There's more to faithful Christianity than biblical orthodoxy. There are two ways to sin against God - to welcome his word without welcoming his Spirit (Pharisaism - John 5:39) and to welcome God's Spirit without welcoming his word (liberalism - John 14:15). You must raise your standard - you must require this channel and the presenter - and Sydney Anglicans - and the Church of England - to not just welcome God's word but also welcome God's Spirit - or otherwise be guilty of Pharisaism.

I am going to say something that will probably get me strung up on the nearest lamp post: Why is it that when women take over the leadership of churches, the theology goes awry? I have seen this happen in the Methodist church, and now in the Church of England. It is something I have observed in my lifetime - and I am a woman.

    • @jm9673
      @jm9673 Рік тому +9

As a fellow woman I agree with you! It’s a complicated issue and probably depends on the level of leadership. For instance, consider such eminent women in the past as Hildegard of Bingen who successfully headed a convent of women.
People call for Welby’s resignation but without realising that the next Archbishop could be worse! Probably a woman also. God save us all!!

    • @kenbeach5021
      @kenbeach5021 Рік тому +1

I have observed the same thing, and my take on this is this is what 1 Tim 2 is designed to prevent. Eve was deceived when Adam wasn't. I don't think this means Christian women are intrinsically more likely to be deceived than men, I have known women with tremendous amounts of discernment. It becomes a problem when combined with exercising authority. This does seem to make women more vulnerable to spiritual attack and deception, and it often occurs when men have abdicated responsibility as Adam did.
Going by experience when you have Mrs Vicar or Pastor you can be pretty certain that sooner or later you will find false teaching being given. It may or may not occur with men - I certainly don't want to imply men are exempt from this.

For example: I have been given a ministry from God but it is a discernment ministry to help people out of cults and false teaching but I cannot teach the Bible as a whole as I haven't got that spiritual gift as a woman. The Holy Spirit can only work with your spiritual gifts and cannot if you are in rebellion against God (quenching the Spirit)

Thank you for this post; I deeply empathize with you in the agony of your struggle. I was a devoted and contented Anglo-Catholic ("High Church Anglican") here in the United States (Pennsylvania) when the Episcopal Church USA went through this exercise of trashing itself in the 1980s. Our parish, the Cathedral parish of the diocese, had it all: historic building, great endowment, its own school, outstanding music program, an international congregation, and Dean and two Priests. And then they shot themselves in the foot with the homosexual agenda. We were raising three boys at the time and did not want them around that rot, so we fled and cancelled our pledge. Thank goodness, there was an Orthodox church available (this one happened to be a mission parish of the Orthodox Church of America, rather than one of the several Orthodox jurisdictions allegiant to a foreign administration,) and we nested there. We were received with open arms (the congregation was 75% comprised of souls who had fled their former churches because of craziness, e.g. the Roman Catholic Church,) although I was unaware of the close relationship which had existed between the Anglicans and the immigrant Orthodox dispora which had come to America a century and a half ago. I still offer as part of my daily orations many prayers learned from the BCP decades ago. My advice to anyone caught in this soul-destroying malestrom is: Just get out and do not subject your soul and your psyche to the abject, destructive misery which this experience will bring upon you. The inner struggle will destroy you. (The destruction of good people is always the intent of the Evil One, is it not...?) May God have Mercy upon us all as we seek to do what is right and find peace with our Creator. +

Once we've turned our backs upon God's word/Holy Scriptures, haven't we turned our backs as well to God the Father and spat upon the perfect sacrifice of His Son? If we don't believe His word, then spiritually there's nothing left to reject. May the Lord help us all. May you all find a church home that honors the inerrancy of God's divinely-inspired Holy Scriptures.

The Bishop off London seemed to be smug and boastful in comparing her position to support these blessings as if it were the same as Jesus having dinner with the tax collector. But she is wrong. The church has always reached out to the gay community and there is no need to bring in these new same sex blessings. The Church is under attack from the far left to try and change it into a secular religion and so remove the truth of Jesus and his Sovereignty. May God have mercy of the CodE leadership.

There is *No such thing* as a woman bishop! A woman "pastor" even, let alone a woman bishop, is *Unbiblical* , it is *utter Defiance* against God to allow a woman to teach in church or hold a position of authority over a man! for it is a Defiance of 1st Corinthians Chapter 14 and 1st Timothy Chapter 2. That means she is a *Heretic* in holding a Position that is *not permitted for her* , and a Heretic can only teach Heresy!
I know this quote is from a Confessional Reformed Baptist, but, given Archbishop J.C. Ryle deeply admired another Confessional Reformed Baptist of his Day for his Christian verity (I refer to Charles Haddon Spurgeon, the "Prince of Preachers") , it should be ok to use.. "if your church has a woman pastor, then you have neither a pastor nor a church" -John. F. MacArthur.
Same as there is *no such thing* as a "Gay Christian", Christians who *were* Gay (but are now Celibate in Christ) before they were Saved, and that Sin was washed away with all the others, past, present, and future, in the Holy, Divine, Innocent, Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, the God-Man, our Lord and only Saviour, shed upon the Cross to Purchase the Eternal Salvation of His Elect, Yes, most assuredly! , but *No* "Gay Christians", for how can we who are Dead to Sin wear Sin as an Identity? it means they are Unrepentant, and thus *Unsaved* !
Do I Despise them?, No, I have a friend who is "pan" and I have begged with many Tears in Prayer, that, if it be His will, God will draw her to Christ, Deliver her from that Sin, and Save her Eternally with the Precious Blood of Christ Crucified and Risen. That is Love.... but I also know God will only do so, if He elected to draw her to Christ before the Foundation of the world. But I would not welcome her into my church until she had repented, believed the Gospel, and become Eternally Saved, proven by her becoming Separate and Celibate.

