I started growing Tromboncino squash last Spring. I live in Alabama and this was a game changer for me. They are resistant to vine borer and squash bugs. They can be harvested green and cooked like a zucchini. They can be allowed to age on the vine and be harvested like a butternut. I have been eating them all Winter. The shape attracts people's attention; they are odd-looking. They can get huge and still be green. The vine is truly beautiful. Yep, I am in love, ha ha!
Just a suggestion, can you add a list of the ones you are growing at the end? Even a hand written list so we can do a screenshot of what you are growing.
So I grow a Blue Berry cherry tomato and that is THE MOST durable, high production plant I've ever grown. It has beautiful blue/purple shoulders where the sun hits as it ripens and has more of that deep smoky flavor. But I left a handful of these in a tray bc they were tiny and I planted more than I needed, and I kid you not they lived without any care at all for like 2 months! And when a racoon tore out some of my plants I saw these still in the trays in the weeds growing. Threw them in the ground, and they still out produced every other tomato plant in the garden!
Just wanted to say your hair looked amazing today trying to decide if you got a haircut even my hubby was like hey Jill’s hair looks good lol video was awesome as well love and prayers from Canada as I so desperately wish for spring lol
Mmmm, Shishito❤❤ I grow 6 plants every year. I put them in everything. Thin skinned and delicious. I also freeze them whole and loose packed in gallon bags to enjoy all winter. My favorite dish is tapas style- Blister whole shishitos in cast iron and serve with a soy sauce/ sesame oil dipping sauce
I'm growing Brad's Atomic for the first time this year! Also, I ordered shishito peppers today. This year is my first year planting a large (to me) garden. I've only grown in containers and a plant here and there in a flower bed. This is also my first year starting from seeds. I've got a lot to learn and am looking forward to this garden season. I love your videos. Very educational.
I have grown shishitos for the last two years. My husband loves them blistered and pickled. We had Brad’s crazy cherries last year, and they were great. We are trying Brad’s atomic cherries this year. I can’t wait!!
@@mlee7037 I can't wait to get my seeds started. I've already started some seeds knowing that it's early. I've heard of the blistering, not the pickling. Do you blister them and then pickle them or just pickle them. I know it may sound like a dumb question but like I said, I'm new to all of this.
Everyone seems to love the fruity sweet tomatoes and I always feel like an oddball seeking out the acidic ones haha! I love a good acidic or smokey tomatoes heavy on the 'umami' flavour topped with salt fresh out of the garden - perhaps this is why I don't like carrots or sweet potatoes either.. lol
I LOVE Shishito peppers! My 11 yo also loves them. We love to blister them in some olive oil and add some garlic seasoning and sea salt over some steamed rice!
Oh my, Katirina!! I grow them in my high tunnel and in the raised bed- field garden. Prolific in both spaces!! Don't overlook Katrina, if you only have a field-type garden. Carmens.....a love!! When beautifully red, I give them a good smoking, dry them, and make the most incredible smoked paprika!!! It's my grand daughter's absolute favorite. She will devour a whole one as a garden snack! Root veggies are a win! I grow many types which provide me with year-round produce. I have not purchase many root veggies for decades, as my garden provides for my family. Here in the North East, Waltham butternut is the jackpot winter squash. A bumper crop in 2022!! I even began Freeze Drying dozens of them.
Hey y'all, I love to hear what and why folks grow what they do and their impressions of the results. I love the Shishito peppers, however there is a Spanish cousin Padrón pepper, grown and cook the same way. The Padrón is a staple in Spanish meals the same as the Shishito this year I am growing both side by side! I am excited by the Badger Flame Beet maybe this or next year. The Honeynut butternut squash is wonderful as are all the variations of the butternut squash there is a orange butternut squash very nice also. I have never grown the tromboncino but I know both you and Ashley seem to love them so I always keep them in the back of my mind. I have started 21 pepper varieties and next week 15 tomato varieties some old some new.
I started the Carmen pepper for the first time, also butter nut and my all time favorite Shishito peppers. I will be trying some of your tomato favorite's next year.
I want to find sweet gerkin cucumber seeds I like sweet gerkin pickles 💛 growing San marzano tomatoes great for salsa and tomato sauce 👍 Have 10 planted👍
This list was so amazing, thank you! I can’t wait to grow honeynut this year. My favorite pepper is jimmy nardello though- super sweet and prolific. I would also add some eggplants - ping tung is my favorite. Give them a try and let me know what you think!
I also can't stand beets but grow them for my husband. I just added my email to the wait-list for those seeds for next year and can't wait to grow them in 2024!
Not a tomato fan either. Only like ones I've grown. Tried quite a few varieties. Favs are Peach tomato (it's even got fuzz like a peach) Parks Whopper and black cherry. Roma. Orange rainbow was interesting. Tromboncinos are fun but I haven't figured out how to use them. Mine haven't been all that tasty.
I got some shishito peppers this year, and a different cucumber that doesn’t need pollinated also but I don’t remember what kind lol. I’m so excited though!!! I just got my order today from BC and I have all kinds of peppers to start tonight!!
Shishito peppers are the 💣!!! I'd actually like to get anyone's input on really great tomatoes for production but field grown. It gets hot and muggy all summer here so I always trim the bottom foliage away for air. But this year I am wanting to really pump out hundreds of tomatoes. Can anyone help me out?
I always grow carmen peppers - very productive. I tried shishito last year and blistered them in my cast iron pan but the skin was like eating celaphane, so what am doing wrong? They did have amazing flavor.
How do you successfully battle vine borers? I'm not far from you, more southwest in Hot Springs, brandnew to thenproperty last spring, and they just decimated everything. It was awful. I love to grow huge varieties of pumpkins every year as well as soooo many winter squashes, but literally nothing survived. Any thoughts, suggestions, or previous videos you've made that might offer some ideas?
Hey Jill I'm going to grow the grandmarshall for thr first time this year. I'm hoping for high yield. What's your opinion on the grandmarshall? Also did you prune this plant.
Did you and Tromboncino break up? I tried it first time last summer and it was wonderful! I didn't know it could keep growing and the skin would toughen to store like a butternut but will try that this summer. It was the only squash that made it through a massive invasion of squash bugs. The only other squash I got to harvest was a striped Cushaw that grew into a giant, tasted wonderful and I was so proud of that giant, tender, delicious squash - the deer and bugs got everything else. I'm hoping the weather will be a bit kinder than last year. Love that you told how to use the veg as that is so helpful - thanks.
Hey Jill, You do know that Tomatoes aren't vegetables they are fruit. So you are one short for your top ten vegetables to grow for this year. All those varieties sound really good. I love your hair that way.
Please.. for the love of god... slow the talking down.. i like your videos but it you need to start talking slower.. it's UA-cam, NOT a speed talking contest.. again, i like your vids but yer always talking too fast.. take a breath.. show some things while you take a breath...

