FOR THE LĀHUI E welo mau loa ku’u hae aloha I ka nu’u o ka lewa lani lā a e maluhia No na kau a kau Eo Hawai’i Ku’u ‘āina aloha E ku’u lāhui e Wiwo’ole e Kū kānaka e ‘Onipa’a mau Ua mau ke ea o ka ‘āina I ka pono Ua mau ke ea o ka ‘āna I ka pono My beloved flag waves ever more in the last year’s heights of the sky. Always and forever more in peace and tranquility, Hail your name, oh Hawaii my beloved motherland. To you my nation be bold and fearless, Stand as kānaka, And be steadfast in your place. For the freedom of our land remains always in the truth of our people.
I am from Germany and unfortunatelly I do not understand this beautiful language. But when I was in Maui in 2019 I learned about the plans of building this observatory on sacred land. So also from me: I stand with you - prayers and love for Hawai'i. Mahalo nui for sharing this. Stay strong.
From pictures, to short clips, to beautiful melody... I can hear the cries through them. I am from a small island in the pacific, the tiny island of Palau. We are but a few small voices but we cry with you Hawai'i. We stand with you to protect MaunaKea! Prayers and love from our island! Stay strong Hawai'i! Love and Unity always wins! The world is watching!
I will be honest here, I’m from the mainland, and I do not understand the language. When I tell you this songs melody moved me to tears, it’s 100% true. I am not aware of what struggles your people are facing, but I hope everyone stays strong and keeps on fighting. ✌🏻❤️
The ending of the song last Line means “the light of the land is perpetuated through righteousness” and the title for the lāhui means “for the people” because the protesters of Mauna a waKea are fighting to keep our sacred realm of the gods from being desecrated by the tmt
JustForTheShow215 I didn’t know either but I searched it up and it mean that we are distressed,I live in Hawaii and this is from the little girl but now I’m 9
If see is anyone dat jus commented from big island, can hit me up. Cause I'm planning on coming n giving my support at mauna kea, I'm from Maui hawaii and now living Illinois. Like dey say, I can take da boi from da Island but u can't take da Island from da boi. We always will b Polynesians by koko
I cannot help but to shed some tears to see what our kanaka and kupuna has to go thru but this mele is like food for my soul, we will never give up I say this na kanaka fight for what you believe in and believe what you fighting for and we must All unit as one, Mahalo nui loa josh u'i keia mele
08.22.2019- I am a student in 7th grade that goes to Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Campus, and today we sang this mele, and i felt so uplifted and i felt like i was AT da mauna when i was actually in schools. While hearing myself and my classmates sing this, my heart was warmed by the feeling of OUR lāhui and i felt liek weʻre able to conquer anything in this world, as long as we stand for it, and we stand together. Mahalo nui loa braddah for writing this beautiful mele for everyone and the kiaʻi.
People standing on the front lines protecting their homes and working together amazing polynesians stay strong. Good luck my brothers and sister during this pandemic, stay strong for those around you especially family. I love yallz ofa atu
I'm from Kanaky island, and this song brings me to tears, cause we're living the same sade stories.... but we'll never give up. Stay strong family, as kanakas we're standing as one, Big thanks Josh for this amazing song. Thanks for the words. Mauna kea we're standing with you all.... God bless you all....
This song is so touching and accurate for me to share my feelings...this is a very emotional song to listen nto without crying for the love of who we are.. the Lahui
When they arrested the kupuna that seriously killed me 😢 That day will forever be memorable and all of this seems very familiar to the issues that happened in the south back in the day. We’re being hated on constantly in our own home! We can’t even be Hawaiian in Hawaii without people judging us! No aloha aina from the state, C&C, DHHL, etc. The Mauna, Sherwood’s, Pohakuloa, the list goes on... how much more can they destroy and take all in the sake of greed?!
Mahalo for all the love you bring to us from the bottom of your heart!💞Mahalo nui. You are a true passion to all the hawaiians . You are a true beloved hawaiian.☺👍👊👐👏
It is 2020. As the Coronavirus rages around the World, this beautiful mele reminds us of the importance to hold firm unto our culture and our lands to pass to the next generation to cherish and protect. Ua mau ke ea o ka ‘āna I ka pono! ❤️ Faafetai Josh Mo lenei pese malie! A hui hou! 🇦🇸✝️🇼🇸
Absolutely phenomenal Josh Another awesome mele. The scenes speak volumes but your voice moves all of the people of Hawaii and beyond. Come back and see us on the Big Island. Love you.... Your one and only “Aunty Groupie”....remember me when you flew into Kona from Japan. Gods Blessing always!
From the first time I saw a mainland group from California dance to this song, I fell in love with it. Very few songs grab at my heart like this song does. It makes me sad, it makes me proud to be Kanaka Maoli, it makes me want for independence, there are so many different feelings that go through me when I hear this mele. Mahalo Piha to Josh Tatofi.
1:43 you can feel the pain. I am so disappointed to be from this country. I have always felt from any interaction I had with Polynesian people on my motorcoach that Hawaii was where I was supposed to be because they feel like home. I don’t fully understand the culture but I try and I want to know more. Bruddah iz has always been one of my heroes in life kaleohano along with hawai’i 78 moved me so much. I grew up in a small town in West Virginia that operated very similarly but in a few different ways but has since gone to crap because of a lack of education and not learning from history. I long for a place that matches how it used to be and Hawaii feels like it.
i mean come on my kumu went ahead and taught the wahine this song (my mom) and every time i hear it i think of mauna and i want to cry so much. Josh, this will always be my favorite song
I Mua Kamehameha Aloha Josh I go to Kamehameha schools Hawai’i and it’s fun and I hope your birthday and family are doing better than I thing Mahalo to you ❤️
Every time me and my mom listen to this it jus brings tears to our eyes that ppl have the guts to do this to our Aina like A'ole TMT, kū kai'i Mauna how many times do we have to say it this provides us our life and all there is up there on the Mauna is aloha and we not leaving
Truly beautiful and chicken skin. You feel so many emotions watching this...aloha, mana, chicken skin, pride, but most of all heartbreak. For people watching this who may not understand why this movement is so critical and who may think this is only about a telescope...the guy wearing the baseball hat that says "BROKEN TRU$T" at 0:23 explains it all. If anyone doesn't know the real truth behind what that actually means, I urge you to research Hawai'i's political history and see for yourself how Hawaiian lands were sold off piece by piece to the highest bidder going back hundreds of years and is STILL happening today. This is the tipping point of GENERATIONAL HURT and GENERATIONAL CORRUPTION done to our people for so long, all in the name of money and greed. Everything and everyone has a "breaking point", and for us as Hawaiians THIS IS IT..this is what a breaking point looks like.
I told my boyfriend this is my favorite song, and he say “babe that’s my cuzin” and I was like what the hell freal, he was yeah before he came over the house to sing to papa. I was like he’s gonna have to sing for our wedding someday!!! I just love this song. #tilinistrong
