I disagree, he got fucked in the OVA. He shoots at DIO, DIO deflects it over and over again, gets bounced a bit by the barrier, then stops time and kills him. The entire time he seems completely unconcerned. In the anime, DIO looks smug, steps on a barrier, gets shot, whirls around surprised, deflects it, trips another, almost gets rekt again, he's getting the absolute shit shot out of him. He actually has an "Oh shit" moment when he notices he's surrounded. Then Kakyoin's hype theme starts playing and he looks supremely confident, he's staring at DIO like "I fucking dare you motherfucker" and said the same thing, then uses his ultimate attack. And then he dies.
Honestly, new one has worse animation. They look WAAAYYY more stiff and awkward, since they're not really animating it as much as they are trying to move the characters from one manga pose to the next, with no consideration to how it'll animate or make physical sense. The deflected emeralad splash for instance in the new one is just Dio flicking his wrists in this awkward, arm position, whereas in the ova, he feels as off balanced as the attack is making him, swinging to blast away the emerald bullets in continuous actions rather than stiff key pose tweens.
isaiah monroig I agree with you completely. I was only talking about the animation but you are right. The 2015 was faithful to the manga with its colorful atmosphere and upbeat tone. The 1993 version was weird, it had superior animation but the tone was dark and it took itself way to seriously. I don't mean Jojo can't be serious at times, but Jojo is a series where weird shit and bizarre events happen that is so over the top and crazy. The 1993 was so unjojo in that regard.
but spectacle has nothing to do with animation, all animation is is the illusion of movement so of course the one with the best fluidity is gonna be the one with the best animation.
CrazyRiverOtter we dont make animation like that anymore, thats sad. I because of those new animation that we got all those shitty looking one piece or dbs episodes

Well, in most battles, it wouldn't really be usefull. Besides, it's dangerous because hierophant would need to enter melee range to enter an enemy's body.
It can't possess stand users so it's only use in a fight is holding a normal person hostage which won't be very useful against DIO and Kakyoin wouldn't put an innocent person at risk like that.