I find it hard to understand how anyone can speak of 'staying with integrity' in a Church whose senior leadership have so clearly lost their way. Even if provision is made for orthodox priests/parishes to operate under the oversight of an orthodox bishop, who oversees the bishop? One of the two clearly apostate archbishops. And there is also the issue of the 'optics'. However orthodox a priest may be he and his parish will still be part of a national church that has surrendered to the woke culture. Outsiders will not easily see, let alone understand, the differences. For the sake of the Gospel outreach of the Church there needs to be VERY clear water between truth and heresy.

I am a 72 year old male, and I am old enough to remember when there were specific roles by which men and women lived their lives.
It was called ' normal '
Unfortunately ' normal ' has always been attacked and redefined over many decades.
There once was a time when
' absolutes ' were accepted as normal.
Today, the majority of people do not accept that there are absolutes.
Today, the majority of people decide within themselves what is normal or absolute.
The bible says that a time will come when people decide what is right and what is wrong.
As far as absolutes are concerned, we can look no further that what the 10 commandments say.
    Thy shall not.....is an absolute.
God's word, the bible knows nothing about compromise.
As Genesis says, both male and female did God create. They were created to complete one another.
They were created to fit together for the purpose of pro-creation.
    This is marriage.
Same-sex relationships, by nature cannot fit together. This is not marriage, however you believe.
Worldly humanism has infiltrated the church, and it has seduced believers into thinking that it is biblical.
    It is not.
Those who reject God's word must by nature of the case also reject Christ.
The Gospel of John chapter 1 we read that " the word has become flesh "
To reject the word is to reject Christ.
These so called Christians are not Christians as defined biblically. At best they are " nominal christians "
Christians in name only, putting on an worldly outward display, that confuses unbelievers.
Yes, there is a ' normal ' and there are ' absolutes '. You will find them in true Christians, not nominal christians.
    The former are the sheep.
    The latter are the goats.
    That is an absolute.

In Australia, so many Anglican priests have been unbelievers for so long that this doesn't come as a surprise.
40 years ago in our country town, the Anglican vicar said openly that Jesus wasn't God and the Devil wasn't real.
He was followed by 2 others equally steeped in unbelief , especially with regard to the Bible. Denied the 1st several chapters as myth and one told me that the Muslims had their own " means of grace" and just as good as Christians. He was furious when the other local Ministers refused to have the Imam at their monthly meetings. He a.so told me that when ordained as an Anglo-Catholic he refused to sign the Articles of Faith as he didn't believe most of them. I left and joined the Baptists.

No one is saved by going to a church. This church went off the rails with social justice and rejecting the Bible, including female pastors teaching men, many decades ago. I am female. Also, the church was founded in fornication and adultery so it's back to its origins endorsing sexual sin. Sola scriptura!!

Thank you both. Will we stand upon God's Word ? Will we obey Scripture? Will we critically address contrary teachings and ideologies which have made incursions against plain exegesis and a Biblical hermeneutic and homiletics? Feminist and neo-Marxist influences have gained ground. We need revival to come and for that we must repent and believe the Gospel, knowing to the point of despairing of ourselves, that apart from the Lord we can do nothing.(John 15:5). I agree with Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones that too many novices have been promoted over time, too much dependence upon human efforts, human campaigns and programmes. In 1959 Billy Graham pointed out that the need was for more God fearing ordinary Bible believing Christians. What would happen if we were humbled, and in contrition of soul asked for a high view of Scripture and pulpit ministry to be restored to us and that we treasure our meetings, committees and organisation somewhat less. Who has first place in our affections?

This is a different gospel and Justin Welby and those following his lead will stand before God with this.. The CofE has been steadily eroding the clear, simple (but challenging) gospel for many years now but there has been a noticeable 'acceleration' in recent years away from orthodoxy. Whatever we do, we must put God's holy word 1st and all worldly concerns / considerations second.

Bear in mind that the in context of the letter we also read that if we say we are without sin we decide ourselves and the truth is not in us -;it would seem it's not talking about slips and trips for which we confess to one another and in all humility repent and receive forgiveness.
No. These are people who keep on sinning, or live a life of sin, who continue in sin without remorse or repentance.

