I don't get why people complain about him doing too many pitch harmonics. He does them all in the right places of songs. Sure, he sometimes gets carried away, but it still sounds good. Telling Zakk Wylde to not use them is like telling Eddie Van Halen not to use the tapping technique. It's part of their sounds.
If you are a fan of his playing like I am, I personally would only listen to the opinions of the guitar players that can play better than Zakk. You may find one or two out there. Somewhere.
Haters gotta hate , drummer long time Zakk fan. A few years back jammed with a guitarist , he wouldn't play any Zakk songs, more like couldn't. Tell Zakk is a glorified rhythm guitar player, I almost socked him.
Never seen this person until today, I'm Hooked, lol love the fact that it's on YT this video and show folks what's up with the song he made and that's Awesome in itself. Thanks
C O O L ! Gotta dig the Zakkster! Great tune! Get well soon, Zakk! Get rid of them blod clots! I need some more of your insane pentatonic mayhem! BLS ! ! ! \m/
Zakk is correct, stay away from smack. One of my best friends died at age 31 from a heart attack. He used to slam heroin & then got into speed-balling with heroin & meth. He was six-months sober when he died. His heart was damaged from the speed-balling. He died alone, on the floor, holding his pet cat. Also, after my first band split up, I started working with a great bass player, Matt. He was like Cliff Burton 2.0. He had the same look (facially & body) & played ONLY with his fingers. He played technical death metal in a band that split due to drug addiction. I played thrash. We formed up with a jazz drummer & were heading in a promising direction, until Matt got back into heroin & seeking his next fix became the focus of his life. Stay away from opium in ALL FORMS (heroin or pharmaceutical opiods) unless dire need for medical (in a hospital).
I'm sorry friend.. I've been clean since Christmas 2017 off heroin... going on 6 years now.... It does drastically damage your body... I'm just glad I got out alive
This song f*cking rules! Ass kicking goodness!!! I saw BLS live a few years ago and it was off rhw hook!~ Crowded with bikers from everywhere and I loved it! I gotta get that rotovibe pedal for my Les Paul now! Thakns for posting this lesson!
zakk is one of my greatest idols. i just wish there was a video that teaches you how to do that shredding solo badassness that he does. and if there is one, please direct me, i will be at that site in a heartbeat.
@guitarkiller1965 It's Drop C. A whole step down then drop the what is now D to a C. System of a Down also used this tuning on the albums before mezmerize. It's essentially drop D but a full step down
He isnt calling the Note at the 3rd fret an E He is just refferring the string he plays it on as being the low E Even though he has it tuned down, Many people have the habit of still referring to the strings as though they were in standard tuning. So even if he tunes down to C, for ease of description he will still refer to his 6th string as being the Low E Hope that made sense for ya dude
you know, you know, you know, you know, you know...... totally 17 times is this vid haha :D but thats what i like in Zakk too :D you are a grea guitarist!!!
yeah of course... but you know what I was talking about. open tunings are more common in blues and country, where you yuse a slide. my expression was wrong, of course I meant drop - d tuning.
@TheLliyoR I believe this IS a dropped tuning. Whole step down 1st (standard D) then drop 6th string to C (drop C) but unless you are using heavy guage strings they will be spaghetti at this tuning.
who cares what he calls it.I am forty yrs old.been playin since I was 9.Grew up with mr.Van Halen,...George lynch,....Warren Demartini,....Satch,....Vai,....Carlos Santana,....and even the nugent,....Zak(whom my youngest son is named after)...is a GOD in my book
you take a normal tuned guitar, e-a-d-g-b-e , then d-tune it d-a-d-g-b-e and then you tune the whole guitar 1 step down: c-g-c-f-a-d ( is this right? I hope). voilá: drop c tuning. in metal you often do this because it sounds bigger and heavyer. hope it helped cpt.
Funny he says, 'definite Black Sabbath influence'... when I first heard this song I thought THIS should be how Sabbath should sound in 2011. Vocals and all..
This opening riff is very similar to "No more Tears" riff, chops are different. I got to say though one my favorite BLS riffs has got to be Crazy horse.
@mturquie those little micro stacks kill it, get the mxr zakk wylde overdrive or the boss sd-1 and throw it out front of it with some hot pickups and its brutal
lol guys ur doing it wrong, it says 2 D strings, BUTT its a whole step down tuning so it goes to C G C F A D (drop C), so yeah there are 2 "D" strings, but tuned to C. hope u get it now xF!
I don't get it, in Guitar Pro there is a different way to play this (kinda difficult). But when I play this version, it just sounds wierd (with DROP D tuning) Is he playing the low E and the fifth string together, or JUST THE LOW E........ HELP!!! I'm new at guitar playing so bare with me.
his tone is beastly in this vid. somewhere along the line it got pretty muddy. Anyways hope to hear a new album from Zakk and the BLS crew, shame Craig left.
can't everyone just Listen and watch the video without arguing about something mean really I do get the whole concept of expression your own thoughts and opinions but really its over rated doesnt really sholve anything..... Awesome Video Kick ass Song Bad Ass Band

Somewhere.
