Jimmy Carter said that he believed gay marriages were pleasing to Christ . “I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage, but that’s just my own personal belief. I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else.” Not a fan.
Can’t wait to hear you speak, & hopefully sing, at the April 3-5th Right Response Ministry’s Defeating Trashworld Conference in Temple Texas. Spectacular lineup of speakers.
I lived through the Carter years, he was a terrible president. But, leave it up to academics, (even conservative ones) to talk about what a good guy he was. I'll take Trump in a limousine and a hot wife, over a walking Carter who made a mess of this country with his failed liberal policies.
I totally agree with concerning the first 3 years. The last year included a wake up call when Afghanistan was invaded. His Olympic boycott hurt the soviets economicly and appt of Volcker helped lower inflation. I voted for his reelection in 80 and am so glad the rest of America knew better.
I still can't believe the work you did in the Virginia First 1607 Project. It is sooo professional ....and I don't mean it the way this sounds it just done so well. One would not think this to come from a youngish man. Thank you Jon for all the many many hours you put into it. It will be used by many for many decades, maybe centuries. dp
With so many launches of UA-cam channels and other indie media over the past several years, it's nice to see people appreciate how much work goes into filmmaking.
John, we went to Japanese churches in Japan for 21 years. The body of Christ tends to always hold New Year’s services as they want to give the first day of the new year to the Lord. Loved this.
The SBC affiliated church I grew up in did a NYE service, as did the IFB church I attended for a number of years. At the IFB church there was a fellowship meal afterwards (food at midnight!). Those were memorable services.
Carter was horrible, I lived through the disaster. He was always "buddy buddy with terrorists." His main issue was he needed to control everything. He did see regulation coming, but still pushed state control. Saw some good things the Carter Center did in Africa. And building houses was nice. He never got the reality of economics so had no real foundation to work from, his default being state control hince the disaster of the Carter years
Unless you lived through the late 60s and 70s you can not appreciate how wicked things were in America particularly in the big cities. 1969 was the worst year in our plunge into total hedonism, sexual license and drugs and crime.
The Reformed Episcopal Church attend has a Holy Communion service on January 1, The Circumcision of Christ. December 26-28, services of Holy Communion were held, Feast of St Stephen, Feast of St John Apostle and Evangelist, Feast of The Holy Innocents. On January 6 there is Holy Communion service for Feast of the Epiphany.
We Catholics all go to church on New Year's Day. It's an old tradition that comes from it being the octave day (one week after) Christmas- which is important because Jesus was circumcised on the 8th day. It was the first blood He shed and first time He fulfilled part of the Old Covenant.
I say all, because it's a Holy Day (ie to be treated like a Sunday) but I realize in practice many Catholics probably skip. But I'm telling you, our church will probably be packed, so in my experience, it is pretty well observed.
I can't understand not going to church on Christmas- that's literally what Christmas is for! The gifts and family time are fun extras to celebrate the birth of Our Lord.
Love to hear about testimonials at the New Years Service. I grew up in a church where testimonies were a regular thing and as a young growing Christian teen i gained so much from hearing them. Today a lost art. I dont know of any church open to testimonies. Sad
In North carolina, the gas lines were during Nixon and Ford. It was like 73 and 74. If a license plate ended in an odd number, the driver got gas on certain days, and even number other days. I didn't recall that going as far as Carter.
Under Jimmy Carter’s interest rates were up over 20% manufacturing was down plants for closing and the world was not afraid of United States because they perceived Carter is a very weak president. The only president worse than him is Joe Biden.
You need to try vinegar on steamed broccoli. That was the only way mom could get me to eat broccoli when I was a little kid. It’s da bomb. Malt vinegar works best.
I noticed that James W has absolutely no grace for Joel Webbon in relation to Calvin Robinson. It is a shame that he can't let the Tobias/Webbon issue die.
Our sebior pastor invites the congregation to his home on NYE, where we pray, sing hymns and open the book. Although this year it's taking place in the church.
The Iranian hostage crisis was horrific. Carter was not in his element. The South turned totally Republican after him. I liked him after he left the presidency. But his interference in foreign affairs was not helpful.
One thing I, as a Catholic, and you all can agree on, is that some of Fr Calvin's theology is probably wrong. 😂 But I support him doing his online thing. God can use him and hopefully he will be led to the truth in the end! Young men seem to like a respond to him. And the more young men that feel faith is normal and something within their reach, the better!
As a confessional Lutheran, I wanted to learn how to play A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, I was surprised at how difficult it was and how many chord changes there were
You should have stayed away from the Carter issue - you didn’t live it. He was horrid, a liberal, pro abortion - mystified as to why you would do this. Very disappointed.
@ granted you do - however your dismissive glibness (I know some of you won’t like this but oh well) with which approached this topic was offensive. The Carter years were very difficult for this nation and for Christians which is why Carter was overwhelmingly voted out of office after one term with the help of Christians. I’m concerned about this revisionist approach to his legacy and I’m saddened that you took the bait. You should have just left it alone as you came across as advocating for a moderated view of his presidency even if you didn’t intend that. I’ve been listening to you for along time and have your books too - just deeply disappointed with this episode.
Jimmy Carter was a complete Disaster! A pious poop artist who coundnt make up his mind for the benifit of us citizens . He made more bad decisions then anyone since ive been alive. Im 77.
To preface: I HAVE NEVER NOR WILL EVER VOTE DEMOCRAT FOR PRESIDENT. Carter was a decent, thoughtful man who tried his best during any extremely difficult time in American history. He was not a good leader, and was in way over his head. He had no business being in the Oval Office, but to say he is one of the worst presidents is ridiculous. I’d dare say he doesn’t even crack the bottom 10.
I guess I've always believed that a long life was a sign of God's approval for living a life that honors Him? If this is the case, than perhaps God knew something about Jimmy Carter that the rest of us ignored or never thought of. That you don't have to necessarily subscribe to Conservative politics to live a life pure and holy to God? But now that he is gone, guess who now has the distinction of being the oldest living president? Joe Biden!
l was 12 in Canada during the Carter years, and though l was young, it seemed to me that Carter at least cared about the country, and wasn't trying to ravage it left and right. He could at least THINK, and TALK. He also never enriched himself so boldly, and with such hubris. He was a LOT better than Biden, ....as Trump says. Thank you John! Blessings to you, and family. :)
PLEASE...CALL ME WHATEVER....BUT....YOU HAVE A .CHILD. NOT A KID!!!!! MY GOATS WOULD ABOLUTELY BE ...INSULTED!!!! PRAYING....:) YOU ARE APPRECIATED......TRULY.....GRANDMA GOWER......
Jon i have listened to you for a long time and do not believe that you are bought off😂. What i hear you saying about the conference is that it's not a Christian conference. I think that it must be phrased that way or it would be misleading!
Well January 1 is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God for Catholics which will probably offend Nestorian Protestants who don't acknowledge Mary as the Holy Theotokos Mother of God ⛪ 0:30
When I think of the Carter era, I think of bad music (especially disco), bad fashions, and bad television. None of these were Jimmy Carter's fault, and they were all present before he took office as President, but it's hard not to associate his time as President with these things.
For what it's worth, Jimmy Carter was the only President during the more than 50 years spanning Kennedy through Obama whose presidency didn't include at least one U.S. manned space flight, so he didn't even have a photo opportunity welcoming home the astronauts.
Every year, our church holds a New Year Service from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM, where we sing hymns at midnight.

