- Who doesn't love looking at weird, totally nonfunctional vehicle designs? I'm known for doing this with fictional tanks, but for this video I figured I'd take a look at actual tank prototypes / designs that are pretty strange. In this video I'll take a look at the Object 760, UDES XX20, HD-40T (Wombat), Teledyne Continental Direct Fire Support Vehicle (DFSV), and Object 287.

Has Spookton ever tried Armored Warfare? Some of the tanks he mentioned are in there. Granted it's far more arcadey than something like WT.
Armored Warfare is basically World of Tanks but modern.

@@jmsdfdamacloid__9306 not sure what time you play but i wait max 5-6 mins to find a match in the morning hours, on peak times between 2-10 pm you wait 30s. Thats on Central European time zone though.

yes wheeled vehicles are more efficient
walkers have to move their legs up and down and this is waste of energy and they are too long. just a perfect target for x wings
@@thekingtiger8193 Walkers, if done *right* could have advantages over tanks, but it would require you to be invading something insanely rocky or rough, to the point that tanks can't even cross it.
@@thekingtiger8193 AT-ATs are cannonically invulnerable to rebel weapons except for their very top armour, which requires a dive attack that makes the ship vulnerable to TIEs and AA.
hence why in episode V they take a direct hit from a heavy laser cannon to the leg joint and it does absolutely nothing.

I think the show was called "Extreme Machines", but I definitely saw it on a show on the old Discovery Channel, described as a stealth tank.

Object 760 was not a hover tank, it was a counter intelligence tactic employed the soviets against foreign spies.
It was actually made due to the Soviets lacking a good graphics card.

My thoughts Exactly. It's beyond OP. He literally lost his gun, and drove past 2 heavy tanks, both of which shot him, and lasted for a while.
@@epion660 try fighting the damn thing in T32E1s you can't pen the damn hull even from the sides and APCR barely goes through the side of the turrets even M103s struggles against it with its 380mm HEATFS rounds except the T95E1s and Pattons with Darts

The XX-20 looks almost like the Halo Scorpion. The HH-40T looks just like it came from a ps1-era game

Wombats can run faster than a fair amount of humans, are partially bulletproof to some calibres due to extremely dense bone, and are well known for crushing dingos heads.
In short, they may look adorable, but they can definitely intimidating creatures...
They cvan run up to 40kmh and their back is hard as rock since they close their hdeout with it.

I know you've never seen a wombat face-to-face, but they're a lot more menacing than meets the eye. You can hit them at 90kph (almost 60mph) and they'll leave a wombat print in the radiator and walk away like nothing happened. They also have claws and can weigh almost 40kg

technically, some SPGs can be considered as such.
but otherwise, i don't think so. having two guns inside of the turret add only one pro (twice the firing rate ) but lots of cons, so, only usefull for units where volume of fire is important enough to justify a fat (and then, poorly armored) turret.

You should take a look at the designs of the Battletanx series. I'm interested to hear your thoughts about a tank that can literally flip over and still function fine or that one tank that has a minigun welded into the hull.
i have Object 287 in Armored warfare and holy fucking shit there's no way that 250mm of textolyte laminate in the UFP and LFP of the hull can stop a fucking 120mm smoothbore round from an M1A1 abrams

DFSV? I only know that thing as the Expeditionary Tank. And it lost partially cuz its autoloader was unreliable. MGS has a new one. As for can be air droppable, more like, was made to be air droppable.
Wombats are intimidating, they are 35KG of pure muscle and sheer determination. These fuckers will body check you if you corner them, and they love to lure predators into their dens lie flat and then crush the predator to death against the roof, many dogs are killed this way.
There is no way the A-8 Tiger from Battlefield 2142 is actually based on the HD-40T, but they just look so similar!
Inb4 Ameriboos ask Gaijin for all these prototypes meanwhile at the same time saying Soviet prototypes are too OP and need removed from game because "they have no place" in it.

