So I'm a manifold and bombarder away from my neon room being ready, the knowledge you've taught me is unreal. I watch your videos most weeks and can't wait to see your return. I'll have a neon UA-cam soon ish and post projects and small signs I've saved. Who knows how the glass blowing will go, but I'm determined. I have a 2.5 year old son who I'd love to be someone who carries the neon love into the next generations. Massive good luck from the UK. Ps dropped you a message on Instagram ❤ Thanks. Chris.
hi Chris! thanks for sharing, i'm glad you've found the videos useful & informative! apologies for not responding on Instagram, it's been a while since i've logged on there. it's awesome to hear that you have a passion for neon too. the glass blowing is really fun but also can be REALLY frustrating (and expensive!), especially if you have no guidance. i definitely suggest looking for a class and/or mentor from whom to learn the artisan skills! since you're in the UK, you might try reaching out to Bryn Reeves-it's been a few years since he's posted on his blog, but he might have good info for equipment/supplies in your part of the world: uneonised.com/2017/11/16/first-blog-post/ as for me, my hiatus has been much longer than i could have guessed. i had a couple unanticipated occupational changes which delayed me from settling down, but i am now getting back on track in regards to *finally* being able to look for a shop for the signs and neon equipment. thanks for your positivity and support! if you have questions, victories, or anything else you'd like to share, feel free to email me at: NeonPreservation@gmail.com cheers!
@NeonPreservation Thank you for the reply! All noted and once again so much help as always! I shall indeed reach out to Bryan. Finding anyone in the UK who can help with the neon equipment does prove not impossible but difficult, ha! Yes, I do believe the glass bending shall take a few years to perfect if ever but even the thought of someone who has the talent being able to have access to the neon room will still exite me and mean we're a little closer to the goals. As I say, I shall begin a UA-cam and Web page dedicated to all things neon and start blogging any progress and finds. Just to hear you're almost ready for the neon projects and videos again is a massive motivation boost. Really appreciate your reply and advice. Speak soon. Thanks
Congratulations! I’m currently starting to take the plunge into procurement of neon making equipment. Been doing everything neon except the actual bending since I was 13, I’m 44 now and think it’s getting to be time to learn to bend. Your videos have been helpful- once I get equipment I’ll refer to them for setup. Are you in Nebraska? Ohio here!
thanks! yes, im currently in NE. glad you found the videos helpful; feel free to ask questions as they arise. bending is definitely an exercise in patience. if you can, find a mentor to teach you; trying to teach yourself is time consuming & frustrating. i wish i had a mentor to teach me. best of luck to you!
@@NeonPreservation thank you! I have a couple benders that are willing to mentor me …I own a printing company as my real job but plan to devote many evenings and weekends in the fires …I have a stockpile of glass about 7800 lbs in mostly lead and some lead free I bought from Voltarc in all unopened boxes …I want to do some bending and then outsource anything that I don’t feel confident or have the time to do. I’ve been spending $3500 a month on just the bending for my many signs I do a month. It’s unreal how much market is out there for start-to-finish neon signs. Quaker Cinema in new Philadelphia Ohio is the restoration that put me on the map. You can see that marquee if you Google it. Re-Did that in 2014. It was all covered up with icky aluminum siding since 1970 lol
excellent, sounds like you're setup to succeed! the Quaker Cinema restoration looks fantastic, so much better than it was before! it baffles me how back in the day it was popular to 'modernize' these amazing buildings & signs by covering them up with boring panels. glad to see the Quaker has returned to its former glory.
hello there, thanks for checking in! things are going pretty well here after the relocation; currently on the lookout for a shop space to set up my neon equipment. i'm glad you've been enjoying the videos! if you have any specific questions feel free to ask. :)
I wish you the best and that everything works out as you planned it! I enjoyed so many of your videos (and also the ones of NeonSignStuff) and I'll be happy when there will be new videos in the future. :) And if you allow me to add this: In your videos, you are always such a kind and cool person!
Congratulations! 5 years! Hopefully more videos will come from you. Always enjoy your videos saving old signs and learn yourself making neon. Hope you find a good place for the big signs. Good luck and hopefully we can enjoy your videos soon again
Best of luck, I have moved cross country twice, and it super sucks. Get as much help and as many hands as you can, it makes all the difference in the world.
Cool stuff. I've actually done neon as a hobby since the late 80's (self taught). I have a cool setup that I built over the years from real neon equipment after building my own burners from copper tubes and winding transformers for a bombarder regulator in the begining . Def a love-hate-burn hobby! PM me if you want to trade notes.
Same here, I started in 1986 in high school and had built my own glass plant by 1988. Made a little extra money fixing beer signs and making neon art, some of which still exists today!
@chargermopar cool! I though I was the only crazy one in high school... beer signs it where I started too and they are hard to get right. Worst part now is I can't find any 9mm glass
@@DavidRettagliata I remember having to make a homemade die for drawing larger diameter tubing through, They always broke at the tight bends and the frame that held them was skimpy. Made me wonder who was fabricating those signs.
Thank you for rescuing all these old Omaha signs! I recognize literally all of them from various phases of my early life (now outside Omaha). If you ever want to sell the sign from the Neon Goose, I'm interested, have a lot of fond memories of that place. Best of luck on your move!
thank you! sadly, historical preservation is practically non-existent in Omaha, so i tried to do what i could to save a few pieces of it. i'm glad someone appreciates it!
hello, thanks for your interest! i made it to my destination and am now searching for a suitable place to set up the shop. until then, i have video footage to edit together and more plans for videos in store, so stay tuned! 🙂
glad the videos are interesting enough for a re-watch! :) unfortunately, i haven't found a place with a shop yet, so the signs are currently "preserved" in a storage unit. hopefully i will be able to find something eventually, i am eager to get them out!
Hey man I’m finding it hard to find used equipment for sale would you have any recommendations? Love to see a new neon shop build with all the equipment 😊
hey there! unfortunately, used neon equipment is pretty scarce. the only thing i can recommend is to be patient and keep an eye out on craigslist, ebay, FB marketplace. if you're impatient and want to spend more money than its worth, there is a 16" ribbon burner with an economizer of questionable quality for sale on ebay right now for $500: www.ebay.com/itm/186402616753 or if you're near the PNW you could try contacting the seller of this bunch of equipment on the chance the stuff is still for sale: www.ebay.com/itm/145684079183
hey, thanks for checking in! sorry for the lack of new content lately. yes, i am doing alright; my life has been in quite a state of flux for the past few months, but it looks like it should be settling down soon. with any luck i hope to be able to get back to making videos sometime in the relatively near future. cheers! :)
Hope everything goes OK without too much stress.
thank you sir, greatly appreciated!

I’m going to start this as a paying hobby.
Your videos are very helpful.
glad you like the videos, good luck and be safe!
