Wow, Harley Benton even produces its own drum and base sounds. Fantastic!
Thanks again for another good and very entertaining review Henning. This is a great 'do everything' guitar, especially for those of us who like classic & vintage looking Les Pauls & P90 pups. I particuarly like the classic 70's rock tones that this axe does. Fantastic guitar for it's price and absolutely nothing wrong here with those P90's being ceramic, they can really rock. Wow, this guitar is great.
finally someone on the tube that’s not biased by the cost of this guitars! Great review, Thanks!
very good Harley, your review always amazes me, very laid back, just like in the living room like most of us do, well done. Cheers from the Philippines :)
Hi there, thanks for your videos, well produced and detailed.
parents got this model for me as a gift! Love it! It's a versatile guitar for the price.
10/10 as usual. Top man
thanks for all your reviews, helped me a lot, they are fun to watch and to listen to. good job !
martin huba Thank You !!!!
EytschPi42 you are welcome, btw, I heard you said "mahogany sound/tone" few times, but according to the thomann specs the guitar is made out of basswood (linde), maple (ahorn) neck and rosewood (palisander)... (?)
This one is probably the best guitar I ever had. I play it ten times more than my costly guitars.
Same here my friend. 😉
Cool. Tempting to buy...
Another great video. Thanks.
great review, I think that the Suhr set does the job too ;)
I have two HB guitars. One LP, one Strat. I need this guitar!
Another one that i'll purchase in a short future, i always wanted to have a Gold Top.
First of all Henning, your vids are great, they make me laugh and inform me at the same time. I have bought the Brian May type guitar you featured in the 9 guitar vid (using your link) so I hope you get your points! It had a few set up issues but now it plays great but as in your vid, getting good sounds with the phase switches was a problem. I think some combinations will be unusable but there are plenty of good tones to spare. Keep up the good work and I wish you all success.
+Christopher Jeneson Thanks.... I JUST produced a track with that guitar for a demo..... 5 minutes ago!
Sounds pretty good!👍👍😎
Fantastic guitar !
That first song was awesome!
Hi Henning, from rainy Northern Ireland. You, my friend are going t cost me a fortune. I have a Harley Benton TE-40 & love it, it cost me less than £100 & when I took it to a guy to set it up properly, he couldn't believe the quality & ordered one himself! The SC-450 is another on my list, along with an SC Custom. It's all your fault I found out about Harley Benton guitars, so I am holding you responsible for the grief I will get from my wife. This was a great review & I have a fever is a great track.I also bought Harley Benton British Sound, Digital Delay & Compressor pedals after your reviews.Keep it up, your reviews are informative & fun.
wives are disposable. its only a matter of time till she takes everything from you. why do you think they all want to get married. free house, free car, free money. womem are near worthless.
Oh dear John! Sounds like you have a personal axe to grind. Wives, and husbands alike, are just like guitars you just need to find the right one.
@@ashleyelmaya4292 Absolutely true!
Bin zufällig auch an eine gekommen dachte mir ach komm probierst mal aus... wow... is die geil... Meine Tokai oder die gibson SG mit p90 sind nicht so weit weg... geiles teil die darf bleiben...
Sounds great !
Luc Schwarz Thanks !
first of all, i love your videos. and orderd this guitar through your link, so you can keep yours 😎😎, thanx for all the effort. ps are you really German? because you are funny.. strange combo 😎😁😂😉
PS: I just read on the Thomann site that the body is made out of basswood and the neck out of maple. Since basswood is much cheaper than mahogany, it's very well possible that it's a two part body.
Ok fair enough, thanks for your reply.
Crazy nice sound.. I was going to maybe put a P90 into my strat but at this price I might as well buy a whole guitar
If ya want a p90 in your strat do it. It sounds great. Dont expect it to sound like a les paul type guitar with a p90 though and vice versa... they will be 2 totally different animals.
or buy this guitar and take the p90s and put em on your strat
Hey Pauly!
I'm a big fan of yours here in Mexico, I'm already studying with your blues lessons and first of all, I would like to thank you because thanks to those lessons, I have improved a lot in my technique :)
I really want a good guitar that uses p'90 pickups and I believe this HB Les Paul type guitar is a great choice but, do you know what can I do for Thomann send me one of this to my country? I would really appreciate your help.
I thank you for all the reviews and lessons you do because they're awesome, please forgive me for my bad english ;)
Greetings from Mexico City and keep rocking man!!
