How can you shave with such blades? In my case they just scratch above the hair doing nothing. I think you should try the Astra Superior Platinum. Or maybe (because your parker doesn't go down to 1 scale) it's some factory defect.
I had to come back and rewatch this one. I’ve never tried that persona blade. You should try a different blade in this closed comb if u have not before. Curious if that would change how it shaves for you. You make it seem like how the Pearl flexi did for me. Horrible & rough as it got. I tried a few blades in the flexi before I gave up.
Hi bro. I already used this variant from parker. I purchased it for nearly five thousand. Its gave a very smooth shave. I used with feather blades long back. Now i used with perama-sharp blades.
@@OhioShaves you're right. I use mine around 1.5 and it's not bad at all. It does lean toward the aggressive side in general, but it should get to the 1 setting. it should be slightly above the Merkur 34C at it's lowest setting. I had an issue with over tightening mine in the beginning and it seemed to mess with the adjusting ring a bit. I backed it off, took the blade out set it to 1, then put the blade back in and tightened everything up and that seemed to fix it.
@Ohio Shaves they're kinda janky. Mine sits just above 1 unless I tighten it real tight. I just started de shaving and didn't realize it was aggressive. My technique might be decent then 😂😂 thanks to you I tossed an astra green in and get great shaves no cuts or nicks although anything above 1 is too much imo

Hmmm. I have a Merkur Progress whose head design reminds me very much of the Parker variant. I find the progress to be extremely aggressive, to the point where I really just don't use it. The variant was on my list of razors to one day purchase, but I think for now I'll just hold off. As a heads up, when you use the 99R, that is certainly on the aggressive side, so be aware. Too much blade feel and too much irritation. I sold it and bought a Weishi Adjustable and its easily ten times better. I use the Weishi at setting 4 or higher if need be and it's just wonderful!
Paused your video and noticed it seems you did not have the alignment marks matched between the top cap and the base . It will cause the adjustment knob to start higher than 1 and seems to make more aggressive as well.
After a long journey of trying to find the best razor for my skin, I have finally settled on the Razorock Game Changer .84. I thought the AL13-M would be my final razor, but the Game Changer swooped in and changed the game. It's a beautifully machined stainless steel razor and only costs $55. I didn't care for the Variant myself, too aggressive for me and it didn't even feel good on the lowest setting. It's a well made razor, just not for me. I guess I like mild/medium razors. Adjustable razors should cover all levels of aggression and this razor does not.
Lol your sediments at the end are so reminiscent of my Pearl flexi experience both tries. Sorry you didn’t like it. I had high hopes for the variant & have almost bought one countless times now. Looks cool & some guys love them.
It’s basically a Merkur 510 with a better knob...and the numbers not lining up is a problem with both of them. I think all the parts are interchangeable.
@OhioShaves another great breakdown of wet shaving products. I gradually go aggressive razor & blades. It helps me to focus later on in my daily routines. I had an Amazon credit & 10% off on the Leaf Twig so I jumped on the opportunity lol.
I have this razor with graphite-colored handle just like you. Mine is 2 years old. It goes to setting 1, it’s also a great shaver, but not for any detail work. I’m thinking yours is defective. It is definitely more aggressive on 1 than a mild-medium razor, but I get great, close shaves from it. Voskhod, Gillette Wilkinson Sword (Blue Pack), Astra Superior Stainless and Gillette 7 O’ Clock SharpEdge (Yellow Pack) all work great with my Variant. I personally think it works great for men with no beards, goatees or mustaches because it’s bulbous head isn’t the best for detail work.
My favorite aggressive razor is the RazoRock Lupo 95 Open Comb. It’s quite aggressive yet very smooth shaving, it has less blade feel than all the GameChanger plates. I can get away with a Nacet in the Lupo, for the GameChanger .84 Open Comb or Jaws plates, I have to jump down to a Treet Platinum, they’re significantly more aggressive(although not more efficient) than the Lupo 95. To sum it all up, the Lupo 95 OC does the same job as the Gamechanger OC/Jaws plates with less cuts, passes & irritation, in my experience.
I have this razor don’t remember it being that aggressive I also have the progress but I like the variant better I’ll have to put it in the rotation and use it again your findings have peaked my interest
@@OhioShaves I have to take blood thinners, so familiarity with one brand helps with safety. Like you, I'd probably find the Parker way too aggressive.
Wow, mine only goes down to 1.5 as well but I never considered it scary or uncomfortable, even at 4 or 5. There must have been something wrong with yours, and I hope they sent you another copy to try.
Wow u sold me right off this variant for sure 😂. In another video they said the variant on 5 is like the Merkur Futur on a 3 so I was interested in the variant. I’ve read so many mixed QC issue about it. As you know I hated the Pearl flexi for being rough on any setting with several brand blades so I returned it. You make this seem on par or worse then the Futur which I know u hated. I’d like you to try it again on lower setting like u did with this variant. The Futur has blade feel for sure but it’s far more efficient then this variant seems. I’ll stick to my plan. Enjoy my 6C & if I want an “thumb wheel adjustable” I’ll just buy a T2. My buddy mirrors what u said. As smooth as the 6C is..the T2 is even better!
