MIG Switch Flashcart for Nintendo Switch, PS5 Backups with Itemzflow Released - ModChat 114

- Опубліковано 16 чер 2024
- Only a couple topics for this final ModChat episode of 2023, but a couple big ones here with a lot to discuss! The first one being a flashcart for the Switch of all consoles, first teased and then revealed with much more detail. It seems this device will allow Switch owners to play game backups in XCI format on any model of the Switch, any firmware, without any modifications to the console itself! We also covered Itemzflow booting up PS5 game backups on jailbroken PS5 consoles, but it looks like Itemzflow has been released for PS5. This means PS5 game backups and native PS5 homebrew apps are now working on jailbroken PS5 consoles! Finally, an old 3DS leak gets answered, proving that if someone says their parent works for Nintendo they might not be lying after all. Enjoy this final episode of 2023!

$60 for 5 year old games on switch, you're begging for people to pirate games, one lesson Nintendo never learns.
Honestly your not wrong, Ive had a switch for 3 years and only own two game (1 which I've purchased and the other was a gift) as I'm not willing to drop $60 on a game I might not continue playing
@@seanc6228they have some good game for cheaper on the e shop, but do you really own a game from the e shop?
Third party games have the same price as on PSN and Xbox store when they are on discount. Nintendo knows people love their first party games , hence no price drop. I just wish they continue Nintendo Select titles on the Switch.
@main_tak_becus6689 Looking at 3rd party games such as the Final Fantasy collection and Persona games right now, and they are usually rrp with discounts being extremely rare.
@@main_tak_becus6689 what you mean I can get games like the halo master chief collection for $10 and games like god of war for like $9 , when the hell have you seen games like breath of the wild for anything less than $30?
I bought a Sky 3DS and primarily used it to mount Cubic Ninja and the other exploitable games. It worked okay but CFW on 3DS and switch is far superior. However with no soft mod available on V2 switches, this product might appeal to people who want game backups but are afraid of soldering. Hope you enjoyed traveling and good luck in 2024.
For sure, and thank you!
Can you play psp games with mig switch in nintendo switch?
This is great news. Already read it on Twitter, and I can't wait for its release.
Super excited for this and this is one of many things I'm looking forward to in 2024.
Thank you for all your videos, information, and musings.
Happy travels to you in 2024.
Thanks so much for the kind words, have a safe 2024!
New Modchat lessgoooo!
Interesting we're only getting this now but that's probably a good thing being at the near end, curious to see what the general community thinks of the MIG before I decide to grab one, otherwise there should be a revision that fixes some issues
The way information travels across the internet so fast, the odds that N knows about MIG is quite high.
Oh absolutely.
Question is…. Can they do anything about it? After all, in US we are allowed to make backups of games we own no?
@@MrEliwankenobi It's technically a grey area, it's been a while since I've done my research but in the US there is a first sale doctorine, and what that says is for example you buy a book from a book store, and tear out all the pages that's not a crime. You can take that book, resell it, burn it, shove it into a ditch for all they care.
The grey area is that of you buy a cartridge is the same thing true? The answer is mostly a "I guess so" but like I said the grey area is that you don't actually own the game you own a license, and that's what Nintendo would argue
@@MrEliwankenobi Yes in America where everyone legally owns 1000 Switch games to back up to their hard drive.
Amazing show!!
I used to travel all over the world for work, but since COVID I've discovered so many cool little towns within my own region, and most importantly; mum and dad pawn shops that will do me great game deals!
That's awesome! Support local, and there's so much untapped potential in your own area.
Whats a "mum and dad pawn shop" is that an "adult" type store??
Nintendo's Lawyers: "Showtime!"
love to travel , keep up the info and hard work you do , all the best for 2024
Thanks so much!
Thank you for the explanation on the certificate system
You are welcome
the news about that cardloader are interesting!
not for me, I have few unpatched devices already.. but for my sister :D
and I love traveling, especially to Japan.
Sometimes piracy is the only way for game preservation on retro consoles but on a current-gen it may hurt the industry.
With so many handheld devices emulating switch games now rather well (Linux, windows, or android based), it won't make a big difference for this old 'current gen' Nintendo device. I'll travel with an AYN Odin 2 from now on
Expect 3rd party gaming servers ... des should work
This will be nice to carry your switch games in one cartridge if the next gen also reads switch cartridges. Just for that "if" i eill pick one up.
Mr. Mario, in the video you passed over their dumping solution. It read they give you a dongle you insert your cart into and then plug into a PC, which then dumps your game. Brilliant for that second set of people if it is that easy!!!