I don't get the goldtop thing too but this is a great guitar for the money! Why can't it be cherry sunburst!! it seems to be the traditional thingy to do for the copyists, when a Les Paul type guitar is loaded with P-90s, it's almost the law to do the holy grail of guitars, the "56 Goldtop" I think, just before the humbuckers came in.
Big fan of yours Henning! Learnt a lot from you. Great sense of humour, and also you really know what you are talking about, a great authority on everything guitar related!
Nice hot pickups, sounds great without the pedals.
Great video and videos on your channel.
I have been looking for an epiphone special with the p 90 pickups but hard to find here in Europe (Denmark) and I don't have the money to get an epiphone les paul junior.
Would this Harley Benton be a very good alternative to my wishes?
It's not in stick at the moment I see at thomann.de (the gold top) the red is sold out? ((
Keep on rocking and bluesing and jazzing your channel
Brian
Great videos Man, and great guitars, can you help whit the pickup height whit p90? Grettings from spain
Great format - informative, amusing, self-effacing :-) BTW it's great to see that you, like me in my review, think that neck position P90 sound is awesome. I don't have your experience but I was struck by how good it sounded!
Me too. The neck pickup is always the best on Les Paul guitars. How is the HB GT P90? I have played the Epiphone version of it in my local music store cause I can't drive to Thomann and play the HB. I totally loved it.
hi got my harley benton guitar today looks brill and sounds fantarstic,,, i got it from thomann,,,,,,,, gibson has some thinking to do ,,, because this guitar his a
brill ,,, less paul
Very good done! Incredible guitar for that price.
Hi, great vids! Proves yet again that a lot of the sound comes not just from the guitar but from the fingers, everyone who's slamming cheaper guitars for being no good half the time can't even play. Have you by any chance played the Harley Benton TE-30? It's a telecaster with a maple neck, goes for about 89eu. I'm thinking about getting my hands on it, but unfortunately my only option is shipping it over as I am unable to travel to thomann just for a test drive. If you have played it, how was it? Thanks and keep up the good work, love the channel!
Haha you still must have a fever Henning as you're delirious, or is it hillarious? I enjoyed the review and may order a HB goldtop. Thanks! 😸 edit...I dont expect a reply as this vid is 3 yrs old but I keep watching;cracks me up! 🤟
bought this guitar a couple weeks ago. plays better than my epiphone Studio Deluxe. i just dont really like the new shape of the body
I'm a Fender 25.5 player of old looking for a budget LP guitar. This seems like a great option. They do a slightly more expensive variation with what seems useful upgrades such as a graphite nut, Wilkinson PU's and Grover tuners. Have you tried that guitar and if so do you consider it a better purchase. Love the clips and your playing.
Hi, thanks for all your demos! They are very useful! Actually, for me you are a gifted teacher!
I'm a very big fan of Thomann: I've bought a
Harley Benton TE-40 TBK Deluxe Series for 111€ and i'm super satisfied!! Also I've bought a Harley Benton EX-76 BK Classic Series ... very funny.
I've a question for you: after your demo of this guitar, I'd like to buy a guitar with P90 and I'm cannot decide among the
- Harley Benton TE-90QM Trans Red, (very beautiful but expensive)
- the L-450 P90 Les Paul (you tested but I already have and LP Guitar) and
- the Harley Benton HB JA-60SB Vintage Series (the only type I'm still missing and very cheap...)
Could you give me some advice?
Thanks in advance!
Ciao,
Stefano
Mfg
Dante
Hi again Henning, could you if possible do a revue of the Harley Benton DC-Custom Cherry, Custom line series, the SG shape clone. I would be really interested in your views on this classic shape guitar. Secondly, the track 'I have a fever' is great and if I had a chance to buy it I would, it is my kind of music! Keep up the very good work man!
Is there any difference between the playability of this guitar vs the sc 550?
What about tuners and tuning stability of this guitar?I would like to purchase one but i wonder if it can stand drop C tunning with thicker strings.
@11:30 "it gets checked for dings it gets checked for dongs" i died laughing lmao
bonjour sil vous plait pouvez vous mettre une video sur un essai guitare pour la sc450+
je voudrai acheter cette guitare mes jaimerai beaucoup voir un essai avan merci beaucoup
Not sure im doing the right thing ordered this and should have it just after xmas...., ordered some irongear platinum 90s to see if its any different apparently the bridge on the hb is low, we shall see. And next month hoping to buy a dusenburg II for it
Do you know the difference between this old model and the new?? i have bought last week a SC 450 GT P90,but at first look this old model seems better built better material guitar
I know this is an old video, but I'm the gift that keeps on giving. : )
DId they change the horn on these guitars???
