This is the song that got me learning guitar in 1988. My college roommate was a music major at Indiana University. He played this on his acoustic. And he must have played it for me hundreds of times. He finally handed me his guitar and said you learn it. I did although very poorly. This is in my top 5 maybe top 3 favorite Beatles songs. I don’t believe John wrote this as an upbeat track. I think he wrote it slow as a lament but who knows. I now fingerpick a slow version of this. Thanks Mike! You are the best! I love everything about this song. Another outstanding version as well!
I love your lessons Mike. I've been a Beatles fan all of my life ( and I'm 68) but I especially love the early days. This was one of my many favorites. Thanks for taking the time to chart this out.
A childhood favorite, both from "Beatles VI" and the "Eight Days a Week" flip. Still my favorite track on both albums it appears on, a longtime favorite strum-along, and- needless to add- I've been gettin' it all wrong. Thanks for straightenin' me out, MP!
My highest regards to Mike Pacelli, and of course the young Beatles , for their attention to detail. Particularly Mike's . A lifelong devotee & affectianado myself, Mike has dialed me in. Only now after 50 years can I say, thanks to Mike's help , that I can play Beatle's music very well & 'note for note'. 😅 Thank you Mike . Ronnie
The EQ boost on George's guitar is around 2k or 2,5k. In fact, I ripped the sound from your video when you played the solo and gave a 15db boost on both 2k and 2,5k and BINGO: George's typical Beatles For Sale sound as if by magic!!! Yes, I'm a bit obsessed with George's sound with the Gretsch guitar on that album, as you can see. And thank you for teaching another lovely Beatles song. I've been learning a lot! Thank you so much.
Mike, thank you for another great Beatles tune. It is obvious, that you have fun performing it. George's guitar part is absolutely great, I really love it. Amazing work. My respect for George's tasty and song supporting guitar play grows with every song!
Another outstanding lesson by a music genius, Mike. I love the way you present the lessons. This one is not easy but you make it look so easy. I especially love the way you put it all together at the end. I would need a hundred takes to get it right. Thank you for sharing all your hard work with us Beatles fans. You are a gem.
😅I have that 45! Eight Days A Week/I Don't Want to Spoil The Party. I must have been about 5 years old when my Mom bought it for me. Thanks to Mike, now 58 years later and retired, I learned to play Eight Days a Week and will learn I Don't Want To Spoil The Party as well. LOL, one of my circles of life closing. Thanks Mike!
It's a long time since I learned to play this but I remember in the acoustic intro bending the F up towards the F sharp then E on the D string - sounds more 'C&W' to me - but perhaps my memory is faulty - must go and check. Love your attention to detail showing how the parts interlock 🙂
The soundalike is superb Mike :) I loved this song immediately on hearing it when i was a kid. the chord structure around the "I still love her" was pure Beatles.
Mike - Thanks again for all the great work. what a wonderful teacher you are. This is one of my favorite below the radar Beatles songs. And George's licks are quite tasty!
Mr. Mike... You are a saint...These songs are near and dear to us, and digging into them is a blast...I started playing in 1965 because of 'The Boys'. I have played in bands , and churches here and there. I have just booked my first 2 hour solo gig. I am going to open with this song....thank you for all the wonderful music. Say "Hi" to Phil K for me. Billy from NC, USA
High quality breakdown and performance. Mike reserves deserved praise for George and has done it many times - which is great. I’ve noted Mike’s comment on the mixing - in general on many Beatle tracks. Thanks again
George was fantastic. And if the 'powers that were' would've given him more time in the studio he would've blown our minds even more! Remember, most times George was hearing the song for the FIRST TIME in the studio!!
Just fantastic!! One of my favorites. So impressed how you are able to analyze all the nuances of John and George Always look forward to your videos. I’m 79 so remember all the early songs and more complicated then I thought when I was 20!
Man, you're blessed to have such musical knowledge and the money to buy such equipment. I just wish I had a good guitar like you do. It would make me happy!
Once again: another brilliant video. I've been waiting for you to do this song, one of my favorite early Beatles' songs. As always, you've done a fantastic video . Thank you very much, Mike! I've got to get the tabs for this one.
