THANK YOU for adding MAMAMOO!! I so appreciate someone seeing Mamamoo as a group who's choreo is amazing too :) When people usually do choreo topics, Mamamoo isn't usually brought up, because their choreo at the beginning wasn't as intricate (but it was still really good), but that was because they always sang live (and still do), and their vocals came first. They started doing more intricate choreo starting with HIP because people were saying Mamamoo couldn't dance. Which they had been doing since they started, so it was just jealousy rearing it's ugly head, but Mamamoo proved them wrong with more intricate choreographies, and still sang live to top it off!
AHHH I LOVE THIS I saw them live and they were absolutely amazing!!! They are definitely one of my ults and the amount of talent they have is insane!!!
I saw them live too! (In Atlanta) and they were SPECTACULAR! They are my Alt Bias Group, as well as Hwa Sa being my Ult Bias in everything! They are the group that started me listening to kpop, (since 2019)and they are STILL the best there is!@@DiceyBrycie
I think the reason (G)I-DLE does the tiktokfication of the chorus is because they aren't known as a dance-focused group, so the only way for them to maintain relevance regarding the dance aspect of kpop is this Could be wrong tho
aespa girls was so blatantly obvious, that move is so awkward as well like WHYYY are they just raising a leg and twisting their wrists.. while rock handing.. and giving a slight bounce??
I know there are still enough groups with complicated choreography, but kinda miss those times when formations were trendy. Yeah it's not for challenges and if members go on hiatus or even leave the group... the "tree of life" definitely becomes less lively!
Finally! Every group under hybe labels makes songs for the sake of virality!!! From the lyrics, composition, to the choreography. They're all meant to cater for people with short attention span!! This is why they're famous, because the songs they release is meant for the general public. In short, an easy sounding/generic pop song in order to play it safe so their groups can be famous & chase that billion dollar dream.
I don’t think they were “tiktokified”. The dances in back in the day (2nd gen groups, some 3rd gen up to probably 2017ish) were a range of difficulty level, and there were songs that had what some would call simple choreo or even with trendy chorus pieces wtv. Basically, dances have always been like this and they’re pretty much going back to that possibly for the artists’ sake but yes also because of the catchy trendy movements (the “point” dances/moves). They always have been focused on having dances with a good point move (an example like today would be IVE’s Love Dive; but everyone wants their ‘Tell Me’, ‘Gee’, ‘Shake It’, or ‘Sorry Sorry’ moment - and the list goes on). I think that never changed. What I think happened is that K-pop fans, especially new ones who haven’t looked too much into older groups or even ‘nugu’ groups, have gotten too used to the trend of extremely hard choreography (or more active choreography wtv) to the point that any simplifications are just boring and under stimulating to them. There has always been a mix, I just think those fans are starting to realize or see it lol. Meanwhile on the other hand, some people are enjoying the fact that simple choreography is back and they can participate in covers (or TikTok challenges now/again). Anyway, I like both and I’m glad to see the return of it. One is nostalgic being a fan of 2nd gen+ songs and choreo, the others are good workouts lol. Hope they can find a balanced mix and if not big groups, there’s always little ones who might. 🩷
I literally hate Hard choreography 😭 Like they be jumping, on the floor, side to side, running, walking, head movements and literally everything that makes singing hard 💀. Like why even bother making such a hard choreography when idols are also supposed to sing in a stable voice? Everytime they run out of breath and get hate for it. And I know Kpop idols are trained for singing stable and dancing at the same time but sometimes its just hard.
Not all difficult dance choreos involve jumping and running. Red Velvet's be natural and Hyolyn's dally have extremely difficult dance choreos but they don't involve jumping and spinning as seen in Itzy or Nmixx
Good choreography does not equal intense choreography! Salty and Sweet by Aespa, Mr. Vampire by Itzy, and Do not Touch by Misamo are all incredible pieces of choreography -- none of which would be considered "hard"! Tiktok is ruining the quality of dances not the intensity
@@DiceyBrycie Yeah the other choreography is good but Le sserafim Easy choreo is kinda hard. They be doing a lot of steps during chorus which ruins the stability!
