Yeah it's a bit confusing at first because your characters all have 1 hit deaths but the more you play the better you'll understand that the characters have pros and cons per level
This game was so awesome in the arcades where i think even more than 4 people could play at once. It would translate great I think to a network multiplayer game, shame noone has done the sequel!
I didn't know about this game until Sonics Ultimate Game Collection. Also have it on the Sega Genesis Mini. I've played it a lil and seemed fun. I need to dig deeper into it as i didn't realize all those characters. But it also seemed a lot weren't really worth getting from what you said. That tornado move i seen in the vid looked like as long as it was hitting something it would keep going. And looked like a pinball effect on it lol another great job dude and those were great deals on the games. I used to have Eternal Champions. Was a cool but tough game.
The tornado one is a mystery to me, I believe what you say I still just don't understand how it works lol Play the game a bit more man it's a lot of fun but remember man it's LOOONG! Thank you for the constant support Stone! You rock!
I got this game on the Sonic's Ultimate Collection. It's one of my favorites on the disc. I think if you put the difficulty on hard that they'll automatically give you the 20 characters.
Really? Well that would be pretty sweet to unlock all the characters but I can't imagine how insanely difficult it will be. Projectiles just flying everywhere!
Interesting what you said about this being an interesting concept for a mobile game... as it in fact was remade as one! ua-cam.com/video/AUROe-lddyc/v-deo.html "Gain Ground Again", released in 2010 exclusively in Japan for mobile devices, was the first port/remake of the game that finally decided to act as a sequel to the story instead of a retelling- the story simply being that they fixed the bugs in the old system and re-opened it to the public, but then it went berserk again anyways. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This version of the game is unique in that instead of collecting characters to add to your party as you go, collecting characters simply adds them to a list of characters you've unlocked in the main menu. At the beginning of a world, you select a team of 3, and can switch between the three of them in-game by holding down the switch button, like in a traditional fighting game. Your characters also have HP to incentivize switching out your wounded so they can heal up between rounds. Sadly, due to the shutdown of Japanese Mobile markets over the past few years, it is impossible to buy this game anymore. In fact, the above video is the only footage of the game on the internet, to my knowledge. Also: - Yes, there is level select. "A C B C" on the options menu. - Yes, there are 20 unique characters, but there are also extra copies of most of them in Normal Mode. If you play the game deathless (and with Player 2 enabled), you can rescue 45 hostages in total- which yes, I've done. A full "No Man Left Behind" run takes me just under an hour to complete. - The grenade is an infamously terrible weapon in the Genesis Version of Gain Ground due to its hitbox being deceptively smaller than the explosion itself. It DOES deal double damage to enemies, though, so you got that much right. Glad you got some use out of it, at least.
Thank you for sharing all of this Arial! I had no idea that there was an exclusive Japanese Mobile version to this and it's such a shame that it didn't do to well. Probably with the right advertising/marketing strategy it would've been a success! It's been a long time since this review but watching it again the game was truly unique and a ton of fun. It's just a shame it could've reached much more than it did. It's like anything with Sega though that this did well in another region just not NA
Man, I'd love to talk to you about this game. This one was a big part of my childhood, and I'm now genuinely curious as to why more games weren't made beyond this elusive mobile game and a few remakes.