On the HBs Ive seen lately, the cut-out seems more scooped and pointy like an ESP/LTD.
Anyone? Curious minds like mine want to know.
Thanks
Based entirely on my own research:
They did change the horn, when, not sure - only found these a month ago. It swoops more, I kinda like it
The ESP-ish guitar exists, it's a separate line.
Search Thomann
@11:36 I have a HB TE30 and it will only work with Fender cables and not Neutrik Silent.......strange but true.
Hi!! Nice video man!!
I've been looking for imformation of this guitar that looks so good. I'm thinking on buy this guitar, but I have a question, those pickups what kind of P-90 are?
Because I'm searching for a rockabilly style sound and I dont know if this guitar have the twang of some P-90, like classic models of the gibson les paul. Im talking of the classic sound of Elvis guitar or similar to the Gretsch guitar sound.
Problem is ya described very different guitars and sounds. If ya want exact classic alnico p90 sound, ceramics p 90s wont do nor will filtertrons like in the old gretschs. A pickup cant make your guitar into something it's not, nor will one pickup ever replicate all the different sounds you mentioned. Burton's tele had a very different sound than Perkins' strat, and neither will get ya setzers' sound. There simply isnt one single guitar/ pickup that will get all of those sounds.
Is the link correct? Look at the tuners?
I would like to know if the pickups are hum cancelling in the middle position. That's kind of important!
They do
Just wondering if you have done a review on the newer Harley Benton SC-450 P90 GT Classic Series?
Same guitar...
@@martijnvandenakker9635 almost
In that first song - I might be wrong, here, but - I think that bloke had a fever.
Star Man * 🤣😆😂🤣😅🤣😂😆 Fever !
Nice, but is it heavy?
This is 6 years old, please update. HB has changed to Roswell PUPs and I think the color of the back has Unfortunately changed.
The shape has drastically changed
Ive got one of these. I also have £2000 guitars. I play this one all the time. I can’t put it down. It’s a 10th of the price. I’m not sure what to think about that. I keep thinking I should go buy the real one but then.. why this sounds f*cking 👍.
Hey man im thinking of getting one of this, but unfortunately i cant try them out before buying them... Can you say how this guitars compare to their squier/epiphone counterparts?
***** I would definitely stay away from Epiphone... in any price range. In THIS price range there is really no alternative to this guitar !
Tell me, is that the one?
Is the body a single piece of basswood? Thomann site says body is basswood.
For that price you don't get ANYTHING single piece... but you are right, it is Basswood... I was wrong about the Mahogany... I just assumed... stupid me !
Still sounds pretty dam good tho.. crazy how cheap they are!
***** the L450plus has a mahogany body...
TheGuitarChannel, just what I was asking myself ... the German Thoman page was showing specs "Linde" for the body wood, which is not excatly what we translate to "Mahogany" imho :D
you are totally right! I did not read the description and just assumed it is mahagony.... stupid me!
As I can't go to Thomas cause its too far I visited just music today and played some of the epiphone equivalents of the harley bentons. The Les Paul Standard Pro was just like my L-450Plus that I recently bought, I just wanted to see whether the price is giving you anything better. But the Epi was horribly manufactured, ugly binding, wiggly toggle switch, the knobs were uneven the wood was shit and the maple top looked like alder. I'm so glad I have my HB. I decided to play the Epi gold top P90 version though, just to see whether P90's are something for me and I immediately fell in love with them. The same day the HB GT P90 came back to the Thomas store. Does the HB GT P90 sound just as good as any other P90 Les paul or are there some differences. Cause if it sounds as nice and bluesy and the guitar I played in the shop and am so gonna buy it as soon as its available.
pikherz Tough to say... the HB is basswood and not mahogany... BUT bottom line: It is a great guitar for an insane price and I am having a lot of fun with it... and I do have a lot of expensive guitars... the P90 HB is just great!
First of all, awesome videos dude! Those Harley Benton guitars are really good for the price. I wanted to ask you something. I read a comment on another UA-cam video, stating that the Harley Benton Les Paul style guitars are not produced with the exact Gibson Les Paul dimensions anymore. Is that true? If yes, why that happened? Thanks in advance.
The improved them, did their own thing... they are really great now!
Yes they should bring back the classic les paul shape, they were beautiful and cheap, Now they sound great and look like shit...EytschPi42 please tell them to bring back the classic shape :'(
Likely copywrite issues
Hey dude... your track doesnt work anymore? I just love that track! Can you help me? If you want i can pay for it! By the way, nice job!