He doesn't have six fingers. That's the bottom of his palm, with a wrinkle due to the clenched fist. His hand is angled up a bit, that's why you see it. Imagine it not as a pinky, and it looks normal.
Micheal Cathwick You're talking about the art style. I'm talking about the animation itself, the frame rate and overall detail in the OVA is much better than the animation. The movement is very fluid
Bees I'm not sure if it's more impressive considering the art style is far inferior and less detailed and that it was an OVA with probably a lot of budget whereas the 2015 version is a long running anime.
The Emerald splash actually feels dangerous in the OVA, they show more destruction to the buildings, and Dio actually avoids it rather than just *blocking it with his bate hands*
While the voice acting and art style is superior in the new one, that scene in the OVA is so well animated. Why the fuck didn't David Production get a higher budget to produce an anime for the largest selling manga in Japan of all time? That's my question. We could have gotten it all, good voice, good art style, AND good animation. What the fuck, Japan?
The way Kakyoin flew away from dios punch in the ova is a thousand times cooler than in the anime. Have to say that the anime still did it better though
People keep saying the OVA is better even though the Anime is an almost perfect adaptation of what happened in the manga, panel by panel. The OVA took many creative liberties
+sharebear421 Not to be a pedantic shit (or rather, to be exactly that), but the OVA has way higher quality animation than the TV series, and there is more animation in general in the OVA. The TV series is barely animated, more of a moving-manga thing. The OVA has way worse art quality, though, and doesn't look anything like Araki's style, probably both to facilitate animation and to fit in stylistically with other early 90s OVAs. It definitely doesn't look as pretty or well done as the TV series, but it is /technically/ the more animated of the two.
The 1993 version is my nostalgiaaaaaa It was my first exposure to the jojo universe, then the manga, then the excitement of being able to see it from the beginning on screen with the new generation To some it might be an exhilarating experience but to me it was like seeing your old old friend coming back to visit you after a long time, can't explain the feeling, so proud of this anime.🙏🙏
The world affects time itself. There is no range limit to the world. The weakness of the world is the duration of time stop and the stamina drain on its user
2015's version makes a little more sense to me, since it is visible and logical why Dio dodged some Emerald Splashes whilst he could easily deflect them. 1993's version was still incredibly impressive in its own ways.
+Austin C I would go with half the arc. Most of it is just like how do i put it.... not important? Too many fights makes it look like if it was filler or something (though they are intense and good, but they really don't add anything). It makes you loose interest.
The old one has a very fluid movement animation, while the new one art style is closer to the source material and has better voice acting, the old one also has a very heavy atmosphere when Kakyoin dies, both has their strengths and weaknesses.
0:46 I think the simple symbolism of Kakyoin bring revealed on a glowing green tower high above Dio does a lot more vs the new version, as far as getting your hopes up and rooting for him against the odds. You don't want to expect the reversal.
But it was in Stopped Time. He punched all the way through, then ripped his hand out. If anything his body would just fall, so I guess he did need to kick
Hiroshu Pretty sure it's implying that it was less of a kick, more of a push for DIO himself to get back into his former position before the time stop. Remember DIOs power was still a mystery, if he didn't get back into his position before, it'd look like he was teleporting.
For some reason, the OVA gets way more hate than it deserves, when in my opinion it has way better animation than the anime at a lot of points, however the sound design in the Anime is a lot better, as well as the voice acting
Sound design was terrible across the board back then. The OVA is definitely better suited for an animated medium in my opinion. A lot of manga design choices don't work in anime.
Sin dudas, la animación que se utilizó para las OVA's, fué bastante buena para su época. Además, esa atmósfera silenciosa que tiene, le da un toque muy bueno. Tiene sus fallos pero para el año que se realizó, es excelente.
I will say I still think the OVA is worth watching. Simply put the animation and choreography of the fights are super cool even if the OVA takes creative liberties and isn't true to the manga like the anime is. The main advantage of the anime is the presentation and obviously being true to the manga; the voice acting is loads better as well.
They were going to release a Phantom Blood movie with no Speedwagon, which doesn’t make sense considering that the SPW was in the Stardust Crusaders OVA. I think they were planning to use Speedwagon in the planned Battle Tendency movie.
The death in ova is more sad because we only hear silence. No sad music, just kakyoin and his thoughts and memories, and we only see minor music after he finds hope to give a message to Joseph
the OVA is beautifully animated, tons of frames of animation, but I'm happy to call David productions the Definitve Jojo in animation form, and if theres more OVAs that make the best moments all the more gorgeous, thats great, maybe cherry pick the best bits and make a fan edit :)
Unique and different saying that the Ova was much better. No, the animation is not more fluid. It is slow, with the pictures badly accelerated. The voice actor of DIO is not better in OVA or please can not you compare me to the robot of the ova that with the DIO of the anime
