Wow, I haven’t heard this song in ages! I always loved it! Just a great vibe and beat. Thanks very much for the request, MissKitten, and for the reaction, Harri.
This is a great song, Harri ! .. But you now need to check out the band that Pete Shelley became famous with, The Buzzcocks .. They were one of the very best punk / pop bands, and had heaps of melodic gems about the angst of love and relationships .. An absolute classic is "Ever Fallen' In Love With Someone" .. Check out the video of it from TOTP 1978 .. Cheers, Wayne
A while back we reviewed this song and album on our channel The Vinyl Community Guncles. It was a big deal at the time to sing about this topic. The green carnation used to be "code" in the Edwardian era (I think) that you were gay. There's also this edge of bitterness in the song in that Shelley (who's gay, was with the punk band Buzzcocks) is not entirely comfortable with himself, a common sentiment among gays of that era. I was very surprised that you reacted to this song and pleased at your reaction. It is a great song, definitely catchy as you said. In case you want to check them out, listen to these two songs (no need to do a reaction video unless you want to) - Glad To Be Gay by the punk group The Tom Robinson Band, and Smalltown Boy, by Bronski Beat. Cheers.
Thanks, Harri and YesMissKeaton (spelling?) for this trip down Memory Lane. Haven't heard this song since the 1980s when I was in college. Love it! Never have seen the music video either.
I haven't listened to this in years. You are correct - banned from most radio, but played in clubs like all good stuff. I got the homo vibe as well, but took it more as you are human and so am I.
I like that this video borrows the set, more or less" from "2001 Space Oddesey". That set, from the film's final scenes, was really a zoo where the human ("homosapiens) is put on display. Which is one of the things Mr. Shelly is asking us not to do.
It’s no mistake that the root word is “homo”. It’s a clever play on words to suggest both equality- we’re all homosapiens”, and a coded signal of attraction to a specific person “I’m a homosexual like you”.
Thanks for sharing

Always loved this when it came on the radio station I listened to in the late 80's to about 2002! And I believe it was made in the early to mid 80's!
This is new to me but has a New Wave sound about it. Nice Miss Kitten and Harri.
