Today in this Powerstroke Central youtube video we picked up this intercooler for my 1996 7.3L powerstroke. The special thing about this is these trucks don't come with an intercooler out of the factory. So by adding this we lowered our egt's and increased fuel economy. This guy is a true powerstroke soldier!
I put a Super Duty intercooler in my 95. It took me about a hours to complete by myself. It made a 200 degree difference in EGT's. Later I added 160cc injectors and a Hydra. It still smokes on hot tunes. Next mod is a smaller exhaust housing on the turbo to get earlier spool up and less smoke.

@ronpedrick3755 Smaller exhaust housin but a 3" outlet. The stock turbo exducer size on a 1994-1997 7.3L Ford Powerstroke is 80 mm. The stock exhaust housing on this turbo has a 1.15 A/R, which was designed to keep exhaust temperatures low due to the lack of an intercooler. But it could prolly handle a .85-.91 a/r housin with an intercooler

I did the balance kit rebuild from KC with 1.0ar. I have a down pipe and full cat back on my 95. No IC yet. Truck stays the coolest with EGTs when I run it on large grades at 25-2750 rpms. The balance of air, fuel and turbo is great in these circumstances. EGT gauge is a game changer as you should operate the truck by it. The right rpms spools the turbo at its most efficient level helping control EGT, smoke, etc.

You should also put a bigger down pipe on, it can help as the original one is super restrictive. I believe you still have the stock one on, been a while

That's not an intercooler.It's an aftercooler an intercooler is built inside the intake
Another thing to add would’ve been some 3” intake plenums so the engine can breath better. I have the riff raff diesel billet aluminum plenums waiting to go on my ‘99 when i collect the rest of the parts i’ll be replacing so i can do it all in one shot.

Awesome build what you should do is buy a petal sensitivity booster bd makes a nice one and add it to the 6.0 or 6.7 and see how much of a difference it makes on a tuned truck i put one on my upgraded 6.0 and it made a night and day difference
1k + for a setup. Maybe 100$ go to a parts yard and grab one off a junk superduty simple cheep. Works.
Do you know how turbos work? The exhust spins the turbine wheel then goes out the exhust pipe the turbo impeller sucks and forces air into the intake. The engine does not eat hot exhaust

My 7.3 gets that 0-60 on just a turbo and tune but its an 02. What do you think is keeping yours above 8 seconds. With that amount of fuel and air it should be faster i would think maybe not though.

The Eod40 shifts really slowly and hard compared to a modern transmission and it also doesn’t have enough gears so the engine can’t stay in the correct rpm making the truck much slower

I haven't seen much about water injection with diesels. Could it reduce temps as much as EGR without the EGR problems?

Is a EGT gage optional cuz I have 1.5 injectors an stage 2 turbo with no gages???
A gauge cluster is a good idea for any tuned truck especially if you have a lead foot
Nice! Did you ever do the up pipes? Mine started making that same noise almost like a belt under heavy throttle when cold. I'm worried about fitment in the cheaper pipes available interested what you went with/what you are thinking. I was looking at the swag performance kit

I run the KC turbos bellowed on my 99, the hardware seems cheap but the fitment is great. No more throwing over boost codes on hills

Hey, fellow Texan here. Could you help me diagnose a crank no start on my 96 7.3? I replaced the wiring harness, the valve cover gaskets, and put a Crude Diesel e-fuel and fuel bowl delete kit on it. It ran great before i did all this but now it won't start.
And another thing that I found odd is I have no check engine light on but when I try starting it, the "Engine Temp" and "Fuel Filter" light turn on. I have around 65-68 psi of fuel pressure. I read that it could be the ignition cylinder? I replaced it with a Duralast 5,000 miles ago. I'm young and broke and I need my truck back on the road. 😂