Well fucking said brother
One song I think he over use it is in doomsday jesus chorus.
Haters gotta hate , drummer long time Zakk fan. A few years back jammed with a guitarist , he wouldn't play any Zakk songs, more like couldn't. Tell Zakk is a glorified rhythm guitar player, I almost socked him.
Met this guy at the airport, super nice chill dude. Gave me a handful of picks nd I proceeded to cargo all his guitars. Awesome day, awesome dude.
That riff is so badass, my Epiphone turned into Gibson
@@truthfultheory6153 lol good joke by me, properly chuckled lol
@@gman248 So your guitar is a transbrand?
3:20 gives me goosebumps! love it
This riff is ridiculously simple, but it's what he does with it that's the magic. Kickass tune, but few can play it the way Zakk makes it work.
Makes me mad !
Zakk is such a cool and humble dude. Always willing to help people...
you can feel the groove through your speakers...
awesome. the marshall sounds so tight.
Never seen this person until today, I'm Hooked, lol love the fact that it's on YT this video and show folks what's up with the song he made and that's Awesome in itself. Thanks
those Zakk Wylde crybaby wahs kick ass.
i've been playing one as long as they've been on the market. i couldn't be more impressed
Drop C = C G C F A D (low to high)
Great song \m/
C O O L !
Gotta dig the Zakkster!
Great tune!
Get well soon, Zakk!
Get rid of them blod clots!
I need some more of your insane pentatonic mayhem!
BLS ! ! !

That's why you stick with the Flinstone chewables lmao
Zakk Wylde is a motherfucking legend. A true GOD.
I think he’s probably the best. But there’s only one God. Zakk is a Legend.
Zakkkkkkkk I Love You So Much!!!111

It does drastically damage your body... I'm just glad I got out alive
i could never uderstand the lyrics it always sounded to me like bow down to Jamacia and im like whaaaa.....?
"Bow down, you chose your maker
He never gives, he's always a taker
The electric burns that fuel the fire
It's just your suicide messiah."
Zakk Wylde is and always will be the best singer/guitar player ever.
I like the way he says 'tremelo'
ZAKK!!!!!!!!!!! YOU KICK ASS.. FOR MAKING THESE VIDS!!! YOU MAKE ME WANNA PICK UP MY GUITAR AND PLAY EVERY TIME I HEAR YOUR MUSIC!
This guy is such a character! Hes funny. He plays awesome and has mad tone.
Yeah, thats what i was getting at! You guys explained it better than Zakk did, god love him !!
I'm soo excited about seeing them in febuary
Of the four horseman of Ozzy, Zakk is the master.
Damn, it is awesome to see Brother Zakk playin' my thank you fiddle!
Awesom bro...we're closing the 2nd stage out @ the rave in milwaukee oct.2nd 2010....hope you cam make it down to check us out..
The yellow pedal is an MXR Stereo Chorus! I have one great pedal love it!
@one1reef the tuning of his guitar is D-G-C-F-A-D tune your strings to that and then it will sound right
@TheLliyoR No thats wrong. He is playing in D-standard which is just every string tuned down a wholestep. It isn't a drop tuning, its a standard.
zakk is one of my greatest idols. i just wish there was a video that teaches you how to do that shredding solo badassness that he does. and if there is one, please direct me, i will be at that site in a heartbeat.
He says Drop D, but that doesn't really work when playing along with the CD. Drop C tuning though, works a lot better.
i bet Zakk is an awsome guy to hang out with
The white is his signature overdrive and the yellow is a MXR stereo chorus.
@guitarkiller1965 It's Drop C. A whole step down then drop the what is now D to a C. System of a Down also used this tuning on the albums before mezmerize. It's essentially drop D but a full step down
no it's scott weiland his talking about. He explains it on the skullage dvd
That it was about the kid from Blind Melon band.
Long live Zakk!
@samonmanify That is a Dunlop MXR M134 Stereo Chorus. There you go my friend. Look it up on youtube, I might be wrong.
Bro did anyone else find it fucking sick when he was showing his roto vibe n shit? Goosebumps bruh
the tuning is called Db or C# (for the record) =]
He isnt calling the Note at the 3rd fret an E
He is just refferring the string he plays it on as being the low E
Even though he has it tuned down, Many people have the habit of still referring to the strings as though they were in standard tuning.
So even if he tunes down to C, for ease of description he will still refer to his 6th string as being the Low E
Hope that made sense for ya dude
zakk is so dang cool to share what he know
wont see vh do that
you know, you know, you know, you know, you know...... totally 17 times is this vid haha :D but thats what i like in Zakk too :D you are a grea guitarist!!!
My god!!!!!! I'd kill for that tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Jackstock500 lolololol. Are you serious. Dude, it's drop D tuning, with the whole guitar tuned down a whole step.
