- Billy Arnold's Novelty Band play "Left Alone Again Blues". Nice early "Dixieland" style side by this American band, recorded in London not long after the Original Dixieland Jazz Band's better known 12 inch Columbia recordings (this is a 10 inch record). The influence of the ODJB is clear.
BILLY ARNOLD'S NOVELTY BAND

Recorded in London, c. December 13, 1920

ODJB plus Harry Lauder, clear as a bell! Swanee River (maybe Jolson!) and Annie Laurie, plus O Where, Tell me Where has my Heilan Laddie Gone (Lauder). All from the recorded environment. Soon the players would reduce the ragtime tropes, I'm sure with distinction. Great stuff!
Hi incredible sound honestly what program or how are you restoring this recordings to such high-quality uploads hope it makes sense
Hi, thank you for your comment about the sound quality. I use a number of software programs, as well as various pre-amps, and a wide choice of stylus types. I have been restoring recordings for over 30 years. I try to keep things as simple as possible and leave enough "air" on the higher frequencies so that the original studio ambience is retained. I also do carry out some re-equalisation if there are weak spots across the frequency range that require alteration, though there is a limit with how far one can go. You have to respect the original recordings and the original recording engineers.
