The story about your dad not wanting you to go really strikes home with me. Ever since I was in grade school, I wanted to go to Alaska and give it a go. I had an older brother and after graduation, he just upped and disappeared for years. It broke my Mom and Dad's heart not knowing what happened to him, not knowing if he was alive or dead. I saw the hurt he caused them so I put my plans on hold. (as it turned out, he was just bumming around and wouldn't take the time to visit or call my parents....until he didn't have nowhere else to turn) I eventually got married and divorced and still wanted to give Alaska a try. By then I had a dead end factory job I hated. Quit that and went delivery horse trailers across the U.S. and loved it. I just went broke doing it...lol Then remarried and had a family. Now in my mid 50's, I find myself divorced again with a daughter who is about to go to college. I'm on a new off grid property I bought this Spring. It's not in Alaska, but at least I'm loving it! I love your and Dave's story. Thanks for sharing.

I packed up my jeep with $200 in my pocket and I drove 4.5 hours to a place that just felt right when I was here on a visit. All by myself as a woman just 4 days ago. I have been sleeping in my jeep. I do have a job to go to here but it's not the job I want anymore and it has been consistent on my mind! I felt empowered watching you because right now I am living it. It has been very cold the last few days but I'm a survivalist and can overcome anything. There is nothing holding me back anymore except me! I'm making the changes to attract the life I want. Living off grid or camping, however I have to do it. Truly an inspiration! Thank you 🏕🐟🎣❤

The young tomboy in me that loved the adventures I had on my Dad's 25 acres (where his little camp was located) is jumping for joy over this video! Thanks for the inspiration Brooke! The freedom of those 25 acres and love of nature that came from my childhood have never left me. Now (as Paul Harvey would say) I'm ready for the rest of my story! One campfire at a time.😊 💜🎉

Hmm, a year late but so glad I came across this particular video of yours Brooke. Watching your joy for life these past few weeks has motivated me to get my creaky 70 year old bones out of the house and this video seemed like a good place to say something. Starting this spring, before black fly season and through the summer, after black fly season, I am going to be camping in the wilderness of northern ontario and enjoying every minute of it, - me, my dog and a hammock. I'm going back to what I loved doing when I was "younger."

It had been my dream to go to Alaska since 13. At 17 I joined the Army and lived at Ft Richardson Alaska for two years. In those two years I probably saw more of Alaska than most Alaskans do in a life time. I loved it and would definitely go back given the opportunity.

Good afternoon Brooke! I enjoyed your video. I also lived in a tent on first moving to Alaska in 2000'. I came here with my husband and 11 children, pregnant with my 12th. We lived in our "tent village" in the Matanuska Valley for a month, before finding a home large enough to rent. After my midwife delivered our 12th child in the rental home, we started looking for our own "piece of paradise" and found it in Chickaloon along the Matanuska Glacier River. We have taken many trips to the Homer Spit...LOVE it there! Blessings Brooke! :)

I had dreams of moving to Alaska since the late 1960s, and figured I could make a decent living there since I was a commercial salmon fisherman for years. But never actually made it. I'm well past my prime (in my 60s) and not sure I could make it there anymore. But I have lived my wild adventurous side, living in tents, vans, and living off grid in the mountains for decades at a time. So I'm not totally dissatisfied with how things turned out, but do still regret not making it to Alaska when I was young and tough enough to survive it.

I realized my dream of becoming a firefighter almost 10 years ago. I love the wildland stuff as well as the structural aspect as we have over 200 square miles to protect in the rural area of Nebraska where I live which includes some urban areas as well.
I also love the outdoor things like hiking, hunting and fishing which I do as much as possible all year around! I grew up in Denver, but we went to the mountains a lot when we were kids and I was a Boy Scout until I discovered alcohol and other substances. I've been clean over half of my life now and can do whatever I want as long as I put mind and effort into it as you were saying. I'm pretty quirky too and that's probably why I enjoy your channel so much! Thanks again for the entertainment.