I love the Futur on my head with lot's of growth. I also shaved off 30 day's of bread growth last Nov. 22'. It was the only safety razor to manage removing 30 days of growth besides the shavette, that I finished the shave with. I think a review of every adjustable razor I have would be an interesting one for sure.
@@OhioShaves the Futur on #3 plowed down 8 days of beard like it was nothing. It has its place for sure. A battle of the adjustables would be a cool series but you can’t really compare setting 3 on 2 different razors. Better to just offer insights and your likes or dislikes with each razor. Which one has more milder settings etc. If I try a Parker I’ll try the semi slant. I’m crossing the variant off my list. Still in honeymoon stage with the 6C 🤣🤣
I'm definitely going to do a adjustable razor series. But I want to make sure I dial in every razor so I can give a honest review on the benefits of each razor.
This blade is aggressive not compatible with this razor Make it more aggressive this razor need to mild blade Probability that it complies with Astra blade or 7 O'clock
I don’t have a Variant, but I have a Merkur Progress (which is very similar in design). Unfortunately, my Progress is unusable, for much the same reasons you found the Variant disappointing: I can’t really get to setting 1, it’s overly aggressive and (on top of everything else) the blade sits unevenly in the head and there’s nothing I can do to straighten it. I’ve had quality issues with both the Progress and my Merkur 34C. I know others love the razors, but I have found them both to be poorly made products. Bad luck? Probably - but it’s strange that there are quality issues with both razors (bought new at different times from different vendors). Cheers. 👍🪒
Just had a shave with my variant and it continues to amaze. Setting 2 with a gillette platinum is my go to with this one. One thing I have noticed about this razor is you have to get the right angle or it is super aggressive. Once I got it tho, 🧈.

Lol your sediments at the end are so reminiscent of my Pearl flexi experience both tries. Sorry you didn’t like it. I had high hopes for the variant & have almost bought one countless times now. Looks cool & some guys love them.
Thanks for sharing!!
It’s basically a Merkur 510 with a better knob...and the numbers not lining up is a problem with both of them.
I think all the parts are interchangeable.
Good to know
Thanks for your review. Found one on a decent sale but sounds like I’ll be passing
Good to hear your thoughts!
Wait was the head on backwards? I know on the progress there are 2 marks that have to match up
Of course 👍
@OhioShaves another great breakdown of wet shaving products. I gradually go aggressive razor & blades. It helps me to focus later on in my daily routines. I had an Amazon credit & 10% off on the Leaf Twig so I jumped on the opportunity lol.
Great choice
Try holding the top cap after loading the blade before you tighten it.
Will do. Thanks foe the tip😀
My favourite razor. 3-2-1.
💈👍
I have this razor with graphite-colored handle just like you. Mine is 2 years old. It goes to setting 1, it’s also a great shaver, but not for any detail
work.
Thanks James
@@OhioShaves No problem.
Thanks for that. Very informative.
@@OhioShaves You’re welcome sir. 👍
Rotate the top cap 180 degrees and see if this fixes your problem
It’s aligned correctly
I have this razor don’t remember it being that aggressive I also have the progress but I like the variant better I’ll have to put it in the rotation and use it again your findings have peaked my interest
Let me know
Maybe was the blade that was not good sometimes happens
Possible. Why didn't the razor seat on Setting 1? I'm not going to give up on it. I sent them an email yesterday.
@@OhioShaves yeah feels like it’s not going but you can put it with a little bit of effort in one it. Feel restriction but doesn’t break
👌thanks for the help
I stick with what I know and use only Merkurs.
Great
@@OhioShaves I have to take blood thinners, so familiarity with one brand helps with safety. Like you, I'd probably find the Parker way too aggressive.
Wow, mine only goes down to 1.5 as well but I never considered it scary or uncomfortable, even at 4 or 5. There must have been something wrong with yours, and I hope they sent you another copy to try.
They sent me a revised version open comb and I still shaved on setting 1.5. Got a better shave.
Apparently the Open Comb Variant is 'smoother'
Sure is
Hey guy
Ohh my gosh.
I couldn’t use that razor myself there is some mean razors out there.
😂
Naughty beast
I’m going to try some different blades in it.
Yes removed full beard clean shave good
👍
Its too rough, completely unusable for me with any blade
Very aggressive for sure. The revised open comb was very satisfying
Thanks
Tray Lords blades,
I'll keep that in mind next time
@@OhioShaves its for sensitive skin,
Nice
Higher number, with different blade??
👍Agreed
Cheers. 👍🪒
Thank you much for sharing.
Say the best razor 🪒 name to me
It's all personal preference. What's your favorite razor?
Just had a shave with my variant and it continues to amaze. Setting 2 with a gillette platinum is my go to with this one. One thing I have noticed about this razor is you have to get the right angle or it is super aggressive. Once I got it tho, 🧈.
👍