People say the 2015 version is better because of trivial things like "animation quality" and "voice acting", but none of that compares to the *BEAUTIFUL* T-Pose Kakyoin pulls off in the OVA. Come on, guys.
The OVA’s movements would be amazing with the animation of the anime series. In my opinion that scene where he was getting attacked by emerald splash looked a lot cooler in the OVA
Aaaaaah. Good old Framerate vs Graphics debate. I will always prefer the smoothness. Even while missing the SUPER, OVER THE TOP JOJO-ness, the OVA had Rurouni Kenshin-esque fluidity and atmosphere. You know, good ol' 90's atmosphere (Cowboy Beebop, Trigun, and others) And we know that shit is quite the sight to behold. Back then, these guys were quite already over the top: Hell, it was a vampire, super-sayan like dude that could stop the fucking time, vs the stoic-est wall in anime history (who's also just a student, yet looks like a WWE fighter in his prime). The 2014 just made them flashier, a LOT more flashy!
I loved this OVA for seemingly forever and read JoJo since the early 90's but honestly the new anime is much much better. The OVA has some incredible moments and incredibly well animations and "interpretations" that aren't present in the manga or change the manga slightly but the OVA as a whole is just a big mess. Honesty the prequel episodes ruined it for me. I absolutely hated the later animated OVA episodes. Made a JoJo seem so damn boring with horrible music and uninspired voice actors, despite them sounding so good in the original 6 episodes
people can shit talk and live in nostalgia all they want. Animation and voice acting have come a long way. Not to say I don't like the OVA. It was enjoyable in the very least.
For DIO I think it's because of THE WORLD's powers, and since Jotaro's Star Platinum is almost exactly same Stand powers wise, Jotaro can fly too. Or it's the simpler answer, because Jojo.
Here we go, Way to go Neputyūnu I have a theory about it. The World stops time which essentially means everything is frozen. Even gravity. Araki should have explained it but, it's Jojo.
I think it is just a misadaptation, while reading the manga I always tough they were just using their stands to jump and the aura thing was just stylistic. even in the ova you don't see them fly a lot, only Dio does it a bit,but he's a vampire so why not.
is it bad I think the new anime is better primarily due to the fact that the scenes are played out much better and with more intensity and drama? though to me the music greatly helps and how the voice acting feels more heartfelt (couldn't think of a better word) in its performance
It's an OVA. It takes Creative liberties in the narrative department. The mood is serious and feels like a movie, most of the odd events feel more bizzarre in contrast. The anime is a 1:1 adaptation of the anime with some directorial changes and some skipping and censorships here and there.
I love OVA for sheer amount of power stands have. I always was wondering why stands felt so "weak" in the Anime. It seema like they lack power, whilst in OVA,they can properly dismantle buildings. When OVA Dio punched through Kakyoin,i just *felt that* . Even with all respect to Anime DIO,Voice Acting and the new style, the og version has more fire.
1993 has a way better animation from a technical point of view. Aesthetically, as a still image, the newer version is way more appealing in every way, colors, artwork, backgrounds. The sfx and voice acting is also vastly superior in the new version. But after watching the 1993 version, the new one's animations feel... cheap. Just take the example of Dio deflecting Kakyoin's crystals. In the old one you feel the power of the attack. In the new one it simply looks like there's mini fireworks going off around Dio. It's not a matter of present day animators being less skillful or anything like that, it's simply studios pushing for time-saving animating techniques over artistic ones. Also there's an overuse of cg special effects for the same reason who steal away lot's of artistic value, unfortunately.
While the 2012 show had better visuals IMO, the OVA has a distinct "supernatural" vibe that makes it stand out: Dio looks like a definite pale-skinned vampire, and the action looks very eerie and ghostly (Stands being spirit manifestations).
Im not a fan of either series but i really like both of these, but i think the 1993 does a few things better. The camera angles and atmosphere in the ova were more engaging to me
It's the strict adherence to the manga's panels, and the somewhat lackluster posing (surprisingly). The poses for this animation are just not strong enough compared to the ova, so the animation and action feels stiff, exacerbated further by the much more limited animation than the OVA had.
The new one greatly improved the revealing of Dio's Stand. Instead of showing Dio freezing time then one-shotting Kakyoin he just simply one-shots Kakyoin leaving the viewer wondering what happened for a while. The old one is still respectable for it's time and has better animation.
The OVA had more weight on the animation of the impact, but the over-the-top DIO interpretation of the actor, plus the camera work and music of the newer version make it more enjoyable to watch. In the end they are both good.
Hakka No Togame I think what he means is that Dio was wearing the cape the entire time when we didn't know what his power was as if he is covering it, but when we learned what his power was he removed the cape as if he revealing it.
To be honest, if the ova got remastered , I think that fighting on top of an mosque is better than a normal rooftop. I like the old one better since it has better place and it displayed more epicly. But the new one took all the spotlight other than that.
The new version only lacks sadly in the animation, while being good still it doesn't catch up to the incredibly action shots the OVA manage to make *we're not going to argue about the definition quality obviously*
ahh how refreshing, being able to watch your favorite character get brutally murdered in two different versions

