    I was so nervous for this game. I ran a quick lube shop and we had no customers at game time. normally i would have told my techs to find something to clean. That night I said 'come watch this game.' I wasn't alive in '72 but I like to think I did my part in 2010.

    3638 to 1745 is the best display of hockey you will see. The full speed one tough passing that almost lead to a goal and the 14 passes on the cycle that lead to the goal are unbeatable.

    The Nash Goal 26:55 was just awesome.
    Malkin dances with the puck too long, Toews forces the turnover. Puck finds Richards's stick and all three Canadian forwards ACCELERATE. Especially Nash. Richards outlets it to Toews... Nash blows past two Russian backcheckers, receives the backhand pass from Toews and snipes it top cheese past Nabokov.
    Game, Set, Match.

    the problem with russia is that they are all goal scorers except datsyuk and malkin. thats all they know how to do is score. canada has many players who are one of the top point scorers on their teams but can take on a different roles when they arent counted on to score. on this team, bergeron can be a shutdown guy, richards could win clutch faceoffs, toews can be the first guy back on the backcheck, crosby can be the guy who gets all the attention to make room for everyone else. everyone on canada can play a different role that a team needs. on russia, everyone tries to score.

    • @Relbl
      @Relbl 10 років тому +2

      That is fair to say, but I'd say in contrast that Russia has the players to do better at least, but that their coaching is shit. None of the hacks they dig up is qualified to coach a major junior club in Canada, and so they don't know how to use the talent. If they bit the bullet and managed to lure a top Canadian coach they could be taken VERY seriously again. As it is, they are definitely a 2nd tier national squad now, along with the Swiss and Americans.

    • @scottwill19
      @scottwill19 10 років тому +1

      i also agree. the coaching decisions that bilyaletdinov and bykov did in both olympics are completely mind boggling. like seriously? one of you goalies gets a shutout and you play the cold goalie in an elimination game the next night in 2014? and in 2010 you pull nabokov after SIX goalies instead of after the first period? who in russia is paying these guys? xD

      The thing with Russian players is that they a majority of them seem to individual players and don't work well as a team. Ovechkin for example is one of the best goal scorers in the world but if you don't have a great passer like Backstrom feeding him, he won't score and that why Russia always looses in Olympics becaause they only have shooters, expect from one or two players. Some Russian players can get away with just dangling and shooting in the NHL or KHL but when it gets to international level the other teams are just to solid

Or that whole big doping scandal which has caused Russia to be banned from the Olympics.
      It's funny when Russians try to say other people don't play fairly at the Olympics.

    I remember the lights going dark and Slash hits the first notes of Welcome to the Jungle, and the whole arena became so loud you lost hearing. And the crowd never stopped - it was soul crushing. Poor Russia was so rattled after a 3 minute goal, IIRC they had the NHL lineup, but they pulled their goalie early and started juggling lines. It was just a mess.

    Beating America for Gold was fairly sweet, but there is just something about beating the Russians that is 100x sweeter. That it was an elimination game and we embarrassed them when many predicted Russia as favoured to win Gold made it 100x sweeter still! I can still remember how insanely jacked our office was as we saw the third goal (of course all work stopped after the Getzlaf made it 1-0).

    @spyzah What game were you watching? Canada could've potted 4 or 5 easily but Miller was standing on his head; all America got was a fluky tip from Kes and a late scramble with six on the ice that Luongo still almost got. America leaned on their goalie and almost came up with a miracle, but no one with eyes or knows a thing about hockey could say America out-played them in the final. Even in the round-robin game, it was Brodeur letting in softies that won it for America, not out-playing per se

    Canada iced the biggest team ever in international play. Imagine, Canada could easily have iced a second team with the likes of Stamkos, Letang, .......

    have you seen Russian hockey team playing at the world cup in Finland and Sweden? it's been years since i saw them playing so nicely. during the tournament no other team could stand up against us. we were domineering massively in each game. the two host teams were literaly crushed in the presence of all these fans.A lot of work has been done. And we've been working so hard just to be the first in Sochi and trust me no other team will be capable of withstanding Russia at the Games in 2014

    Russians need not hang their heads low. If it were not for Russian hockey players of the 70's and 80's, Canadian players would not be what they are today. Russian hockey players and Canada versus Russia hockey matches raised the awareness of Canada to the concept of conditioning. In the 70's, Canadian Professionals were sluggish, spoiled, lazy and entitled. Russian skill and conditioning were evident in the summit series. Canadian Hockey took a turn for the better and all of hockey benefited from those games. Stand proud Russia.

      +jimmy pye Absolutely right. Canada adopted a lot of technical aspects as well. I think Canada took more from that series than the Soviets. It's funny, Canada was supposed to dominate that series and were supposed to teach the Soviets how to play!

      +jimmy pye You know the thing is I totally agree - without the innovations the USSR made to hockey, it may have never developed into what you now see. They were making team- based strategies and training changes in areas the NHL was still playing beer league. Heck, you can't even say 'Butterfly' goaltending without a reference to Vladislav Tretiak

    Canada will have to put a couple centres on the wing because they have too many centres that can make the team. Stamkos, Giroux, Crosby, Toews, Getzlaf, Tavares, Richards
    However, Giroux was a winger and made the transition to center last year because Philli needed a top line centre. So Im sure he won't have a problem going back to his normal position. As for stamkos, like I said, some centres have to go the the wing. Stamkos to wing may not work but im sure theyll try him with Crosby together.
