    I love that you go into details on tricks and recommendations for the install process. The install is likely what holds most people back as a professional install will double the light price, which is already high.
    The house looks great with the lights. One thing that would be great to read/hear is how you decided to place the various types of lights.

      Thanks! I watched a few videos on landscape lighting design. Since I have a brick facade, I want to make sure the light shows the texture of the brick, so I placed the lights closer to the house and pointed them upwards, like light pillars. Some people don't want to or can't afford so many lights, so they put a few further away from the house and then flood the entire front of the house, but I don't think it looks as good. The downside to landscape lighting like this is that you need to figure out the upper parts of the house where the light is blocked, but I'm planning on some other lighting projects for that so stay tuned. It'll proubally be on my other channel though.

    Hey Eric, thank you so much for the video. The front of your home looks amazing. And thank you. You gave me a great idea for my backyard project.

      Awesome! Thank you! Are you going to use Lifx, Hue, Govee, or something else?

      Eric, I’m between LIFX, Govee and Philips Hue. My backyard project has four different sections.

    • @ModernDayTech
      @ModernDayTech  9 місяців тому

      Yeah, it's a hard decision. I went back and forth between LIFX and Philips Hue, and then when I decided on LIFX for sure, I then had to decide whether to use the Philips Hue power sources or a 600W transformer and landscape wiring. If I used the 600W transformer and wiring, I would have to fish the wire under the driveway and walkways, but I went with the Philips Hue power source route because the connections are easier, and it's also easier to install new outdoor electrical boxes on the other side of the driveway and walkway rather trying to fish wires under them. I actually bought two 600W transformers but ended up returning the one you see in the video. I bought a better one that professionals use so if you go the transformer route let me know and I'll be happy to share which one I got cause I did quite a bit of research.

    Just wanted to say thank you very much for this video. We too now have amazing path lights with a much simpler install thanks to you and your well done video. We've had lifx in our house for years and really like them so we were excited when these came out but also were very wary about their cheep as heck attachment. After checking it out as you said in your vid, they do indeed work well with the power adapter and ground lines of the Phillip Hue system which greatly simplified the install. The landscape guy we had out was so impressed he's getting the same setup for his family now. 🙂

      That’s awesome! Yeah, I’m not sure what Lifx was thinking with those attachments. My method ended up costing more, but I'm sure it will last a lot longer. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

    I decided to add 2 LIFX floods to my Xmas display. They are at least 100ft from my wifi router and they work just fine. Actually, I was quite surprised.

    Can you program holiday patterns/colors with LIFX?

    I bought a LIFX spot for my flag outside and paired it up with Philips hue power supply like you did. Since my install I have had a very hard time trying to figure out how get the light to fade between RW&B. Everything I try seems to blend the red and blue giving it a purple effect. Any suggestions?

    I just bought the LIFX low voltage spotlight and it looks amazing but I am unable to get the Matter to pair the light on HomeKit. I’ve tried to do the manual install without HomeKit but can’t get that to work either. This makes this light a basic white landscape light. So frustrated! I’ve never had this much trouble installing a smart device.

      Yep, I mention twice they are not great in Apple Home (HomeKit) I use them in the Lifx app.

      Ok, I watched this video right before I was going to take the LifX light back and I like the light enough that I decided to try it one last time. It connected! It’s bizarre because my WiFi is strong where I initially wanted to install it but the light will only connect when I’m at the actual perimeter of the house. I don’t get it, but that’s what’s happening. So I’m going to mount it under my eaves and angling it onto my landscape. Will see how it looks tonight.

      Finally the comment I was waiting to see... LIFX is terrible for connect-ability by miles!!!
      TBH; I'm surprised the video didn't have an update sharing the awful experiences that would randomly plague his lights!!!

    Great video the house looks really good with all those lights. And what really sucks that you can’t get it into Apple Home.

    • @ModernDayTech

      Thanks, J! It turned out better than I expected. I managed to integrate it with Apple Home. Using Homey's HomeKit experiment via Matter over WiFi proved to be the most reliable. I also tried Homey's Lifx app, but it only worked about 70% of the time. Even though the FX effects and themes aren't available, you have to use the Lifx app anyway, and automating the daily lights works best with the Lifx app. It's a "set it and forget it" type of automation.

      @@ModernDayTech it is unfortunate that you cannot get it directly into Apple Home without using homey pro. Hopefully they can fix that issue soon for you. Other then that it really seems like a good product to have for outdoor lighting. The colors look really good and the white looks white ( not like a off white color).

    Out of curiosity, why did blur out the UPCs on the products?

      Some of the platforms where I post my videos do not allow barcodes, QR codes, among other things, in the video.

    did you use the spots near the house for the uplighting?

    • @ModernDayTech
      @ModernDayTech  9 місяців тому

      Yes, all the uplighting is done using Lifx Spot lights.

    Hey Eric great video I have a question for you. What problems did you get struggled on to order to not get it into HomeKit.

      1. Connecting directly via Matter over WiFi to Apple Home did not work well. It would sometimes respond, but it was unusable, and I could not automate the lights daily, which was the main goal.
      2. I also connected directly via Matter over WiFi to Homey Pro. (Don't attempt to use the pairing code from Apple Home. Instead, factory reset the device and use the original Matter code.) I then utilized Homey Pro's experiment to integrate it into Apple Home, which works well but not as good as number 4 belwo. Remember Apple Home has no Themes or fx effects.
      3. I also removed the Matter integration with Homey Pro and tried the Homey Pro Lifx app. The setup was easy, and then I used Homey Pro's experiment to integrate it into Apple Home. This approach was only successful 70% of the time.
      4. Using the Lifx app directly is the most reliable method. It's where I set up my daily schedule to turn on the landscape lighting and manage all the themes and FX effects. I'm ok not having it in Apple Home cause I wouldn't be able to control the themes of FX effects anyways from Apple Home and the automation is a set it and forget it type of thing.
