This particular print literally crumbled in my hands when we attempted to scan it about 6 years ago...leading us to scan the beginning footage in pieces. This is the last complete scan of that print. Thanks for posting Ray!
We are conducting experiments with our film transfer Masters that are proving successful. So we may soon have something that matches a film scan.

Steve, be careful in how you word things. It might be taken that because you touched the film it crumbled in your hands.
Wow, this feels so satisfying to see finally after all these years! This was one of the first Felix shorts I ever saw, and It's so great to finally see it in one piece!
I am sure that all would agree that this rare cartoon deserves to be put through the restoration process. Since the film source no longer exists since Steve Stanchfield attempted to scan it, we are stuck with my analogue film transfer. Even at the time, this print was already showing signs of deterioration in 2006 when it was transferred.
Pardon my asking, but is there a certain stock library you obtained some of these sound effects from? I've been wondering about the source of that one slide whistle descent effect at 6:48 for a long time and I'd love to know as to where you obtained it from - ditto for Felix's goofy laugh at 6:46. As a sound designer myself, it'd be nice to pin down their sources, so if you have any info on their origins, do let me know.
The majority of the sound effects are authentic cartoon sound effects lifted from film prints. I also have my own library of sound effects, and in other cases I recorded certain sounds. The Felix laugh you ask about was done by me. The same for the laughing Russian. I"m flattered that you paid attention to the soundtrack I created with the intention of it sounding "period."
I am sure you can appreciate the fine art of adding sound effects and music to films. It is not a literal plug-in as most everyone else does, but a realization of what sounds enhance the comedy and help the viewer to see certain things. There is an art to adding music to films and it is not done to simply "fill air.". I have been fortunate to be able to select music that fits the action, with the musical beats hitting the visual rhythm as you see here. Thank you for asking. Yes, I certainly do appreciate the "science" of adding comic sound effects and the right music to works of this vintage. Indeed, the right effects can help enhance the comedy of "comedic" works, and I agree with you on that regard wholeheartedly. This is all something I've appreciated and been fascinated by for a very good while, and aspire to do in my own sound work. I'd say

That's neat information to have, so thanks much for sharing.(Incidentally, if it's no trouble at all, and I hope I don't sound like a "leech" in bringing this up but I'd very much appreciate a copy of that Felix laugh if possible. If anything, I'd love to be able to use it for my own projects in the future.)