Retired dwarf-love camping. Keep going from one rented room to another with too much stuff. Shelter in place is allowing , er, making me get very real with myself. I may be able to get gutted van or just do it all from my Hyudai Accent like I do now. I have been aiming for at least for a long time to spend more time out in the woods rather than rotting in my room. Thank you for your inspiring videos and adventures Brooke and keep them coming!

My oldest brother lives in Chiniak Alaska on the island of Kodiak. The most AMAZING place I've ever visited. Your story is similar to my brother's where he wound up going there at age 18 (now 52), he lived outside in a broken down Bronco and hustled the fish hatcheries along with the fishing boats until he landed a job as a Deckhand. He built his life from the ground up there. Love your channel! LIFE is for the LIVING!!

For me right now, life is one very big adventure that I share with my partner. You have the life that I would have loved way back about 60 years ago, then suddenly everything crashed and things had to be put on the back burner. Adventure is in my blood, but today despite that I get out there as often as I can, RA nearly finished it, but I fought back and enjoy my life as best I can. You are an inspiration for everyone who has the liking for outdoors adventures. Take care...

I would have to say my biggest adventure year was my senior year in high school 1986. That winter I went on a 3 week cycling trip to New Zealand with my church youth group. That opened the door for me to work for one of our church youth summer camps in Texas as a cycle instructor. Before I went there, I visited a friend I had made from my New Zealand trip who lived in Pasadena Ca. She took me on a whirlwind tour of everything around there. Then it was off to Texas for 3 months working in the summer camp. Once camp was over I went on a cycling trip across Colorado with some friends I made while working at the camp. Made it back home just in time to start my freshman year in college. Since that time my husband and I have done a lot of hiking in the National Parks. My dream would be to hike the PCT, CDT and the AT. Would also love to do some extended hiking in Europe.
Great inspirational video! Thanks for sharing your life story! 👍👊🤘

I had a mini homestead in my 20s & I long to have that again. I have a 5 year plan, finishing my degree to make more $$ to spend on about 5 acres with a spring or two on it. I will live in a wall tent in the beginning & I'm excited for it. Thank you for being an inspiration & to get me back to camping & spending time outdoors, I've felt so much better. And I'm having a blast taking with me & teaching my grand daughter. I'm hoping more of my grandkids will start joining us & loving it as much as we do. My goal is to teach them to grow their own food & live off the land.

I backtracked to find this vid. In the 58 yrs I was married, my husband and I sought adventures. In the early years we made a pact to experience life as we lived it. We took our 4 kids along. We camped with a shower curtain for a tarp. When it was possible we camped out for the summer near where he worked building freeways in Id. And Mt. Now I’m a widow and alone but have the memories.

The first thing that came to mind when u said "tell me about your dream". To some this may seem boring but I wanted to a pastor. I started college, and my church took me serious and sent me on preaching engagements. I knew then, while preaching, that this was what God called me to do. Needless to say so many things have knocked me down in the past. I am still spinning, so to speak, from the hardship, but Brooke, it has helped me so much to see a woman like you making it in the woods and in life. It has given me strength. God is not finished with me yet. That I know for sure. Thanks again Brooke for your inspiration. Don't ever change girl, we need you just the way u are. God bless you and hubby, and the kids and of course your sweet doggie and cats. mimi

FLIPPING GO FOR IT!!! Love it! Great uplifting video and thank you for your challenge.
I make knives and am starting doing some blacksmithing also and dream to be fully self employed. My wife and I are in the process of making this a reality. We have worked to get rid of all extraneous and unsecured debt and shoot to pay cash for everything. Right now we have gotten to the place of being able to live on one paycheck and have started banking the other. We are fixing a few things on our current house with a view of selling it and downsizing so we can buy some land so I can have a shop.
Currently all my work is on wheels, I wheel it out of my garage and do my work and wheel it back in at the end of the day or if the weather gets too nasty. My business has grown to the point that this has become unsustainable, being a slave to the whims of Mother Nature, so within the next two months we are hitting reset.
Goal: Be self employed and marketing my blades and hand made items.
    Almost there.

    • @bruceprosser8332
      @bruceprosser8332 7 років тому

Oh, and the business is self funding, all that I have earned from it has gone back into it for tools and equipment. It has been hard but the business is debt free and literally has no overhead lol, as it is all on wheels.