Henning..... Is the guitar you can buy today essentially the same as the one you reviewed here all these years ago?
Tempissed it’s even better
Did you need to do many adjustments before playing it? Im only concerned with the fret buzz on cheap guitars which is caused by uneven frets.
I measured the frets... completely level! I adjusted NOTHING on those guitars!
Henning Pauly I would prefer not to believe you Henning :) because for that price I would most certainly expect to spend money on fret work :) But after seeing several of your vids I certainly believe what you say. Good man! Im choosing between the L-450 Plus and this P-90, still undecided ... which one would you go for if you had to choose? Im after Rock-Blues sounds. Greetings from Denmark!
Cheguebuddha Personally, i would go for the P90 for rock and blues... love that guitar.... in case you get a "bad" one, just send back and order another one... I am sure there are a few that are not perfect....
Henning Pauly Wow. That's interesting. Mine required a full fret level and action adjustments at nut and bridge... but once done, I love it. No matter how good it is (or how good that neck P90 sounds) people will still insist this is a rubbish guitar because it's not a Gibson and because it was made in the Far East by an unknown manufacturer...
Many many Harley Benton guitars have been returned by clients because of faults on the guitar, so Im sure they do not checkout every guitar they send out.
sound at 16:00
New subscriber here in La..i just order one like that and cant wait to play it...thanks buds..can u send me the link to download the one u play...thanks and have a happy life all the way to the end...thanks
how was it?
Sorry man, I like the Harley Benton's sound but I have a doubt: Which is better, Harley Benton L-459 Plus (148 E) or Epiphone Slash AFD LP (168 E)? I'm a beginner.
I think I can say that I am 100% certain that the Harley Benton is a much better guitar!
EytschPi42 Thanks dude, I appreciate it ;-)
OH sorry, the one I purchased was a tangerine 450sc GT P90.
Luckily they improved on it with the newer SC-450 with better tuners and inlays, better wood, arched top. Yes, it costs more too.
Not much more. I paid $125
No mahogany but basswood body and mapple neck !
You guys should form a band
For those that watch this and DO NOT KNOW WHY, explain why you use a mic on the speaker.
Video starts at 5:54
Someone was saying that to avoid litigation, the newer models won't have the usual Gibson body shape, but that horrible Chibson body. I sent 2 emails asking about this to Thomann, and they refuse to respond. What have you heard? Thanks!
possible... not sure... but the slightly different shape is fine and the neck joint is better... great guitars
After purchasing 2 HB LP copies, I've found the new neck joint at the body makes it soooo much easier to play the higher registers compared to the old style.
A goldtop grows on you.
Mahogany sound? I think those are basswood. I was looking at that today. Maybe they changed woods? Anyway, an electric guitar sounds like its pickups and you...an a rack of expensive amps xD
Where can you get this guitar? Its not available at Thomann anymore...
I asked them... more are on the way....
EytschPi42 My current list of guitars I want to buy is:
L-450Plus CB
ST-62 VW
E-35 VR
TE-52 NA
I wonder whether the GT P90 is good for blues too. Its kinda hard to estimate listening to those yt vids. Whattya think?
EytschPi42 Which Harley Benton Telecaster is the best in your opinion. I know you maybe haven't played them all but which one but be the best for blues and such?
Hi, have been watching a load of your videos recently I really like them. I own a Les Paul Standard and you are making me curious about Harley Benton. "" BUT"" why all the equipment that is not realistic for such a guitar. Just guitar and amp to show if they are any good.
My guess is because computers dont do the greatest job of capturing the sound of the room, so ya often use outboard gear to try to compensate. It's more just a production thing so that the person at home on puter speakers can hear close to what ya would actually hear in the room with just a guitar and amp. The vid gives ya enough to be able to tell how it responds to playing dynamics and the volume knob, and gives ya an idea of playability as well as the character of the pickups, which is what ya really need to know when considering a guitar.
@@rowdyjohnson6026 still, all that equipment wasted on P90s, just add different flavors of mud
@@camilo1455 not wasted at all.... it's not to cover em up or to change them... it's to fix what the vid recording process changes so the listener can hear what it actually sounds like in the room, and this is done regardless of the pups in a guitar. The recording process and digital format are the issue, not the guitar or its pups. The extra gear is to give you the sound he hears in the room.
who is the singer on the opening 'fever' song?
alex fröse
Thank you...he sounds a bit like Zachary Stevens from Savatage, who is incredible too....Except haven't heard songs from him in a long time
FYI I played mine through a modded Vox VT20+ and it killed. $240 dollar guitar + $240 amp equals gig worthy rig.
hi ! great channel. can i upload some of your songs to youtube and share it?