My simply point is that to discriminate on the grounds of sexuality is simply a moral failure - the church does this on the basis of dogma and tradition, dogma that is not supported by scripture in my view- arguments from absense, misreadings and imposing meaning. The church is guilty of harm to gay people over centuries and actually should be appologising, not entrenching.

On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[a] made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

Do we need "to be gracious and full of love" in relation to leadership that is going to bless sin.? This is serious. When Jesus had told his disciples that he would be going to the cross, Peter strenuously tried to prevent him to which Jesus replied in no uncertain terms "Get behind me Satan, you are a hindrance to me, your mind is not set on the things of God but on the things of men"
There are a number of instances when Jesus spoke very strongly against sin and of course there was the turning over of the money lenders' tables. Likewise Paul and John the Baptist at times spoke firmly and authoritatively
There is a time to "shake off the dust from your feet" and that would be a physical action which in that day would have been seen as a strong rebuke and an act of disassociation. Being "loving and gracious" can at times not be being loving and gracious.
This does not apply to those who are not as yet believers and don"t as yet believe and profess faith.

When you look back through history that is what it always was... indeed the bride in many cultures had no say in who she would be married to, she would just be married off to a suitable man who could keep her and whose children she was expected to bear. So whether these couples are in love enough to want to live together is outside of that view of marriage. and so it is the Church view. . So don't get all Romantic. remember what Marriage is about!

While agreeing with the views of VR and of this channel, I am concerned about something. Given what is going on around us, with overt anti-Semitism erupting in most Western societies, there are powerful spiritual forces battling. I've been reading about Germany during the 1930s. From what I've read, about two-thirds of society were in Protestant denominations, church-goers, divided into three main 'streams' (denominational groupings). Many viewed church and state as interlinked. While so much was rapidly going wrong, leading to WW2 and the genocide against the Jews, the church leaders seem to have been asleep or entirely distracted by their internal arguments about issues of morality and the role of the state in their churches. They completely missed the big picture, it seems, being obsessed with matters within their own denominations. I don't want to belittle what is going on inside the CofE, but am concerned about this parallel, at such a time as this.

The Sacramental Legacy of Matrimony in the English Church.
Whatever we experience of Christian marriage with all its struggles and blessings, for better or for worse, even with its evolution over millennia, after a lifetime of the contemplation of Holy Scripture, reflecting an history far older than its settled literary Canon, a parson sees absolutely nothing that conforms with the views of 44 mitred apostates present at last week’s General Synod. Pray for the 12 Faithful Bishops at Synod!
It is very curious that fusty looking prelates push such a dated liberalism upon the apostolic Church in England, whereas over 120 young ordinands, about to offer 40 years service to the Church as clergy, refuse to accept the decayed views of the aging apostates. Indeed on-line, it is curious indeed that it is young men and women of the Church that are against the unwise motion to push the Church towards changing the very nature of marriage.
After a lifetime of reading the ante-Nicene and post-Nicene Fathers of the Church with most of the history of the Church from the Ecumenical Councils, up to the living Reformation of the Church, there is nothing whatsoever in the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church’s teaching or customs to which we adhere that points towards the opinion of the Apostates at General Synod - other than that their opinion and votes are simply a secular and vain waywardness.
Faithful Christians have no intention of handing the great Navis of the Church over to this divisive storm-tossed nonsense. We certainly will not do the apostates the satisfaction of throwing our hands up in the air and exiting the side stage of history.
The United teaching and venerable custom of the Church is summed up by the Church of England as follows - in complete conformity with catholic truth and sacramental custom as handed to us from the ages, right through the Reformation and the settled living truth of the Church.
DEARLY beloved, we are gathered together here in the sight of God, and in the face of this Congregation, to join together this man and this woman in holy Matrimony; which is an honourable estate, instituted of God in the time of man's innocency, signifying unto us the mystical union that is betwixt Christ and his Church; which holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with his presence, and first miracle that he wrought, in Cana of Galilee; and is commended of Saint Paul to be honourable among all men: and therefore is not by any to be enterprised, nor taken in hand, unadvisedly, lightly, or wantonly, to satisfy men's carnal lusts and appetites, like brute beasts that have no understanding; but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly, and in the fear of God; duly considering the causes for which Matrimony was ordained.
First, It was ordained for the procreation of children, to be brought up in the fear and nurture of the Lord, and to the praise of his holy Name.
Secondly, It was ordained for a remedy against sin, and to avoid fornication; that such persons as have not the gift of continency might marry, and keep themselves undefiled members of Christ's body.
Thirdly, It was ordained for the mutual society, help, and comfort, that the one ought to have of the other, both in prosperity and adversity. Into which holy estate these two persons present come now to be joined. Therefore if any man can shew any just cause, why they may not lawfully be joined together, let him now speak, or else hereafter for ever hold his peace.
