    Amazing video. My lawnmower has been getting worse for years and I have just gotten use to it. I watched this video 10 min ago, went out and adjusted the cable. Now, for the first time in a couple years, I'm able to mow straight up my hill. Thank you so much for the advise.

    Thank you so much! My husband is a disabled Veteran so the mowing is my responsibility. We live in WV & the yard is too sloped for a riding mower. I have been struggling with the self propelled for 2 seasons now! I watched this, went out & adjusted & off we went!!!!!! Thank you so much!

    Third time you saved me this summer on a 2 yr old Honda GCV 160 Snapper self propelled mower. Ran into the lawn mower repair guy at Lowes asking where I’ve been this season. I said ,”I got a new man in my life helping me now.” He said, “Ohhhh.” Me: “His name is uh …Steve. Just Steve…Yeah”. Him: “Oh…well ok. That’s uh good. Have a good one.” Walks away. That was awkward. Thanks for helping a gal learn how to make many repairs with confidence. Saved again! 😊

    COMPLETE LIFE SAVER!! Thank you for showing me this I was just about to send my mower away for 150$ or more and two week wait time. All for a simple cable tighten. The 3/8 gave me a little trouble at first but once I was able to loosen and crank it all the way down it worked like a charm!!!! Saved 200$ and 2 weeks. AWESOME

    Was getting ready to check belts when I found your video. When handle was pulled, mine would barely move. Adjustment on my cable was about half way down cable. Turned it a couple turns and now it runs away with me! Amazing. Saved me a lot of headache disassemblying mower and then probably would have still not have pulled. This adjustment must be best kept secret because several mechanics never mentioned this fix! Thanks!!!

    So... I immediately came in from struggling with my mower for the last time. It was" I can fix it or I must buy another because there is no one within 110 miles that will" time. Your video answered my question and literally less than 5 minutes later, here I am to say it is fixed and adjusted to pull the mover out of my hands. Triple tanks from this

    Awesome fix Steve! Quick note, I have a toro self propelled and only have a singular bar for my wheel control. The mechanism to shorten the pull chain was a nut and bolt being used to hold tension on a plastic piece that was holding the chain in place. I had to loosen the nut to release the pressure on the chain, pull the chain away from the bar and retighten the nut. Same basic principal but it was a little different than this mechanism and thought I should share. Almost got discouraged when I saw they were different but I was able to figure it out based on your explanation of the mechanism! Thanks dude.

    • @janesmith9024
      @janesmith9024 11 місяців тому

      I have a toro too and today have done an acre with no self propelling! I am exhausted. I found something up by the top that will unscrew but it did not have any effect. Next bit seems to be hidden in plastic casing I cannot get off or not when I'm exhausted. I am an older woman so not even familiar with most of the terms. I will have another look another day but your point looks useful if I can find a chain inside somewhere.

    Never knew about the adjustment so thank you. Unfortunately when inspecting and cleaning my mower I found the cable had snapped. Quick search on Amazon and $28 I got a brand new Husqvarna drive cable. Took about 10-15 minutes to install…super easy (helps a lot if you have a long set of needle nose pliers). Then your tip on adjusting the cable came in, now it’s perfect. Thanks again!!

    Hi Steve, great video on adjusting the drive. I’d like to add my 2 cents. My old mowers plastic is getting brittle.
    The cable Colette on the deck had fell apart so the cable wouldn’t tighten. I clamped a small hose clamp on the cable at the top of the deck. Now there is tension on the cable to activate the drive train.
    Hope this helps the old mower users.. cheers