That ol boy can Rock now😃😃😃
It's just drop C dude, first do a drop d, then tuen ADGBE strings to the D, and then tune the D another step down.
yeah of course... but you know what I was talking about.
open tunings are more common in blues and country, where you yuse a slide.
my expression was wrong, of course I meant drop - d tuning.
Zakk Wylde + Les Paul + Marshall = The next coming of jesus
" thats why you stick to you flinstone chewables" hahahaha zakk wylde is the shit!
People shouldn't complain about Zakk doing too many pinch harmonics!! He mastered them and should be proud that he does what he does!!!
Yes Zakk... I KNOW!!
@TheLliyoR I believe this IS a dropped tuning. Whole step down 1st (standard D) then drop 6th string to C (drop C) but unless you are using heavy guage strings they will be spaghetti at this tuning.
His sound is very well developed!
does he wear those straps on his forearms and wrist to prevent carpal tunnel
who cares what he calls it.I am forty yrs old.been playin since I was 9.Grew up with mr.Van Halen,...George lynch,....Warren Demartini,....Satch,....Vai,....Carlos Santana,....and even the nugent,....Zak(whom my youngest son is named after)...is a GOD in my book
@exeter13 It is drop D just 1 step down.. same thing as drop c just different lingo
Thank you Sir.
sometimes he uses some really wierd tunings like drop c or b, so he is just making sure that u r in the right tuning.
you take a normal tuned guitar, e-a-d-g-b-e , then d-tune it
d-a-d-g-b-e and then you tune the whole guitar 1 step down: c-g-c-f-a-d ( is this right? I hope).
voilá: drop c tuning.
in metal you often do this because it sounds bigger and heavyer.
hope it helped
cpt.
I'm not gay but I love you zakk!I love your way to play guitar!
he said its a whole step down tuning, but than also a drop d. which is basically a drop C
it makes me laugh the way he talk.. haha! zakk you're the man!
Agreed. It was BADASS!!
This is as close as you can get to hair on with out ever doing it.
Great song play it again.
i play it in (C) that's usually his tuning in most of his songs.
Jesus Christ, his tone is great here.
Funny he says, 'definite Black Sabbath influence'... when I first heard this song I thought THIS should be how Sabbath should sound in 2011. Vocals and all..
2:34 oh my god what a fucking awesome sound dude
@willbesniping he clearly says two d strings, DADGBE thats drop D
Tone is FUCKING BEASTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He said E to a D, two D strings.....the song is a full step down, the guy who wrote the song, just said it.
This opening riff is very similar to "No more Tears" riff, chops are different. I got to say though one my favorite BLS riffs has got to be Crazy horse.
he actually does use the rotovibe quite often.
actually, it's Drop C.
DADF#AD is Open D
what you described is a guitar tuned a whole step down, not open D.
Limp bizkit still sucks
Dude Zakk is fucking jacked. Like body builder jacked. Look at his arm. I mean that in the straightest way possible.
I love this guy guitar skills. Is he still playing for Ozzy?
@mturquie those little micro stacks kill it, get the mxr zakk wylde overdrive or the boss sd-1 and throw it out front of it with some hot pickups and its brutal
lol guys ur doing it wrong, it says 2 D strings, BUTT its a whole step down tuning so it goes to C G C F A D (drop C), so yeah there are 2 "D" strings, but tuned to C. hope u get it now xF!
Actually Zakk switched his pedal setup. Originally he used a few boss pedals and a few mxr/dunlop. Now he really only uses Mxr/Dunlop
I cant tell if he has the chorus on or not for the verse, 3:21-3:33 . do you guys know? it is so hard to make that sound good.
@samonmanify It's de Mxr Stereo Chorus
@Dux40k
What makes you a "true metalhead"?
What are the other two pedals he has there, the white and yellow ones? Anyone know?
I don't get it, in Guitar Pro there is a different way to play this (kinda difficult).
But when I play this version, it just sounds wierd (with DROP D tuning)
Is he playing the low E and the fifth string together, or JUST THE LOW E........ HELP!!!
I'm new at guitar playing so bare with me.
Zakk is back in action he just had to take blood thinners for the rest of his life.... although I thought the beer would of taken care of that.
Im not sure, but he was friend with Dimebag for sure :)
what's the name of this DVD? can I get it somewhere?
@Dux40k very, very true!
thanks man
"you know"
@gmt87801 Actually is Drop D man
his tone is beastly in this vid. somewhere along the line it got pretty muddy. Anyways hope to hear a new album from Zakk and the BLS crew, shame Craig left.
@exeter13 no. its drop d. its drop c if he is a full step down. and he aint.
@metalbonicks i think that is the same vibe
Flinstone Chewables are awesome...
LMAO The flinstone chewables
flintstones chewables hehe zakks awesome
its in c, i play along with it in c and it sound identical
can't everyone just Listen and watch the video without arguing about something mean really I do get the whole concept of expression your own thoughts and opinions but really its over rated doesnt really sholve anything..... Awesome Video Kick ass Song Bad Ass Band
