- This is my first drive in an all-electric racecar... ever. And it's in the Dakar Rally, of all places!! How rad is that? I had the opportunity to race the final stage of Dakar in the all new Extreme E ODYSSEY 21 racecar, and it was an absolute blast. And yes, I may have ripped a donut or two in it, too. The wildest feeling was how instantly the electric torque came on (all 750lb/ft) and how fun it was to drive because of that.

Legit looks and sound like an rc. The arial shots just look like he’s rippin it in a traxxis but then it cuts to the cockpit and then you remember it’s a real car with real people 😂😂 it’s pretty sweet

It is super squad and wide from many angles, definitely like the traxxas chassis/bodies tend to be

That’s EXACTLY what I had originally thought. Then I realized that it makes an identical sound that the power wheels made from when I was growing up. It makes the EXACT same sound. I’m sure that it might be louder and different in person. But through this video and possible distortion, sounds identical. I even said. If I had to hear them both, without watching anything or “putting a visual aspect to the sound”. That I would 99.9% not be able to tell them apart
(Especially when hearing take off from a dead stop). Which is shown/heard at 8:40.

Love the instant torque of electric. Also the balance and lower CG from having the battery tray under the cab creates a very different driving dynamic.

I dont think the esc makes any noises other than a beep. But this vehicle did have a very similar sound to a brushless rc car.

My dreams of a full scale remote control like vehicle is coming to life! I’ve always wondered what a full scale electric race truck would be like when compared to the amazing acceleration and handling of electric RC trucks.
Awesome camera work all ways enjoy watching Ken when he's behind the wheel of what ever he's running.
This is the kind of EVs I wanna see around and about, RC toy cars with a wheel!. If more machines like this come to life and become available for the public the future will be awesome.

@Viriatus PC electric motors do produce sound, except at a very low volume most of the time.
At times it is noticeable when you push the pedal, most of the time you won't hear a thing. However, they are not silent.

I must say tho what a beautiful scenary that was, Idk why but I've always pictured deserts with just emptyness and endless sand dunnes as far as you could see, but those mountains around and the terrain itself make quite a beutiful place actually.

Car would need to follow the actual rules first. This car is so far above what is allowed in the rally that'd it'd have to be completely rebuilt to even compete. It's like saying "Well how well would an Olympian do in a high school track meet?" The "cars" it was competing against had probably half the suspension travel, 2/3rds the tire size, etc., and nearly half the power.

He's not a competitive driver.... he never succeded in WRC, Dakar or anything related to skills

@@actualperson1971 4x4 are limited on the Dakar to 10inch of travel and 33" tyres. So this car would not fit the rules

I can't be the only one who was confused by the lack of engine noise when he set off and went to check the volume. Ken Block and silence seldom go hand in hand.

He's essentially figuring out the same thing I figured out when I started driving electric forklifts back in the day. Once you've driven a good electric forklift, every other kind of forklift seems lesser. "Instant power" doesn't quite cover it, and a 10 000 lb Raymond Dock-Stocker (stand-up electric) can accelerate and stop faster than a standard lift of the same weight.
i have only driven an electric car and i can see how it could be a real track weapion. Instant torque and linear power, no shifting, managing boost or clutch. I could keep one food on the gas and one on the brake the entire time. (so much fun on gravle more if there was less stability BS) the tho precision someone could develop doing this was really an eye opiner. a small K car for PVC Drifting or 90s car converted to electric would be so cool .

@Matt C That's what most people would tend to think, strangely enough. People often woefully underestimate the power of electricity. I've been wanting to do an e-bike conversion on my MTB for a while now. I use my bike for commuting, so it would make things so much easier, especially on those rougher mornings when it's just hard to wake up.

@@reviewcrewforyou WTF that is crazy. I bet you BEV Rally Stage cars are soon to be built. On the level of crazy like Group B. The way you can dump massive amount for 40 Minutes should cover a couple stages with spare. Talking 1000hp 1000lb/ft in a Fiesta sized chassis.

I felt really uncomfortable when I didn't hear the roar of a motor in the vehicle. But the E car looks really cool.

Since I bought electric skateboard I want an electric car. I don’t care about the roar anymore. I love the whine of electric motors and appreciate their power while being fairly quiet. Instant torque is amazing.

Engines will be in motorsport basically forever. Racing is already hard to watch for most people , take the sound away and viewers drop which means not worth it for sponsors and then it all circles the drain from there. At least for Pro racing. So... you'll see self-driving electric commuters and utility vehicles and a couple electric racing series and electric speed records across the board for sure , but the main events will be multi-class, open engine, analog , zero aids , stick shift , PTWR governed , bad ass raw road course racing and drifting of course.