I did talk about the dumping solution when I was on the website, but there is no other information about it yet.
@@MrMario2011 It describes their dumper and how it works in the lower right hand corner at 14:34. Supposedly plug and play and you don't need another Switch w/ custom firmware
Travel ツ awesome as always!
I already suspected that this Flashcart worked somewhat like the Sky3DS, but I didn't know all the challenges that come with the Switch, like completely unique game keys and that even the card reader can be updateable by Nintendo, it seems in the end it would be better just to hard mod the console, but let's see how this product evolves and maybe just like the original R4 other manufacturers can make their own upgraded versions.
At 15:00, it says how it's supposed to dump the games, you're supposed to plug in a game cart into the Mig Dumper and then plug it into your PC, where a mounted device will be opened with the dumped game.
i hope you enjoyed your travels!
They went well!
@@MrMario2011 great to hear
I might pick this up I'm not sure. Lets see where this goes
Since the switch saves shortcuts for games would that mean that you would not have to keep doing the toggling once it has been done once? Or maybe the toggle switches the game that is emulated in the cartridge so in that case it wouldn't work, but im not sure.
these flashcards were going to made some years ago but the creator got a C&D from nintendo before they started making them only a small handful were made and sent out. if i remember correctly they werent used to play backups directly but as a way for v1 switched to get into cfw mode without needing the joycon thing
Nope, different project. You're thinking of the DragonInjector.
There's the 3rd group of people who want to have a majority of a large collection available to them at one time rather than having to carry around multiple carts. I have a large PS3 collection of over 1200 games and have CFW on my consoles to allow me to add the games I want to play to save on disc wear and saves having to find the games in the collection every time I want to play and travel.
True, however, good luck with that game swapping on a large collection.
Problem with mig is if you have lots of games your pressing it a lot to get to the game you want then even more if you accidently passed it
Agreed
could be maybe a possible way to make it so you can scroll through or so. I wont be surprised if the community figures something or the devs when fully released and many tested it
If this card doesn't cost too much it will be a game changer
I'm curious about potential implications for the upcoming Switch successor that’s anticipated to be coming next year as its expected to support backward compatibility with current Switch game cartridges and software. While the game card design for 'Switch 2' is likely to differ and be incompatible with this device, it would be interesting to see if the MIG Switch could function on a Switch successor, even if only for playing Switch ‘backups’ in backward compatibility mode.
I did see some people asking about this, it will be interesting to see!
@@MrMario2011 had a tinfoil hate theory that this is nintendo releasing this as a "see, this is why the switch 2 is digital only" excuse when the switch 2 comes out.
I had a Sky and the Double switch gateway card.....ahhhh....fun times
I thought you were KoL for a moment.
I remember using the M3i for DSi devices - we would have to flash the cartridge after an update to keep it working
What do you mean by flash the cartridge
@@Mr3DLC there was a tiny little ribbon cable to thread into the cartridge and plug into USB. After an update blocked the cartridge, you could update the cartridge (it had a red LED that would blink) to get it working again! Eventually they stopped issuing updates so regularly
Interesting news about the Switch... and the PS5... I personally dont like to travel (long story)... Thanks for the video bro. You are the best.
Totally get that, the homebody life works out as well 🙂
Its a start, Can't wait until this gets updated by the community and remove those needed extra files. The way this cartridge stands with all its limitations I would say its worth $30 if it could use regular common roms I would say it would be worth $60-$80.
I travelled right before COVID-19 affected the world and loved it! Now I'm ready to travel again.
Traveling is wonderful!
An solution to legally dump my own switch games for backup safe keeping to protect my games from being stolen, etc…. Would be huge!
Yeah. Definitely. We're all buying it to create backup of our own games safe. Sure.
@@EvzenEmanuel 😂😂 yupp, can't wait for the opportunity of backing up my legal games. Did i mention that i just happen to own all existing switch games.
"an" solution? did you read that out load?
I remember when I first modded my Switch, I didn't own a jig or anything like that, and how I did the RCM mod was by opening the Joycon and shorting the pins using a screw driver. I went travelling, and I accidentally let the battery run out, so I lost my RCM and didn't have any screwdrivers with me to redo the RCM. In addition I forgot to take my only other game (BotW) with me so I only had Mario Odyssey to play while in the plane. I got a 3D printer a couple years ago and I printed maybe 10 RCM jigs so that I never have to worry again about not having a jig with me.
That's what I love about the hardmod: hit the power button and go!