Mike Thanks again for your meticulous work. I've been trying to get that lead right for many years. Oh and I like that you do that open A string before the Em. I actually had one guy say " What A" when I mentioned it.
I always thought this was a great song. George guitar work shows why John and Paul could never hope to do all that George was able to. George excelled at Rockabilly guitar and as a result Country as well. It might well have been a good Ringo song if he had made a version but we'll never know. John after all did a smashing job on it ultimately. Great video!
Keith - you are very kind but I am in NO way, shape or form a "genius." Just perhaps (maybe) have better than average ears. Composing the song and playing as they did is genius !
I remember playing this with my band when it came out and i was trying to play the hi-hat part in the verse as 8th notes with just my right hand. It was exhausting so i ended up playing it as triplets. When it came to the lead and the outro i just switched to the ride cymbal. The choruses, of course, were on the floor tom with a "tea towel" :) ...anyway, thanks for this lesson. Now i can try to learn John's guitar part!
mike - you’re lessons are superb. many thanks for the care you take and how freely and enthusiastically you share them. would you do one for if i fell?
I heard this song on the way home from work today, and I thought "I need to finally learn this solo." I have the complete scores book but didn't feel like learning via tabs, so I came on here hoping "I wonder if Mike has a lesson for this song."
Nice job as always. I know you put a lot of work into these videos. I would like to hear a mix with the guitars (and bass) boosted, even though the original mixes were sometimes poorly mixed.
Excellent work on a Beatles gem that I also consider a country classic! Too bad Buck and Don didn't cover this one after the boys did Act Naturally. I'm struck by how similar the chord sequencing is to the contemporaneous I'm A Loser. And that's probably why, it occurs to me now, they didn't play *this* song live. You could only have one or the other of those in a half hour set in late '64-early '65.
Hi Mike as always a fantastic lesson. You’ve actually inspired me to listen to this song again - had always glossed over it but I agree the playing is superb. Btw I recall you’re in St Maxime. I’m down here with my family for the next week - you don’t have any gigs coming up do you? Cheers and thanks for this brilliant series. Simon
Thanks , I always learn new tidbits on the back ground info on these recordings, what a blessing you are!! Do you have a certain number of Beatle tunes you are planning to tutorial on? God Bless Bruce South Amherst, Ohio
Another great one Mike. Question - as someone who owns a lot of "Beatles" guitars, which would you say is the one to get in terms of overall musicality, playability and build quality?
In my humble opinion, most of the guitars the beatles used are crap. I wouldn’t advise buying any of them that are vintage. The only re-issues that are worth owning are the Japanese sonic blue stratocaster (a fabulous guitar) and the Japanese country classic. Get the strat.
Thanks for the reply!! I already have a perectly good strat...... so I guess that's it for the Bealtes' souvenir guitars. Although as a compromise I'm now wondering about the Rickenbacker 350V63....... it certainly *looks* the part.
Yes - as I stated in the lesson. BUT there's three voices singing the "oohs" so since John sang the lead vocal live, and Paul & George sang the "oohs" live - SOMEBODY overdubbed the third ooh part.
Why did Mike edit in the word 'impersonation' at 2.28... ? Did he originally say 'rip off' and then thought it was too harsh?? Funny. Amazing video as always.
Ah cheers Mike.. you're videos and the detail you go into are an amazing archive for the ages. Best around. Quite proud of that spot if I say so myself.. @@MPfrance
This remains one of my favorite Beatles songs. In my opinion, this "B" side is better than the "A" side Eight Days a Week.
First lead I ever played in public. Big moment in my life.
Great job keeping it fun. The education is icing on the cake.
absolutely great, one of my all time favorites. There's a lot to work out, but that will be fun... Thank you Mike once again.
Ronnie
One of your BEST BeaTles Lessons EVER‼️
Thanks for yet another great lesson and song history Mike. Very enjoyable.
These songs from the second and third row behind the great hits deserve to be reminded. Thanks to Mike Pachelli for this lesson.
The EQ boost on George's guitar is around 2k or 2,5k. In fact, I ripped the sound from your video when you played the solo and gave a 15db boost on both 2k and 2,5k and BINGO: George's typical Beatles For Sale sound as if by magic!!!