Since I thought about this, I have started kayak fishing this past Spring and watching hiking videos preparing for the coming Summer. This is my plan to hike in the Summer and go kayak fishing. I think I will completely enjoy myself and feel more alive than I have felt since I was in my 20s. Thank you for inspiring me to "get outside and get happy!" Couldn't agree with you more. It is the challenges in life and the adventures along the way that make us who we are. And for so many who just play video games, live off mom & dad and don't have dreams or hopes, sadly one day they will turn around and life is gone for such a time.
Really love your personality and drive. I have always had a drive and enthusiasm for living and as you say, it takes you places to see and do things that would never happen otherwise. And the bonus is to know after you make through that you can survive no matter what.

I think it says a lot about how much your Dad loves you. Hardest thing a parent can do is let their kids go learn their place. Great Video! I have lived it! I left home as a teen to go with a brother and work highline poles and high voltage. For 30 years I travelled around the country doing some thing I loved. A job with great pay and respect. At 50 I decided to change careers. How many 50 year olds do you see climbing? My next career was to become a long haul trucker. I drove 12 years all over and America became a familiar jobsite. I got to drive to places I would never had to opportunity to see. Now I have retired and am busier than ever. Last year I hiked 659 miles. This year I plan to do some serious canoe trips. I want warmer weather to get here fast. I'm 63 and don't have enough hours in the day. The cold is my opportunity to brew delicious home made wines. I have 30 bottles in stock and 10 more gallons brewing. (50 bottles) It's been a good winter! Rock on Brooke!

I guess I pretty well did what I wanted all my life. This may sound funny to alot of folks, I was an Specialized Heavy Hauler (Giant loads) for a lot of years of my career (over 44 years). Then I was a COP for a long time here at home and hauled Cow's also (still drove a truck) Then went back to the Specialized Heavy Hauling again. That was my dream...

I love your spirit! What a great life lesson in three words...Go For It! Like you, I was dissatisfied sitting in a college classroom bored out of my gourd. I dropped out and joined the Air Force, disappointing my parents; however, out of tech school I was assigned to a small base in England...and one of my dreams was to hike Ben Nevis, the lochs and to become a match fisherman. Twenty three years later, I retired having backpacked venues I only read about in magazines involving five continents. Sadly, I never made it to Alaska. I settled for Hawaii :) Great job on determining your own destiny, Brooke.

Great video Brooke. I, wish I was Dave's age and not so tied down. My wife and I did a tourist thing and visited Alaska for 14 days in 2012. Best time of the year as far as I'm concerned, late May. Warm enough but still had snow to add to the beauty of the mountains. That trip included Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, Seward, Denali and Anchorage. We enjoyed it so much we investigated a way to visit Alaska in a way that we could stay longer and not be too costly. We applied for and were hired to work the entire summer season (5 months) of 2013 in the interior, Tok Alaska. It was without a doubt the best adventure I've had. I really enjoyed the small community atmosphere and laid back lifestyle of Tok. Although we were tied to a work schedule, our off time allowed trips to Dawson City, Yukon, Beaver Creek, Yukon, Copper River Basin and of course Fairbanks. I spent all my off time wandering around enjoying the scenery and the wildness of Alaska as best I could. I often go back to enjoy and relive my photos and videos of 2012 and 2013 with fond memories... Enjoy your lifestyle, I wish you and Dave all the best...

Hey thanks much! And Yes- May is a wonderful month in AK! So is September. And March for winter. So glad you got to spend some extended time- and we lived in Delta for 6 years so not so far away from Tok either. We liked to eat at Fast Eddies. :)

    Your my inspiration. Go girl
I have always wanted to live in a log cabin in the woods staring at a mountain

I have lived most of my life this way. In 1974, I hitchhiked to the West Coast, sleeping under bridges along the way. I'm not wealthy, but I have a lot of great memories. I did manage to snag a small pension along the way, and now my feet are kinda itching again. I do not have any one thing which I have dreamed about, which I have not done. I am just trying to figure out what I'd like to do again. I guess that's why I like your vlog and attitude.