@@MrMario2011 I remember seeing the RP2040 based modchip on one of your podcasts at some point but I haven't heard anything about it since. Should probably mod my Switch but not really sure if I should cheap out and get one of those Trinket thingies or look into a proper one.
I want to play Online tho so don't know what would be the best option.
I need to by this immediately the convience and the ability to dump my games is god tier, if they update yuzu to work with these dumps I’ll be playing 4K 60 in no time
Excellent video very interesting midswitch. I like to Travel to Puerto Rico my favorite place.
I need to visit there one day!
Kinda wished my UA-cam travels would have brought me here before ordering. Have a unmodded switch lite so I don’t know how I’d dump my own games
for me, if it provides a second microsd slot that can be used in atmosphere to store homebrew installs !!! am golden :P
32:28 I feel like someone is gonna make a tool to wirelessly share game updates with PC

They got a flash cart for the Switch?.........it's about to get REAL!!!
Wow this guy is smart
split xci works fine on mig
Okay so I have 4 different switches, one of them being a banned modded console that I use for offline play. The other 3 are stock. Might this new flash kart be able to dump games on my stock switch and then be able to play them online since it was dumped(imitating that I actually own the game) and then not having to worry about getting my stock switch banned? Based on hearing the mig switch will have their own game dumper
Saw this the other day, didnt know who was making the cart. Thanks again Dad! Good vid.
You're welcome, son.
The Nintendo Ninjas will not going to sit idle on this.
It uses the same roms as 3ds. Your gonna want your own dumps because each cart has its own ID. You could flag a by ID and block. The roms to switch has 2 lines encrypted with a m0 arm core. I couldn't figure out how to run more than one game at a time. I was gonna bit bang the USB card with a rp4020 or use the next pi up that had a USB already with a daughter board to go in slot for proto. Every thing you need was in the 2020 leak. You could write soft to set it up like gta where it shows all 3 games when inserted in the future.
It uses the same type of flash memory as a 3ds. I shouldn't of used rom.
My fear is how this will impact the used switch game market...
The main thing I'd be worried about is getting banned for using this which is a possibility with stuff like this on a modern console
Always a possibility
I love to travel (wish I could do it more) but hate flying!
I understand, I'm desensitized to flying thankfully, but I totally understand how and why people hate it.
Looks like I might have to get a PS5.
Can this be used to tun homebrew like chiaki?
Edit: at 20:00 he says homebrew probably will not run
I'll be honest, if I got that switch flash cart, I wouldn't use it for piracy, but more for games I already own and for emulators when updatable to be able to use emulation
Don't bet on any third party code running with this device unless you're plugging into a console running CFW.
@@MrMario2011 Honestly, it's still early and I don't have any doubts that the community will find a way, I mean, people have managed to make flash carts for NDS play movies and videos :P
I watched this video while traveling internationally
Awesome! Where did you go?
@@MrMario2011 India
i wonder if this flashcart will support custom xci, like base game + update or nsp converted to xci
That's what I'm curious about.
the original executer dongle and jig was 40 USD so i'm guessing it would be something similar
We can dream, but I doubt it will be that cheap.
Thats the problem when this type of products first get released, they can put whatever price they want because there js no other options, but pretty soon they will be other options that will be cheaper.
Have you ever mixed up the certificates/cartridges with the missus and got a strike online for mixing certificates. Is that a possibility with several copies of the same game in house? Surely there a chance it could happen. Would nintendo believe the explanation and lift a ban in this case or not. Im guessing they wouldnt budge on it.
Nope, since we use the cartridges themselves when we play online.
That guy from school who's like "pirate games are unreliable"
Will SD cards formatted with Onion, Garlic or JELOS OS work with the MIG flash cart?
OS doesn't matter, the format itself does.
@@MrMario2011 What format is needed then?
Knackered card slots incoming lol
Interesting from an engineering point of view, will a firnware update prevent this working? if not then it may well delay switch 2
They could use a different key for switch 2.
It could, especially because the game card slot can be updated itself!
I gotta know what does this cart taste like and yeah I don't travel much but I love playing my Vita on a long road trip
I feel like this one will taste much nicer than the retail ones.
Unless they go full Nintendo on us and mimic the coating 😂@@MrMario2011
I feel like this flash card is gonna be a window for people to be able to install cfw.
Not at all.
