Every year, our church holds a New Year Service from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM, where we sing hymns at midnight.

Jimmy Carter said that he believed gay marriages were pleasing to Christ . “I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage, but that’s just my own personal belief. I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else.” Not a fan.

I lived through the Carter years, he was a terrible president. But, leave it up to academics, (even conservative ones) to talk about what a good guy he was. I'll take Trump in a limousine and a hot wife, over a walking Carter who made a mess of this country with his failed liberal policies.

I totally agree with concerning the first 3 years. The last year included a wake up call when Afghanistan was invaded. His Olympic boycott hurt the soviets economicly and appt of Volcker helped lower inflation. I voted for his reelection in 80 and am so glad the rest of America knew better.

I still can't believe the work you did in the Virginia First 1607 Project. It is sooo professional ....and I don't mean it the way this sounds it just done so well. One would not think this to come from a youngish man. Thank you Jon for all the many many hours you put into it. It will be used by many for many decades, maybe centuries. dp

John, we went to Japanese churches in Japan for 21 years. The body of Christ tends to always hold New Year’s services as they want to give the first day of the new year to the Lord. Loved this.

Carter was horrible, I lived through the disaster. He was always "buddy buddy with terrorists." His main issue was he needed to control everything. He did see regulation coming, but still pushed state control. Saw some good things the Carter Center did in Africa. And building houses was nice. He never got the reality of economics so had no real foundation to work from, his default being state control hince the disaster of the Carter years

Unless you lived through the late 60s and 70s you can not appreciate how wicked things were in America particularly in the big cities. 1969 was the worst year in our plunge into total hedonism, sexual license and drugs and crime.

We Catholics all go to church on New Year's Day. It's an old tradition that comes from it being the octave day (one week after) Christmas- which is important because Jesus was circumcised on the 8th day. It was the first blood He shed and first time He fulfilled part of the Old Covenant.

    • @keeperofthedomus7654
      @keeperofthedomus7654 2 дні тому +1

I say all, because it's a Holy Day (ie to be treated like a Sunday) but I realize in practice many Catholics probably skip. But I'm telling you, our church will probably be packed, so in my experience, it is pretty well observed.

In North carolina, the gas lines were during Nixon and Ford. It was like 73 and 74. If a license plate ended in an odd number, the driver got gas on certain days, and even number other days. I didn't recall that going as far as Carter.

One thing I, as a Catholic, and you all can agree on, is that some of Fr Calvin's theology is probably wrong. 😂
But I support him doing his online thing. God can use him and hopefully he will be led to the truth in the end!
Young men seem to like a respond to him. And the more young men that feel faith is normal and something within their reach, the better!

@ granted you do - however your dismissive glibness (I know some of you won’t like this but oh well) with which approached this topic was offensive. The Carter years were very difficult for this nation and for Christians which is why Carter was overwhelmingly voted out of office after one term with the help of Christians. I’m concerned about this revisionist approach to his legacy and I’m saddened that you took the bait. You should have just left it alone as you came across as advocating for a moderated view of his presidency even if you didn’t intend that. I’ve been listening to you for along time and have your books too - just deeply disappointed with this episode.

    To preface:
I HAVE NEVER NOR WILL EVER VOTE DEMOCRAT FOR PRESIDENT.
Carter was a decent, thoughtful man who tried his best during any extremely difficult time in American history. He was not a good leader, and was in way over his head. He had no business being in the Oval Office, but to say he is one of the worst presidents is ridiculous. I’d dare say he doesn’t even crack the bottom 10.

I guess I've always believed that a long life was a sign of God's approval for living a life that honors Him? If this is the case, than perhaps God knew something about Jimmy Carter that the rest of us ignored or never thought of. That you don't have to necessarily subscribe to Conservative politics to live a life pure and holy to God? But now that he is gone, guess who now has the distinction of being the oldest living president? Joe Biden!

When I think of the Carter era, I think of bad music (especially disco), bad fashions, and bad television. None of these were Jimmy Carter's fault, and they were all present before he took office as President, but it's hard not to associate his time as President with these things.

    • @orbyfan

For what it's worth, Jimmy Carter was the only President during the more than 50 years spanning Kennedy through Obama whose presidency didn't include at least one U.S. manned space flight, so he didn't even have a photo opportunity welcoming home the astronauts.