I don't know where I saw this but i'm pretty sure that lisa said herself that she wanted to have a easier dance for lalisa so the fans could have learned that easly
I literally just thought this watching the choreo to BoA's new song compared to all the dancing I've seen her do in the past. I prob would've noticed sooner if i was more into 3rd and 4th gen (started with BoA back around '01 and also big into 2nd Gen WG and 2NE1, aside from many other less popular 1st/2nd gen artists)
I've never been into K-pop tiktok dances 💁♀️ i like the fact that we can get interactions between idols through that, but K-pop is officially losing its meaning. To some extent, those strict rules had kept K-pop together, not that i am saying dating ban and starvation should be done. There were a few rules that had kept it together. Now kpop has become westernised, just as it is becoming more and more relevant we see the original K-pop drifting away. But what's the point of those tiktok interactions when they'll act like complete strangers afterwards anyway? We didnt have this thing in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen, though we got interactions friendships and many more bonds. On the other hand, locals got a taste of their hate, they had to gulp down the fact that they've been dancing and vibing to kpop, but i also see some ruining the choreos for me. I don't want to see that. Some of these Tiktokers use the same dance moves gain and again and in kpop songs it kind of checks off the vibe for me. I would still prefer to go back to those old times but change is important. Good thing or bad, we somehow saw it coming and if we didn't atleast we know what the futhre might have for us.
everyone saying “agh oh no, this is so for tiktok🤮” are the same that then criticize the companies for not promoting groups on socials and stuff 😂 Socials are the main source of promotion for everything guys!
I think choreo was always a way of promotion it just got worst with tiktok and this affected only the groups that are known for their choreo u don’t see the same thing with bts in exemple

I kinda get your point, but consider that kpop has always had simpler choruses and capitalised on choreos going viral. The best example is Gangnam Style
Super shy’s middle chorus is known for being so much easier than the first chorus. The difficulty rankings go from 6/10- first chorus (Straight arms, pretty intense, a lot of popping and force applied in certain areas) 8/10- prechorus (Waacking everywhere, super intense, slight pivots) 2/10- second chorus (Straight arms, light force, repeated moves, barely any leg movement, simple waacking and hip movements)
@@abcdoooabcdI’m a dancer so it’s more of my personal perspective on a company forcing the choreographer to alter their original art to fit a promotional standard - it’s the same thing with marvel overseeing the directing of their movies so much so that they don’t allow the natural art to shine 😅 like I said in my video it isn’t a problem case-by-case but it’s kinda sad when you don’t see many dances look authentic within kpop 🤷♂️
I don't think so. Just because a dance goes viral doesn't mean it was made for TikTok. Take for example Hype Boy, one of their most viral dances to date. It is neither front facing nor repetitive nor any of the other criteria companies try to meet to make a "Tick-Tock-able" dance in the chorus section. Super Shy has tons of formation changes in it's chorus, ditto is once again everything but stationary with it's formations, as is OMG, ETA and Cool With You. Attention has lot's of formation and level changes, etc. NewJeans are simply insanely popular and people love their dances, specifically because they are NOT typical TikTok dances.
@@youlikethischainthreedolla8498 sorry. But no. Some of the groups mentioned here have formations in their dances too yet, they were listed here. New jeans make use of overly simplistic dance styles, steps and themes with short songs that ARE for tiktok.
@@Gasmaya Bruh, doesn't matter if a GROUP has changes formation in other songs, this is about very specific ones (See for example Itzy who had super integrate choreos during debut but also put out stuff like Cheshire which is clearly a chorus made for TikTok (ie, all front facing, no significant changes in position, literally no foot work, simple arm movements etc.). And besides an argument you could make for Super Shy I do not see that in NewJeans. And even that is all but a simple choreo (looking at the prechorus here). I agree that their songs are too short, it is a change that TikTok has made for sure in kpop and music in general, but that has nothing to do with the choreo lmao. I am only talking about dancing here, which is what the discussion here is about.