@@MrMario2011 why not?, if you don't mind me asking.
switch isn't booting from SD cards anytime soon, that still requires a CPU mod or recovery mode on v1 switch
I’m not a technical savant by any means, but what I don’t understand is why it requires having to eject and reinsert the cartridge in order to cycle through games. That can become extremely tedious, especially if you plan on storing more than hundreds, hell, even just dozens of games. I hope at some point there’s going to be some iteration that gives us a menu a kin to an R4 cartridge cause just that one flaw alone puts me off from considering purchasing this thing
Without any kind of unsigned code running, that's how it works to cycle out games, by literally removing a cart and inserting in another. Since there's no button or switch on the cart itself, it has to physically be done.
I wonder if you can pirate games (teoretically tho illegal), I mean if offline and you get rom from websites it should be runnable even if id checks and stuff?
They will run, but they won't have the certificates meaning none of them will be online safe.
@@MrMario2011 aha as I expected. Technically can run any game, but ofc can't go online and card reader wear will happen more than usual. Thanks for the reply, Do you personally think its legit? Many says so, but im still skeptical since it came suddenly recently
@@PwndersWoWI pre-ordered a week ago and it will ship next month. I don't even have a Switch lol. Let's see how it will turn out. If it's legit I will buy an OLED Red Mario.
@@main_tak_becus6689 hahaha loool! sounds good! Not pre ordered as I was too late, but got a v2 switch that was unpatched next week so I can mod xD But ofc If this works ill easily sell it for an oled instead tbf. As its worth it then.
Still call it Twitter to, X is.... yeah.
Better name.
I'm worried if this thing will somehow affect the Next Gen Nintendo console, what if Nintendo gets rid of backwards compatibility because of this thing? What if the next Switch uses the same cartridge format? What if developers might not wanna make games for the future console anymore if they're this easily pirated with just a flashcard?
I very much doubt backwards compatibility will be ended or developers will stop developing, but realistically I have no doubt that this would be patched on a Switch successor.
@@MrMario2011 ah, I see. Thanks for the reply MrMario! :D
I don't think developers will have any other type of job that pays as high as the one the are doing, so don't worry, they are not gonna stop developing games.
Hey uhh can import xci games from my android to switch instead of PC because I don't want to risk my PC
Probably, but that just sounds like more effort for no reason.
I have a feeling Nintendo will send these guys a Cease and Desist letter.
A C&D is about the nicest possible thing they can expect LOL
A C&D in a country at war that legalised pirating recently because they were targeted with economic sanctions from the western world ? @@MrMario2011
That's a huge news to the Brazilian Switch fans =). I wish to travel soon to europe and maybe buy an moddable PS5
Best of luck bringing it back! Traveling with a PS5 is not fun, they're huge!
What kind of joycons do you have, where can i buy it?
I bought the shells online and swapped them myself, I linked them directly in my Joy-Con reshell tutorial.
We still need 2tb micro sd cards...
I’m assuming you can dump your legal copies to this and mess around on pc using yuzu for example?! For preservation sake?! Cause if so this is very exciting!
You'd still need to dump console keys to use them in an emulator, which you can only legally do with a CFW enabled console you own.
Crap I forgot about the prod keys and firmware keys..
If this gets released i bet we'll see a wave of consoles getting banned when nintendo figures out a way for the switch to identify it
No doubt
TRAVEL-ing is great 1 or 2 times a year, but that's enough 🙂
Totally get it, I'm about the same.
Its always morally correct to screw Nintendo in anyway possible.
i love the idea of the switch flashcart cause of the ease for newbies but dang it Nintendo will ban it for sale in Australia & the UK fast! #predicted
Australia for sure I can imagine.
@@MrMario2011 no doubt!
i've ordered & lost 20+ ntrboot carts to customs in 2023.
the flash cart reminds me of the early 3DS flash carts called SKY3DS+
That's the one with a button to cycle between ROMs... The non-plus SKY3DS was such a pain to change games... as the Mig-Switch will be I'm afraid
To be honest I don’t care about backups. If i will be able to play my Pokemon games on a gbc emulator and some cool homebrew games i found online i will buy it
This will not do that, you are looking for CFW.
I am definitely sceptical about this mig switch thing. Taking the thing in and out seems annoying. Also the potential of getting my system banned is another issue. That is a Yikes. I gotta see more of exactly how this works over time. Though it is fascinating.
The in and out solution to switch up games is definitely annoying, I was surprised there was not a button to cycle through them.
damm just last week I thought what if the switch cartridge could support a microsd just like the M3 for the ds
yea,same thing:(
i wonder how sturdy the switch card slot really is... this feels like itll put a lot of unecessary wear and tear
I personally don't think it will be enough wear and tear to make a difference.
I would rather have Nintendo Switch USB loader 😢
That would be so lovely.
Yoooo write that down
Oh, so you can't use it to play mods?