Fun Fact: The Obj. 760 stems from various similar hovertanks before it, dating to the 1930s, designed by Vladimir Israilevich Levkov.
Fun Fact 2: The HT-95 "Levkov" from Battlefield 4: Final Stand was named after said designer (and was essentially just a Strv-103 with jets on the bottom).
the DSFV is so fucking annoying when in vehicles under Tier 6 in AW
Ya know it's sad, when you were talking about the DFSV all around it sounded like an amazing vehicle...and then when I heard "Lost to what would eventually become the M8 AGS" I went "Wait, what the fuck is that? I've never heard of it either.". One google search later reveals the M8 AGS project got canceled in 1997. It baffles me that they would have took something as big, bulky and awkward looking as that over something like the DFSV with less crew and by the looks of it a lower profile with more ability to protect the crew and dish out more fire....especially if the gun wound up being used on the striker sense that seems like it would have been the most problematic part to an overall ideal and non-problematic vehicle. I guess that's just how the military industrial complex goes isn't it?.....I donno, maybe I'm mistaken, been out of it all damn day.

Well, that was annoying.... Padded out with distracting game-play. Narration over still photographs would've been much better that this mess. The first tank 'Object 260' was on screen for less than 30 seconds during your entire monologue about it. Perhaps there aren't many photos of it, but I'd like a longer look at the ones that do exist, instead of watching you play 'pew-pew'...
You should name those "weird" prototype tanks underrated prototypes because almost no one knows about it.
And just how to fix a Maus problem?
1. Simple, it's weight should be lighter than 70 tons, beyond 70 tons or 70 tons is too much for a tank.
2. It's armor should be composite armor with a little thin layer of steel. It can increase the thickness of armor while reducing the weight of the tank.
3. It shouldn't need a complex suspension to be that good. Panthers and Tigers are a failure because of the complex mechanical issues of the suspension made them unreliable.
4. The template of the tank would be a armored artillery piece with reliable modules.
5. There's no need a bigger, complex tank like tigers or Panthers. There's a bunch of reliable options to defeat tanks like T-34 and Shermans, for example mass producing more artillery guns or trucks with guns would help to solve the issue. Although it cannot help that these tanks can immediately kill trucks with impunity.

My father lived in the twin where they would test the UDES XX and he has memory’s of watching it drive on the roads, he’d also see a few SAAB 32 Lansen fly over his house. And that is the only reason I know it existed and what it was gonna be used as. In my opinion it’s a really neat idea but it has its problems. Oh and I just want to say for fun that one of the problems it had was it could not reload the 120 mm gun if it wasn’t pointing straight forward, and they never found a way to fix this. Great video! And keep up the amazing work!!

A cool tank I thought was cool was the object 477 cause it has a huge 152mm gun and the crazy part is that it has a auto loader and it can penetrate 420mm of armor. Also it goes 75km/h With ceramic armor, but it was canceled when the Soviet Union was disbanded.
Hey when you're doing the next everything wrong with ______ vehicles design could you look at Foxhole's tanks and AFVs? Alot of pseudo ww2/ww1 tanks that have a very interesting look and function
Not sure if you’ll ever meet one since most of the population here down under probably won’t meet a wild one in their lifetime but Wombats are highly aggressive and know how to intimidate since that’s their primary defence strategy. They’re known for charging without notice and have enough mass to crit (see: break) your ankles if you’re not prepared. They love to scare tourists who think they’re just fluffy Aussie bunny equivalents but if there’s one thing about the fauna here: expect the unexpected.
The DFSV is the Expeditionary tank isn't it? Both it and Object 287 are available in Armored warfare but sadly as premium vehicles.
Only some one that has never experienced a Wombat would think they arent terrifying. I have seen cars hit them and have their engine torn out for the wombat to get up and walk away with a fuck you attitude. And they way the kill animals that go into their tunnels is just brutal. they will dig themselves down in the tunnel and wait for the creature to climb over them and then literally stand up and crush them into the roof of their tunnel. Also they can run at up to 40km/h (25mph). They are nigh on indestructable little tanks of animals. Naming a tank after one is showing great confidence in your tank.
