May your Soul be rejoicing in Olam Habah, my dear brother and yedid. And when it’s time to come back, may you rejoice in it even more. Gratitude for your teachings and pure heart. Blesses,

If you're vegetarian, it is even easier to keep kosher. I don't have to worry about basar v'chalav.

Seems like a good honest viewpoint, and he made gracious remarks regarding Chabad. The only thing I would like to suggest, though, is that your pure Jewish soul will not be content with a "balance" between Yiddishkiet and secular life, until it transforms and elevates your secular life so that it, too, serves the perfect will of HaShem. The only "balance" is "Echad". Be well!

One more thing....if I understand correctly the Kocher dietary laws were given mainly for health reasons and not necessarily out of any particular religious significance concerning the ingredients (if that makes any sense I'm finding it difficult to convey meaning here). Is this the case? Purely for health concerns?

    • @my2cents49
      @my2cents49 8 років тому +3

No, Torah doesnt give health reasons for kosher eating. Many of the forbidden foods are unhealthy (more than people may care to know when it comes to pork and shellfish), but the meaning goes way beyond that. Actually some kosher foods are rather unhealthy (think things covered in chocolate!).. Some good reading would aish.com, maybe jewfaq.com would have something, or chabad's website. The laws of Kashrut work as an amazing spiritual teacher; the physical benefits are only secondary.

Non-Jew here but let me first say I have the utmost respect for the Jewish people, especially the very devoted such as this man.
I have studied Judaism to an extent as a non-Jew who is interested in world religions in general. This might seem like a silly question but I am just curious about the finer details of the lifestyle, symbols etc.
What is the significance of the curled hair at the sideburn area that we see worn by orthodox and Chassidim and is there a name for it?
    Thx!

The answer to your question is pe'os (pronounced "pay us", but also called "pay-ot" rhyming with day-coat), but not all Chassidic groups allow pe'ot to grow (such as Chabad). It is a beautiful mitzvah, but regrettably it is treated more like an identification mark between various orthodox groups, which often divides rather than unites us.

  • @wafelsen

I'm not sure that the differences between modern orthodoxy & chassidism are really as you describe. While chalav yisrael, pas yisrael & daily mikveh for men may be more prominent in the chassidic world, I doubt that anywhere near all hassidim do these things.
I see 3 major differences: 1) Secular studies 2) Religious Zionism (though diff hassidic groups view this diff) 3) Women's issues. Chabad is less diff from MO on these than most Hassidim.

Chassidim are very similar in many ways to the Hutterites. The main differences between the two, is that Hutterites are Christian, seek isolated areas, and are self sustaining by mainly farming.
Chassdim are Jews who chose to live in urban centers, and are Schnorers.
The similarities is that both could be classified as lunatics. Each of them denies individuality and humanity. By suppressing these two and other human attributes,
They live on the edge of mental illness and in fact some crack.
It is sad to see how religions subjugates people, (in extreme cases), and use that power
to divide one nation from another and in order to feed the maniacal psyche of some leaders' thirst for power. This is a dark side of humanity.

Those were made to separate the Nation from the surrounding cultures, i.e. give them an etnic galore. Also. they are a charming way to keep some mystical significance with a game of words. It is written that in the mesianic hera, all food will be all right, i.e. pigs will be redeemed ;) This is why some liberal groups were eager to get into the eatin shrimp and pork, that happened in the early Nazi Germany... Some Rabbis took it as a way for Hashem to say, hey dont taake me casually...

One interesting and somewhat horrifying thing about Hasidism is that it initially wasn't a form of Orthodoxy at all, but emphasized spirituality and emotion. It was only after the war that they went to the opposite extreme because so many Hasidic thinkers publicly stated that the Holocaust was G-d's punishment for drifting away from proper frum lifestyles, as defined by the Torah, Talmud, and very orthodox rabinical figures. So it is sort of based on fear and a rather superstitious notion that everything bad that has ever happened to Jewry was the result of G-d punishing bad conduct. That, along with the emphasis on numerology, Kaballah, etc., was enough to change my mind about converting to Orthodox Judaism. On the other hand, it was hard for me to think of Reform Jews as Jews at all. So, by the time I was in the sixth grade, I decided to convert to atheism instead.

Messianic Jews have found the truth the light and way. Blessed be God forever. Satan keeps Jews from the the truth. Read the old and New Testament Isaiah 53. Read. Jesus is Jewish so ate the apostles. St. Paul of Damascus was blinded for speaking bad about Jesus. God forgave and restored his sight. In the name of the father the son and the holy spirit. hallelujah