Only signed code.
Safe to sync trophy jailbreak PS5?
No PSN access.
Yea the nintendo leak was 2020 it took over 3 years. Since then to release. I cant blame them didnt start looking at it until june 2023. Mrmario explination of the certs was good. Your gonna need your own dumps not internet ones. The card slots are only a dollar usd so buying / making a dumper should not be to much. I would still wait for the knock offs.
I am curious to see how long it would take clones to come out, that's something I did not even consider until I saw other comments about it.
I bought a gateway and then they faked their disappearance then a new company sky3ds appeared which turned out to be the same people. at that moment 3ds hacking was only a 2 day process so I did that instead.
I don't know if it was a different company, but Gateway going out sad by stealing and implementing such a poor version of A9LH was hilarious.
@@MrMario2011 they finished themselves off by bricking consoles if you had used a competitors flashcard.
Of course i comment this on THE 360 hardmodding channel, but i have a Rev 1 thats modded, I just dont like mod chips, i feel they are fairly untrustworthy, and quite shady. Ill take a soft mod any day
I'm of the opposite opinion, almost every hardmod solution for consoles out there is better from what I experience. I've even chipped the v1 consoles due to convenience, super nice to just hit the power button and go.
@@MrMario2011 Its probably a little easier to be fully untethered, but even on older consoles I prefer to use softmods, and you learn to work around the jank, on the PS3, you have to reload that website, for example. Something else I like, is that with a factory reset it's fully stock again, almost always with a soft mod that's true. It's worth mentioning that I'm the only one who uses my hacked consoles, I don't sell them, I don't "give them away" to people, if I hack a thing it's for me, so I can deal with a little jank.
all these PS5 developments, and i'm just waiting for an exploit on PS4 9.03 ;-;
Might be best to just find a low firmware system 😛
I would imagine nintendo will update this thing out of existence.
Definitely possible since the game card slot can be updated!
As you said is too late for a product like this, even the eyepatch gang have more options like PC and steam deck emulation with mods and better FPS on PC. Even though I have a day one switch I have never modded it but truth is I don't have many switch games either just the Nintendo exclusives and not all of them just Mario, Zelda, Pikmin and Metroid mostly and a few others. I personally don't see the need for that card cause even my yearly count has a few games played for no more than 60 hours total.
I only travel to the fridge
After Time X is responsible for the release (Team Executor). Funny to see them pretend to be journalists lol.
Can this work on a patched switch?
The MIG Switch was designed for patched switches. If you have a V1 unpatched switch then running Atmosphere (CFW) is a much better solution. You don't have to mount and unmount to cycle through each game.
@@yayyayyyyalisa sadly I have a patched switch. But since u said it’s designed for patched switch, I should be fine.
How long before the Chinese copy it and it is only $30 or $40 dollars.
I have a feeling that this flashcart is a scam. There are a few red flags IMO.
I think that's just the odd nature of devices like this 😂
I mean these things are already legally dubious to say the least lol
@@MrMario2011 True! But also, their website is really making sure that you know they are from Russia. Why? So it would feel more legit to make payments in crypto or what? Also, info for this device seems to be posted from a random Twitter account of a website that has only 3 pages of articles. Seems very freshly baked.
I don't know, but it feels very fishy to me. Gut feeling tells me this device is not real.
$20-30, sign me up. Anything over that, no thanks.
I'd be surprised if it's that affordable.
Yeah, but Nintendo can ban cartridges... And if I remember well with the 3DS, R4s were a headache to use after the 3DS system updates
Mr. Mario that’s the reason I don’t like to mod my Nintendo consoles. I know that every cartridge has a unique game code certificate for each cartridge and I know Nintendo servers have an active security algorithm that issues console and cartridge bans automatically. As soon as you want to update the game, you are done. It can take less than a minute to get all banned. Nintendo is running a security designed by Microsoft for Nintendo servers. We all know how robust Microsoft security is unlike Sony. Lol 😂 I would like to travel to Spain 🇪🇸 one day.
I've heard absolutely lovely things about Spain! As for the Switch, from what I've seen, as long as you do any non-OFW stuff on emuMMC and block online access, you're good there.
Now there will be cheap Switchs for sale with broken worn out Card slots.
I doubt it will be that bad, but it is entertaining to think about. Thankfully the slots seem to be pretty easy to replace.
Non of the certificate stuff matters to me. My switch id use this with is banned lol
Good luck getting game patches 😬
@@MrMario2011 don’t think I’m too worried about that. I have a few games on my banned switch that is soft modded that are not up to date