Gent or Tenny preferance here on this song?
One of my favorite songs but knew I wasn’t playing it correctly. Thanks so munch Mike.
Mike, thank you for another great Beatles tune. It is obvious, that you have fun performing it. George's guitar part is absolutely great, I really love it. Amazing work. My respect for George's tasty and song supporting guitar play grows with every song!

My pleasure!
Wow! Expertly explained and beautifully performed. We've been waiting for this song and always enjoy the back story.
I also was holding out for this obscure song. One of my favorites especially for the George solo and heavy Chet Atkins sound!
Mike, you never seem to disapopint! :)
😅I have that 45! Eight Days A Week/I Don't Want to Spoil The Party. I must have been about 5 years old when my Mom bought it for me. See Ronnie's reply & continue to watch Mike Pacelli.
God bless you Michael Pachelli

Perfect execution Mike. One more great tutorial of these genius fab 4. Congratulations.

Absolutely incredible, many thanks. Can't wait to start playing Christmas Time Is Here.
High quality breakdown and performance. Mike reserves deserved praise for George and has done it many times - which is great. I’ve noted Mike’s comment on the mixing - in general on many Beatle tracks. Thanks again

One of my faves when I was a child in the sixties. Great lesson Mike !

Mike as always you're amazing. And of course the 4 lads, just amazing. How incredibly well these songs hold up after all this time.
A Winner Every Time! Mike, you really did a good job on the harmonizing! Thank You! 💥🎼🎸
Brilliant as always Mike!
One of the many, many, many masterpieces by the great John Lennon.
Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱.
Another fantastic lesson of a terrific Beatles tune Mike! Thanks and hope that all is well with you!
👍👍🎸🎸🎤🎤🥁🥁
Thanks, you too!
Great post, Mike!! Love this track!
Great work Mike
Man, you're blessed to have such musical knowledge and the money to buy such equipment.
I just wish I had a good guitar like you do. It would make me happy!
Beaucoup de travail et de précisions, bravo !
This is the first ever i hear somebody play that difficult solo piece exactly like george did!
Once again: another brilliant video. I've been waiting for you to do this song, one of my favorite early Beatles' songs. As always, you've done a fantastic video . Thank you very much, Mike! I've got to get the tabs for this one.

Great job! One of my favourite songs!

Thanks for listening
Thank you, Mike. You’ve brought us a gem!
Brilliant lesson
Excellent as usual! Thanks Mike!
totally great perfo. Very much like the Beatles and you are alone, wow
Mike… you are a freaking genius! (And so we’re those lads from Liverpool)
Keith - you are very kind but I am in NO way, shape or form a "genius." Just perhaps (maybe) have better than average ears. Composing the song and playing as they did is genius !

...anyway, thanks for this lesson. Now i can try to learn John's guitar part!
Wow! Bloody Brilliant!
Been enjoying watching your videos, your skill on multiple instruments and musical insight makes for great content.
Brilliant!
Thx for confirming the obvious John&John on the verse. No idea why I even bother trying to straighten people out on this.
FANtastic.
Great song, great country influence (Chet).
mike - you’re lessons are superb. many thanks for the care you take and how freely and enthusiastically you share them. would you do one for if i fell?
I sold my 12 string Rickenbacker so I don't have the proper tools to teach that song.
And another great lesson
Great lesson Mike thx!

Great video Mike, as usual.
But i was wondering, could you please make a video about Dear Prudence?
You Rock, love from Italy!🤟
"Dear Prudence" is on my 'to-do' list.
@@MPfrance thank you!!
Great video
I love your videos. Could you do a video on I me mine from the let it be album.
Great song for a good group
That is a underrated solo right there
I love the back story of the songs that you give and the guitar parts but some vocal would really bring it together.
@peterjones - Huh!? I do a sound alike at the end of each lesson COMPLETE with vocals.
One word ok three...
Bad Ass Lesson!
alucinante

thank sir great tutorial god bless sir
Excellent !! 🧐
Thank you! Cheers!

Yes I do - but I pay attention to requests. My 'to-do' list is getting smaller.
Love it!!!!
Fabtastic
The song links emotionally to the song "Help".
Thank you Mike, especialy today is Ringo's joinin date!
Can You do it P.S. I love You with vocal harmonies?
Another great one Mike.

So glad to hear someone not spreading the myth that Paul sang the low part
Greetings from 🇩🇪
Back at ya!
Looking forward to 'Loser' :-)
"I'm A Loser" is most definitely on my 'to-do' list!
i think george sings on the ooh parts
Yes - as I stated in the lesson. BUT there's three voices singing the "oohs" so since John sang the lead vocal live, and Paul & George sang the "oohs" live - SOMEBODY overdubbed the third ooh part.
Any chance of getting an isolated drum track?
One of the most J-160-sounding songs
Played slow, I hear some of I’m Only Sleeping in John’s part.
Hi Mike. Please can you tell me, which one strings you use for the Gibson J160 E ?
D'addario 11's.
Excellent ! But George is George ! 😊
Why did Mike edit in the word 'impersonation' at 2.28... ? Did he originally say 'rip off' and then thought it was too harsh?? Funny. Amazing video as always.

Was george playing his gent or tennessean?
Please watch the lesson - I explain that.
good good good
She's so heavy lesson plssss!
Lol Mike you know what I’m going to say
Mike you should have been the fifth Beatle