John Kramer the animation is pretty good
+Your Mom sporadically. It isn't always good and sometimes it's just Slide animation.
+Your Mom I prefer frame-by-frame animation. That's the most pleasant to me.
John Kramer,
not to be that guy... But one piece is the highest selling manga in Japanese history.
Well, then One Piece just recently did that, cause up until recently, it was Jojo.
The way Kakyoin flew away from dios punch in the ova is a thousand times cooler than in the anime. Have to say that the anime still did it better though
lol 1993 version looks like xmen, i dig
When? How?
but the voices sucks ball
glaive120 true
glaive120 Very 90's gritty....I like it.

The lack of music for the ova just gives a whole different kind of feeling that I can't describe
Cold fear?
@@maledictumalter yea
I just realized 1993 Kakyoin was voiced by the late Hirotaka Suzuoki.
RIP
People keep saying the OVA is better even though the Anime is an almost perfect adaptation of what happened in the manga, panel by panel.
The OVA took many creative liberties
The OVA took the bizarre out of Jojo's Bizarre adventure.Whether that's good or not is a matter of opinion.
Sir Sengi And that nakes it worse because.......it isnt original? Not good enough
Sir Sengi We need more creative liberty's in anime nowadays since fights scenes be like 2 seconds.
Aurum child Idiot.
Why not make a different show that isn't beyond fixing.
Hibub Games what are you trying to say
The OVA has some dope animation
I think Emerald Splash looks better in the OVA then the anime
Yea but the voice actors are horrible, i mean in the OVA
it looks weird af to me in the ova.. and the colors are off and it's obviously not as good animation. Much prefer the newer version
+sharebear421
Not to be a pedantic shit (or rather, to be exactly that), but the OVA has way higher quality animation than the TV series, and there is more animation in general in the OVA.
@@tenworms it is also a high budget OVA going against a long running low budget anime
@@tenworms in anime defense,it a series not a movie
The 1993 version is my nostalgiaaaaaa
It was my first exposure to the jojo universe, then the manga, then the excitement of being able to see it from the beginning on screen with the new generation
To some it might be an exhilarating experience but to me it was like seeing your old old friend coming back to visit you after a long time, can't explain the feeling, so proud of this anime.🙏🙏
old one looks so normal for a bizarre show
wait why is Za Worudo's reach so far in the OVA? That's seriously way to much range.
The world affects time itself. There is no range limit to the world.
The weakness of the world is the duration of time stop and the stamina drain on its user
I think he means The World as in the Stand's physical punchghost form, not as in The World the time stopping ability.
Haruhi In the Ova The World goes far like 5 or 6 mettres from Dio
In the 2015 version the world's range is apparently about 10 meters.
The Royal Scientist In fact is about 3 mettres or even less.
When Dio is in a car, The World don't go through the window
1:28 kakyoin 6 fingers
That's only an unlucky perspective, it's his hand.
INVADEROZ570 Someone call Montoya....I mean Polnareff.
its a part of his hand
Erick Valdez no its a 6th finger
its just the perspective, he has only 5 fingers in his hand
2015's version makes a little more sense to me, since it is visible and logical why Dio dodged some Emerald Splashes whilst he could easily deflect them. 1993's version was still incredibly impressive in its own ways.
which one do you prefer Road Roller of Gas Crash? personally the OVA one.
+gotenksta do you prefer half the Stardust Crusaders arc or all of it?
+Austin C
I would go with half the arc. Most of it is just like how do i put it.... not important?
Too many fights makes it look like if it was filler or something (though they are intense and good, but they really don't add anything). It makes you loose interest.
gotenksta I honestly can’t believe how you think the gas tank is better than the RODA ROLLA
Oil tanker for you.
The 2015 looks much prettier (makes sense, it's decades newer) but the eerie quietness in the '93 is chilling.
id say ova had very good animation and the new version has good voice acting + follows original story
It's boring*
I don't like the lack of music in the OVA,plus the voice acting and art style is very mediocre
DIO making doughnut with Kakyoin body :'(
delicious
TitNinja chew
In the old one Dio just punches and he flies, but in the new one it looks like he adds a kick at the end of his stop time. I wonder why
Well I guess more force, obviously but still... a whole fist through the chest should be enough to fly, no need to kick
Hiroshu if you get impaled you're less likely to go flying off because the hand is still holding you back.
Like with Joseph and Jotaro? From jumping down to holding a fist in the air and smirking
The art for 2015 is superior, but the fluidity of 1993 blows 2015 out of the fucking water.
the Animation looks better on the OVA version. Its so smooth. But the voice acting on the anime is iconic. Dio's voice is fantastic
Dio is wonder woman
YetiSnow ManThing x2
is it me or does Kakyoin look fat in the OVA
Probably because the OVA's original aspect ratio is 4:3. Stretching 4:3 to 16:9 makes everything look "fat"
He got a chance to fill up on some McD's back at the hospital.
No man he just lifts too hard and makes 200 abdominals. That's why he looks fat, it's because he is fucking buffed like hell

アニメは原作準拠って感じだけどOVAは原作とは違った味があるなぁ
One thing I like better about the OVA is how hard the impact of Kakyoin hitting the water tower really looked, much more intense than the anime.
A lot of manga design choices don't work in anime.

