    Thanks pal, I've been searching for a video like this for a while and you've given me all I wanted. I bought a bobcat from blacks for £89 and have used it twice. suddenly, without searching, YT videos started popping up. Of all of them this is the one I needed the most. Again, thanks and happy camping.

      Hi Gary 👋 cheers for that! Yeah it’s an effective wee mod. Don’t put too much tension on the extra pull outs, their purpose is just to keep the fly away from the inner, not to give the whole tent extra rigidity against the wind if you know what I mean? Anyway thanks again man and enjoy!! 👌🏻

    Thanks for your input. If someone doesn’t have the OEx Bobcat 1 they may not know what you’re doing and why. They see you doing something w the outside of the tent but really you’re trying to fix the inside of the tent. You’re pulling the fly part of the tent out because the rain fly presses on the inner tent and may, in some cases, cause the inner tent to sag down onto your face which can be annoying. However, I’am older and so tired at the end of the day that I would probably sleep through it. But, yeah, owning the Bobcat 1 have noticed there is an inner swag. Thanks for your fix it. You’re a handy fellow, as we say.😊

      @campingcaledonia76  8 місяців тому

      Hi Paul thanks for looking in and taking the time to comment. I am sure I put the tie out on so that the sharpie mark was just hidden by the top of the triangle, but it's more important that it's centred left to right than up or down - so that the mark is in the centre of the tie out. The crucial bit though is the contact - a good press down standing on it and make sure to then leave it alone, weighted down for a good 15 hours 👍

    • @campingcaledonia76
      @campingcaledonia76  8 місяців тому +1

      I’m not too sure, do you think that might be better? My thinking for these tie outs was not really for them to add structural rigidity to the tent as a whole against the wind, more just as a mechanism to pull the fly out away from the inner - I never over-tighten them, I think a few people have and the tie outs failed. Thanks for tuning in and let me know how you get on with the mod 😊👌🏻

    • @w01feyes
      @w01feyes 8 місяців тому +1

      @@campingcaledonia76 Ah if it's just for tension and not structural rigidity it probably wouldn't make much of a difference. It only came to mind because I use tarps a lot, and the material 'likes' the tension to travel in the same direction as the tie-out point. Makes for more taut material. Thanks again!

      I’ve only ever bought em from WSG but if you hit google with ‘self adhesive tie outs’ you’ll maybe find something? Bear in mind though I’ve only ever used the WSG ones so they’re the only ones I’ve tested in action. Email WSG to see when they’re back in stock? Cheers! 👍🏻

    Can you tell me if the mods are still holding up on the sil nylon?

    • @campingcaledonia76
      @campingcaledonia76  11 місяців тому +1

      Yeah still going strong - not used the bobcat since February to be fair tho fella and I misspoke when I said nylon, the Bobcat is polyester but the same craic applies. See if you weigh it down after affixing and leave for 15+ hours it should be good 👍🏻

      Brilliant had the tags for a while but seen a video with them failing in wind and rain, did think maybe they hadn't been left long enough. Thanks for the reply👍

      No worries. If you’re gonna do the mods make sure to do the standing on them with books bit and leave a weight on them for a good 12 to 15hrs! All the best 👍🏻

    Oex make the best. I couldn't imagine buying a Hilleberg for £500 and that one tent lasting longer than my Bobcat and Rakoon that cost me £70 and £90 respectively.
    Tents rip on stone beaches, they get burned from campfires, they get ripped having to shove them in a bag quickly when running away from a farmer.
    Completely the opposite of "Sam Vimes "Boots" theory of socioeconomic unfairness" ..... Why spend £500 on a tent that will last year 3 years. When you can buy a £100 that will last you for 2 years.

      I’ve never been able to bring myself to whack north of £200 on a tent. There are tents available that do the job that I need doing, without breaking the bank. I dare say if the ‘perfect’ tent that ticks all the boxes for me became available I’d be tempted to spend a bit more but the tents I have at present do what I need. Thanks for watching my video and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment 🙂

    A good solution to a badly designed tent, looking for a new tent and so far nothing cheap or expensive really stands up to my mountain equipment backcountry 2, guess i'm a bit spoilt by it, but it does show how good a tent can be tho

      Cheers for looking in 👍🏻 - The Mountain Equipment tent is not one I’m aware of Steven. I know their gear is quality though. What is it that ticks the boxes with it for you? Do you have a link to any info on it? Cheers.

    I tried this. Followed the instructions carefully and then took the tent out in the recent hot weather. Both tie-on points came unglued.

      Yes - by 10am it was into the mid-20s. I'm sure it would work fine if they were sewn on. Cracking tent, anyway.Very pleased with it@@campingcaledonia76

      That’s hot right enough! I’m guessing the glue melted a wee bit. Aye I was trying to avoid any stitching on that mod. It’s maybe only good for Scottish summers 😆 Thanks @brianferris687👌🏻

    Instead of having three guy lines and pegs why not rig it the same as the end of an akto so that you only need two pegs 😊

    • @campingcaledonia76
      @campingcaledonia76  Рік тому +1

      Hi David. I just had a look at an Akto review on YT to remind myself how the ends are rigged and you’re right that looks like it would work! 🙂 Will maybe have a go at that next time I’m out with the Bobcat. Cheers 👍🏻

      Thanks for watching 🙂 So many tents out there. I find that it’s very much subjective as to what tents are ‘better’ than others. Price is certainly a consideration you’re right but certain tents are more appropriate for certain requirements/uses/locations/pitching styles etc etc 👍🏻