@@gamesong6600 as they mentioned in the video choreos lack consistency through the song and focus on selling the chorus, is not about the companionship and harmony. If that were the many focus, groups literally wouldn’t have to change a thing, if you have been following kpop for years you can probably have seen that long ago the magic and traction of kpop was the choreos since there was a big wave of dance cover channels covering the songs and they were exciting and entertaining to watch, now try to watch a dance cover in public and tell me you don’t get bored and doesn’t look bland (this is not to offend any of the dance groups, im just trying to explain my opinion). Not complaining tho, it's still fun to watch the challenge and after all, it's a business and entertainment industries thus they need marketing to be able to profit, it's a strategy. It's just simply globalization and KPOP.
we blame tiktok AND hybe
OOMFIEEE!!!
I'm an atiny but the chorus of bouncy felt so tiktokified compared to their previous releases. I hope they go back to releasing more intense and technical choreo because that's why I fell in love with them.
They did intense choreo in chorus this time in crazy form i am so glad
@@fatimamalik5926 more intense than bouncy for sure but compared to halazia or guerrilla its still lower. But im glad the dance breaks are still super intense
@@Silokkes exactly
Twice choreographys are the best it powerfull all throughout for example "dance the night away" or "feel special" or "fancy"
It’s actually sad to see the TikTokification of the music industry, especially K-pop.
I hate looking at Twice's Instagram profile during comeback season because it's always FLOODED with dance challenges like these other groups do it quite a lot but for some reason Twice will overdo their dance challenge every single time.
i literally shit my pants when you said gidle those r my girls😭
It would be great if you did a video essay on itzy’s choreographies like you did with lesserafim and aespa
This is so good! You've clearly done your research. Love the examples you pulled in.
I was hoping someone would make a video on this, if not I was going to. I was drawn to Kpop for the dance I hate the turn choreographies have taken. Kpop did not need tiktok back then why are we catering to it now.
EXACTLY!
as a dancer, i love watching your videos sm
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
I agree i agree i agree i agree i agree
All I have to say is: *YES!!!!!!*
Now time to actually watch the video lol
I think the reason (G)I-DLE does the tiktokfication of the chorus is because they aren't known as a dance-focused group, so the only way for them to maintain relevance regarding the dance aspect of kpop is this
Could be wrong tho
aespa girls was so blatantly obvious, that move is so awkward as well like WHYYY are they just raising a leg and twisting their wrists.. while rock handing.. and giving a slight bounce??
I know there are still enough groups with complicated choreography, but kinda miss those times when formations were trendy. Yeah it's not for challenges and if members go on hiatus or even leave the group... the "tree of life" definitely becomes less lively!
lmao why didn't you use hybe groups as an example when they're all tiktok merchants
I wanted to save that company for a whole other video 😭
I literally hate Hard choreography 😭
Like they be jumping, on the floor, side to side, running, walking, head movements and literally everything that makes singing hard 💀.
@@TryHardLmao i mean they couldn't really do it even without the choreo so...
Good thing or bad, we somehow saw it coming and if we didn't atleast we know what the futhre might have for us.
everyone saying “agh oh no, this is so for tiktok🤮” are the same that then criticize the companies for not promoting groups on socials and stuff 😂
Socials are the main source of promotion for everything guys!
I actually dont care about choreo...if their song is good...i will stand them
gidle's choreos are always perfect #SLAY
Lisa asked for easy choreography tho.
I think choreo was always a way of promotion it just got worst with tiktok and this affected only the groups that are known for their choreo u don’t see the same thing with bts in exemple
Undertale starting vibes
.... that's my phrase? Remember when I gave you the idea and literally said "tiktokification of kpop choreo"?