Carter still holds the record high score on the Misery Index though so it’s not like he didn’t accomplish anything.
@@dbaldwin237 - Exactly - he's got that going for him, which is nice...

I was a young adult during the Carter years and he was a trainwreck as a president.
Yes Carter was a total disaster of a president. There was not one thing good about the man.

I love your book discussions!
All the talk about the burgers in the beginning was making my mouth water. Sounds so delish
Never heard of New Year worship services. I like the idea though!
Our church
is doing a 7 PM prayer and worship service New Year’s Eve.
Oregon USA

I bought Lori’s Lunchbox dressing! ❤️❤️❤️ it!!!! Was a hit at a party I had.

Ours doesn't do a NYE service but I'd love that!
You've got me intrigued about this ranch...I mean really how good could it be?
$140 for 20 packs good 😱
Would love to try it but I’m in Canada 😢
Interesting info about Carter's presidency.

David Reece is a pastor of Puritan Reformed church in Phoenix
Our church didn't have services on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and Sunday, yesterday....we were told staff needed a break!
Wowzers, time to find a new church?

Wasn’t JI Packer an anglican???
French fries dipped in ranch, are the best!
We used to prior to covid. The kind where we would ring in the new year at church.
The Iranian hostage crisis was horrific. Carter was not in his element. The South turned totally Republican after him. I liked him after he left the presidency. But his interference in foreign affairs was not helpful.
His foreign policy was the worst thing about him probably.

Didn’t Voddie Baucham speak at a “Christian” men’s conference with Glenn Back? How come no one bats an eye at that?
Depends on the purpose
You have a very valid point you should not have spoke with Glen back
That is he speaking of body. Buchmann should not have spoken at the Glen Blake conference.
Calvin is going to be at the conference to fill us in on how it is that England is no longer a Christian nation.
Or a homemade fish sticks!!!!! Thank you Lori....
I agree that some of Carter’s policies led to Reagan’s prosperity. On the other hand…
You should have stayed away from the Carter issue - you didn’t live it. He was horrid, a liberal, pro abortion - mystified as to why you would do this. Very disappointed.
@@alank.2245 I talk about a lot of issues I didn’t live through. Both the gentlemen I read articles from did.