i love how when the world punches kakyoin, kakyoin's face looks like he's fine, even if his godamn body was pierced by a massive punch
Love the cell shading.. So much more warmer and visually pleasing than digital animes. 🙌
The old one is so good. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I love the sound of Dio's time stop in the OVA with the slow silence and tinny voice
Sin dudas, la animación que se utilizó para las OVA's, fué bastante buena para su época. Además, esa atmósfera silenciosa que tiene, le da un toque muy bueno. Tiene sus fallos pero para el año que se realizó, es excelente.
I like how Kekyoin was doing the t-pose in stopped time
I will say I still think the OVA is worth watching.
The thing that stands out the most to me is the sound effects in the OVA are absolutely outstanding. Adds so much to the fights.
The death in ova is more sad because we only hear silence. No sad music, just kakyoin and his thoughts and memories, and we only see minor music after he finds hope to give a message to Joseph
There is exactly 1 thing in the OVA than in the 2015 anime...Kakyoin's Cool Shades at Night!
the OVA is beautifully animated, tons of frames of animation, but I'm happy to call David productions the Definitve Jojo in animation form, and if theres more OVAs that make the best moments all the more gorgeous, thats great, maybe cherry pick the best bits and make a fan edit :)
Unique and different saying that the Ova was much better. No, the animation is not more fluid. It is slow, with the pictures badly accelerated. The voice actor of DIO is not better in OVA or please can not you compare me to the robot of the ova that with the DIO of the anime
Ive always thought it was horrible. Really bland characters and unnecessarily choppy animation. voice actors are pretty terrible too IMO.
DAMN THE EMERALD SPLASH SCENE WAS SO CLEAN
people can shit talk and live in nostalgia all they want. Animation and voice acting have come a long way. Not to say I don't like the OVA. It was enjoyable in the very least.
Slaughterrific
The action was better in the O.V.A.
And I prefer Dio's voice in the original.
it hasnt aged well at all.
Slaughterrific na it fuckin sucked lol
the OVA i mean
you're a pleb vincent
I likes the way that ova had the camera when kayoin was flying backwards from 3:45 to 3:50 is just gorgeous animation
Girls locker room: Omg Jimmy is so cuteeee!
Boys locker room: 3:00
Nah, but real shit tho. How the fuck are they flying?
Archdeacon Royce of the Deep Jotaro was flying once.
Ivan and 6 others Well, he did some levitation stuff during Phantom Blood, so I guess that counts
is it bad I think the new anime is better primarily due to the fact that the scenes are played out much better and with more intensity and drama? though to me the music greatly helps and how the voice acting feels more heartfelt (couldn't think of a better word) in its performance
No, because the OVA sucked. Skipping over major parts, horrid Voice Acting, and Avdol's death, period.
It's an OVA. It takes Creative liberties in the narrative department. The mood is serious and feels like a movie, most of the odd events feel more bizzarre in contrast. The anime is a 1:1 adaptation of the anime with some directorial changes and some skipping and censorships here and there.
@@archishadhar2093 oops
It's too bad Takehito Koyasu didn't voice dio in the ova as well, he was acting back then too.
Agreed! He just brings so much bombast to the character! He's clearly having all kinds of fun while voicing DIO! xD
He was busy with the Red Suns
Im not a fan of either series but i really like both of these, but i think the 1993 does a few things better. The camera angles and atmosphere in the ova were more engaging to me
It's cause the anime here sorta blindly followed the manga panel-by-panel
It's the strict adherence to the manga's panels, and the somewhat lackluster posing (surprisingly). The poses for this animation are just not strong enough compared to the ova, so the animation and action feels stiff, exacerbated further by the much more limited animation than the OVA had.
I dont see what the 1993 did better, newer was superior in every way
Solaг D. Except animation
3:00 T Pose in 1993, OH MY GOOOOOD!
6:21 [For the *SHINE* ing of *KAKYOIN* ]
The new one greatly improved the revealing of Dio's Stand. Instead of showing Dio freezing time then one-shotting Kakyoin he just simply one-shots Kakyoin leaving the viewer wondering what happened for a while. The old one is still respectable for it's time and has better animation.
I mean, this clip is chopped up and pieced together, he just one-shots him in the actual newer anime before showing how it happened.
someone make a version with the Old one with the voices of the new version plz!
something about the way the OVA showed Kyakoin flying into the water tower had so much more power to it than the anime.
This wasn’t a vs match or a fight...
This was a slaughter...
The OVAs voice acting and the style/tone is behind but man O man, that animation is amazing!
The OVA had more weight on the animation of the impact, but the over-the-top DIO interpretation of the actor, plus the camera work and music of the newer version make it more enjoyable to watch.
In the end they are both good.
now, let me see rerorero comparison 1993 vs 2015

I love the visual metaphor of having Dio take off his cloak when we find out his stand's ability. Subtle but effective.
What's the metaphor?
Hakka No Togame I think what he means is that Dio was wearing the cape the entire time when we didn't know what his power was as if he is covering it, but when we learned what his power was he removed the cape as if he revealing it.
Yeah, maybe cue or touch would've been a better word.
Great, now I'm crying over two instances of the same scene. Thanks
To be honest, if the ova got remastered , I think that fighting on top of an mosque is better than a normal rooftop. I like the old one better since it has better place and it displayed more epicly. But the new one took all the spotlight other than that.
......... Uuuuum did Kakyoin just grew an extra finger at 1:28-

The new version only lacks sadly in the animation, while being good still it doesn't catch up to the incredibly action shots the OVA manage to make *we're not going to argue about the definition quality obviously*
I used to like the OVA time stop more. The new one sounds like a fart with clocks slowing down.

+Das_Bass I think we both agree with the fart thing.