OMG IM SO SORRY 😭 After you commented that I put “The Tiktokification of Kpop Choreo” in my google docs of video ideas and when I started the script I js completely forgot where I got the idea from and straight up assumed I made it up I SWEAR I WOULDN’T INTENTIONALLY STEAL ANYTHING I credited you in the comments and description to compensate but still I’m sorry
If I make multiple parts I’ll be sure to credit you IN the video
I agree tho
DUH DOY.. we all know the problem.. offer solutions
This is js part 1! 😊
I kinda get your point, but consider that kpop has always had simpler choruses and capitalised on choreos going viral. The best example is Gangnam Style
why is your mic peaking?
Idk 😭 I don’t have a professional mic, so it’s prolly cause of that - did it affect the videos quality?
@@DiceyBrycieNo the video was still very good honestly
@@DiceyBrycieit's just super super loud at low volume
Hm idk why that is tbh 🤷♂️ it’s not like that for me - are you talking about my mic or the whole video?
@@DiceyBrycie your mic the whole video.
Super shy’s middle chorus is known for being so much easier than the first chorus.
The difficulty rankings go from
6/10- first chorus
(Straight arms, pretty intense, a lot of popping and force applied in certain areas)
8/10- prechorus
(Waacking everywhere, super intense, slight pivots)
2/10- second chorus
(Straight arms, light force, repeated moves, barely any leg movement, simple waacking and hip movements)
i thought le sserafims fearless or epabw would be here lul
It's like everyone is getting paid to blame TikTok now....
I love tiktok! I’m moreover js blaming the companies
@@DiceyBryciethey do what it needs to be done to push the song and the artist up in charts so.. why we would blame them its busniess
Well Tiktok is garbage, and deserves all the blame.
You didn't mention Newjeans!!!!!!!?!?!? The leader of tiktok dances. Their choreographies are basically made for tiktok challenges only. Dude.
This video is js part 1! 🫶
@@youlikethischainthreedolla8498 sorry. But no. Some of the groups mentioned here have formations in their dances too yet, they were listed here. New jeans make use of overly simplistic dance styles, steps and themes with short songs that ARE for tiktok.
@@DiceyBrycie ok
I feel like you just made up something to complain about
Complain? I felt like I was pretty neutral throughout
Its not ruined. Things change according to demands of audience new audience wants it and they like it. We may not like it.😅
yes it is ruined, choreos literally makes no sense and looks dumb
@@frenchfriiess Respectfully I disagree. They have a constraint that they need to have a challenge- worthy portion in their routines. Amazing things about such constraints is that they force you to be innovative.
U can write only few words created urban dictionary, u can only write 5 words which rhymes such constraints created poetry.
Change is often not beautiful specially for older people like me, but it's a natural course of life
@@frenchfriiess Also music videos used to have these Hook steps something catchy easy to imitate. People do them at parties, in school functions. I do not see it any different from that.
Kids will do these challenges with their friends and families and they are going to appreciate it more than it actually is. Even if it doesn't have aesthetics people r going to be more fond of it down the line because they created memories.
That's my opinion.🫰
Marketing doesn’t have to revolve tiktok or mainstream. I understand what you are trying to say but i wanted to explain my point of view.
@@frenchfriiess Ur points are valid. I just don't feel pessimistic about it. They r also brainstorming for this new challenge to create something that will go viral and they will get better at it even if at the moment it doesn't seem that way, new talents will come which will be more tuned to the new trends and demands.
Heavy on (G)-Idle 0
Dude tone it down with the editing it lowers the quality of the video with all this flashlight
I'm sorry, I was trying to avoid visual copyright since that's been a huge problem for me, but I definitely see how I went a little overkill (especially at the beginning)! I hope you still found a way to enjoy the video! ❤

Just a random comment, but 5th gen has actually begun last year! Just wanted to point that out, since you said 4th gen is still going on. 😊