+blindmansgoggles i just found out they are allready there
nice review but this is not a mahogany guitar , it has basswood body maple neck as you can see on thomann site
that is probably why it is well painted.
How is the weight compared to the Harley Benton L-450Plus
WUPS.... you are TOTALLY correct... I just assumed.... well... maybe that's why I like it so much... Strat wood... I am a strat guy !
EytschPi42
ahem , strat wood is ash (for me 70s guy) or alder, basswood is asian superstrat wood :D
Do they ship to the United States?
I think they do, but shipping will run you almost half the price of the guitar.... still a good deal...
Unfortunately, the new ones with P90 (on backorder 03.08.2015) are sooo ugly. They look strange to me (especially the cut and the neck).. I wanted that L-450, but SC-450 are disappointing..(
agreed. those p90 look ok on some but not on something pretty.
They sound good though.
Thomann warehouse at the end.
I don't want to piss on anyone's parade but I'm apparently the only one who thinks that this guitar doesn't sound particularly good... You get what you pay for of course, but if you are a little more advanced player than an absolute beginner, I would strongly suggest to spend a couple of hundred more and get yourself a nice, well setup Epiphone, Ibanez, PRS-SE, etc.
Respect though for your elaborate videos. I really enjoy them.
+woodyamsterdam I find it hard to judge an instrument on the Tube due to compression issues and sound quality in general. I live in the sticks with poor bandwidth anyway. Also I think it helps to play through a Suhr!!! Agree though, great videos. Haven't bought an HB yet as I can only play 1 guitar at a time.I miss P90's however so am looking to decide ...
+woodyamsterdam there is a reason you are the only one here talking negative about this guitar, clean your ears
+Che Guebuddha
Well my friend, I'm sorry that you're butthurt because I said something negative about THIS particular model. As a matter of fact I think that the Harley Benton SG models sound great and I am even considering buying one. Nothing wrong with my ears. Best regards, from a fellow home studio owner. (Who also uses budget guitars)
+Che Guebuddha Dial it down a notch or two, chimpy. He didn't say anything nasty or insulting.
youre high. only a negligble difference in sound between the Paul Reed Smith. its a Paul Reed Smith, not a PRS there is a difference
1B 2A 3C
gold tops look good against leather jackets
25:50 more of this
these guitars are cheaper and better the an proper lp
Anyhow, to make a short story long......
if you have 2000€ to buy a suhr preampli, all kind of guitars will be good!
Not true at all..
Man, you are out of tune whole video. Don't take me wrong, I like your videos.
it is not mohogany.
They might use different woods however mine is mahogany,
So you demo'd a budget guitar through the a boutique amp/rack/mic/pedal set up? As if anyone who chooses to buys this guitar is going to be able to achieve this sound!.To make it 'real' why not just play it straight in to an amp of a similar price?
because when you demo things like these, you make sure they are the weakest link, otherwise you couldn't tell which part of the chain is the one that doesn't sound good. this amp is very honest, more than a cheap one... a bad guitar would sound bad through it... a cheap amp can mask the faults of a bad guitar... it makes total sense.
No, no it doesn't, a person who would buy one of these, is most likely not going to have expensive equipment. I can't sing, give me some a U87, a decent pre-amp, some reverb and delay, a touch of auto-tune and even I sound good , but in fact, am a shit singer, you can polish a turd.
@@lapaz62 it's meant to show that if you buy this guitar and your sound sucks, it's not the guitar's fault. If your amp sucks, it just sucks; no guitar is going to make it sound any better, so who the fuck cares what it sounds like through a shit amp? It's going to sound like shit. Fucking duh.
I purchased this guitar some years ago and the jack also broke very soon. Soldered a new one in. It’s doing fine for playing Lenny Kravitz or Doobie Brothers in my cover band. In quality it is better than my first guitar which was a Pearl SG copy, but don’t expect too much. It is certainly not comparable to a „real“ Gibson … but it’s absolutely an ok guitar. Sorry Glenn. 😢
Why is this out of production??? We don't like SC-450!!! Give us back this model!!!
They have them again, just ordered one...$180 total with conversion rates and shipping to Illinois.
love that jazzy part ua-cam.com/video/q-wJ3itYbpI/v-deo.html!