I’m in Southern California and I love to grow golden beet varieties for roasting.
I'm growing shishito peppers for the first time this year!
We need a cookbook! ❤️❤️💐
Maybe one day!

@@galethomas9383 Pickle them fresh.
@@mlee7037 thank you! I'll give it a try.
Dr Lychees is my favorite tomato also German Pink, you might want to try sun gold tomatoes they are great taste like candy:)
Taking notes, learning as I go. I love my beets. I am planting herbs on my patio. However, my go to crops are tomatoes, Cucumbers, Onions and Peppers.
Katrina is going to be worth a try
Huge cucumber fan, tough in our area
Silver slicer is another new one I plan to try
Good Sunday morning Janie. The garden's looking beautiful., Just like you, I can't wait for spring to start planting. 🌼🌹🌻
I'm growing Dr. Wyche again this year.
I grew Mashed Potato squash last summer in zone 3b. They were delish and stored really well. They are definitely on the list for this summer
I personally haven’t grown the Katrina but I saw another YT that does it outside with great success. I think I’m gonna try it
Gotta try pickled beets! I can tolerate roasted golden and cannot stand red BUT! …pickled red is amazing!

Yum 😋
Bacterial wilt gets my cucumbers every year, and squash vine borer my squash. I hate being limited. 😣
When is the last time you had your soil tested?
Excellent selection Jill 🥰
Thank you! 🤗
Jacqueline and I planted our seeds last week and they are sprouting ~ John

I’m trying the new Mochi Tomato from Jonny’s this year. I’m not the biggest fresh tomato lover. But love growing them. I do love salsa and sauces.
Looking forward in growing badger flame beets, and maybe the Katrina cucumber
I've also had great success with the Napoli carrots. And I'm definitely going to have to try to get my hands on some of those Badger Flame beets!

Hello 👋
Since tomatoes and peppers are both nightshades, can you grow peppers in the same double leader trellis?
How do you successfully battle vine borers? I'm not far from you, more southwest in Hot Springs, brandnew to thenproperty last spring, and they just decimated everything. It was awful. The Badger Flame beets have been out of stock for the past year.
Not me ordering those beets right this second 😅
🤣 you won't be disappointed

Same for squash, cucumbers, beans, peppers, eggplant and many others. We just use them as vegetables.
Botanically yes. Culinarily, no. Believe it or not the Supreme Court has actually ruled on this. (it affected tax rates)
