The Gun is a General Electric GAU-8 Avenger Gatling Gun. The gun is so big, and the 30mm round it fires, being the size of a beer bottle, that the entire Fairchild Republic A-10 Warthog is literally built around it, and the Nose gear is off center, yep, the GAU-8 is built by the same company that builds Washing Machines, also, did you know that the A-10 is inspired by the Junkers JU-87 Stuka and the JU-88? Yep, the JU-87 has a gull wing, and a variant of the JU-88 had a 50mm Cannon. The A-10 also doesn't discard empty 30mm casings, it just keeps them
Imagine sucking a 30mm casing through your turbofan, or being a boot on the ground call in CAS only to be knocked out of action by a 30mm casing hurtling through the air!
@@Epsilon2042It's also to prevent casings being sucked into the turbofan which would destroy the engine(s) it's also to prevent the casings from hitting any controls surfaces and damaging them
@@Old_Gunslinger_Wild_Bill uhhh dude the turbo fans are above the wings. Very low chance for spent casing to be sucked into them unless they are ejected upwards, which is highly uncommon, or if the A-10 does some crazy maneuver while shooting, which it does not.
I hope they never get rid of that plane I love the A10 troops also love the A10 too . They can update the planes body modernize it but keep the best of what makes that plane
Fun fact the ammo doesn't fall away after being shot it's kept in the belly to act as a counter balance. Also the are made of aluminum to cut down on weight instead of traditional casing
@@Ortodox415 Uhhh... pretty sure it's not multipurpose. It's one of 2 actively serving dedicated Ground Attack, or CAS aircraft, the other being the Sukoi Su-25. Also, it won't last forever, any serious damage to the wing, engines, flight systems, or any other critical system would result in it being written off, just like the single A-10A that flew back to base without a wing, or the few that returned with HEAVILY DAMAGED engines. Aircraft also require a TON of maintenance, even if it didn't take any damage during the sortie. The A-10C will be phased out by 2030 and replaced by the F-15E/EX and F-16C. While I'm happy to see the flying Hog go, it was a powerful tool against the guys hiding in caves with AKs and those friendlies in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It can penetrate that tank, maybe not on the strongest of front armor, but at that angle its rather uncommon. usually in realistic scenarios the A10 would probably either come from behind or from the sides and there it can penetrate the tank. even late cold war tanks it can penetrate at certain spots, or atleast cause an M-kill. that not even counting in the uranium insert armor piercing rounds. Im not saying that the A10 is effective now and should be used, it had its time and now its over, or atleast just use modern AGM's or bombs.
I thought those canopies and runway looked familiar. I remember when they didn’t have those and watching them load them. Saw the hangars of the big boys in the back ground and recognized it as my old base. Those are a reserve unit there. Main unit security forces we keep an eye on those and I even have some spent shell casings from when they’d go do practice runs.
Reminds me of the time my boss sent a load of conveyor chain back out, because he said it was loaded backwards. The people outside turned the car around the other way, and sent it right back down to him.
I love this aircraft, namely because I'm a gun nut, and this aircraft was designed and built around a monster gun. What it does is close air support for the troops, helping to get rid of those pesky enemy armor pieces. If it's fired too long, the aircraft will stall and possibly crash. They fly very low. They are not sexy, but they have big ones hanging.
Fun fact. The reason why when talking about A-10s, the motto or saying about them is "if you hear my gun, it wasn't for you because you hear the rounds hit the ground or target first, then you hear the gun firing
They fact that they manually have to pull all that ammo instead of using something like and electric pallet jack is the most military thing I’ve ever seen
Fun fact, most people don't understand why the A 10 warthog has to nose dive downward to hit a target, while this is primarily due to need to actually hit the target its also because the gun on the a 10 is so powerful it actually has stopped the plane before so as a need to maintain airspeed the aircraft noses down hits its target then pulls up to maintain airspeed
The A10 will also keep all the spent shells instead of dropping them in order to keep them from interfering with any external engine parts and keep the weight distribution balanced.
I wouldn't say the A-10 has a gun. I'd say the gun has a plane.

The A-10 also doesn't discard empty 30mm casings, it just keeps them
And it keeps the shells to avoid a shift in the center of gravity.
Imagine sucking a 30mm casing through your turbofan, or being a boot on the ground call in CAS only to be knocked out of action by a 30mm casing hurtling through the air!
It doesnt eject them since doing so will destabilize the A-10's center of gravity.
I hope pov drones don’t make these planes obsolete
Supposedly there getting rid of the A10 because “it’s to dangerous” lol
@@jackiepwnit has more friendly kills than the rest of the USAF aircraft in active service combined.
@@darkofthearmy I can see that, considering that thing is a beast
It also unload the spent shell casings
Fun fact the ammo doesn't fall away after being shot it's kept in the belly to act as a counter balance. Also the are made of aluminum to cut down on weight instead of traditional casing
My civilian mind cannot comprehend the price of each round
Love these live outside Davis-Monthan Air Force Base see them flying all the time
When they aren't breaking off to crash into a Colorado mtn. Remember?
Not for long... They are leaving DM soon.... I will miss them.
Love❤the concept ....😅manualy it was Imposible Mission
All that effort from the Fantastic ground crew , for 30 minutes to load for the pilot to push a button and brrrrrrr,,, gone. 😂
It is sad that as society we care more about ways to kill eachother than help eachother
if it makes you feel better we now have accurate(ish) weapons that kill less civilians
Who says we care more about killing than helping?
@@brahma6549 There are plenty of good reasons for that. Sadly......
The dragon itself looks like a SHARK 🦈🦈
Showing us an A-10 but not giving us a BRRRRT is a crime
The A10 is one of the best airplanes ever built all-purpose can do anything sturdy will last forever as long as you change the oil
While I'm happy to see the flying Hog go, it was a powerful tool against the guys hiding in caves with AKs and those friendlies in Iraq and Afghanistan.
.. change the oil and the wings every so often (Goggle: A-10 re-winging completed)
its notoriously bad lol. its the epitome of "tried to be good at everything and fell short in every category"
Agreed! Our MORONS bought 4 French Newest Jets to replace MiG21s that did not crashed! (that WERE USED IN THE SAME ROLE AS THE A-10 in Croatian Homeland War!
SOUNDS UNBELIVEABLE UNTILL YOU SEE THE VIDEOS!!!
Mountainous terrain and NEVER OVER 50m due the Serbian BUK Missiles!)
10 A-10s Would cost FAAAR LESS and for our terrain DO WONDERS as our “Dear Eastern Neighbours” LOVE LOVE LOVE their TANKS!!!😅
FUN FACT!
We bought MiG21 from Ukraine Under the Genocidal UN Gun Embargo since they did not give a flying F-ck About it!!! When $hit got real we send them back “on remmont”!❤ NOW THAT IS MORE THAN A FRIENDSHIPP!
Those ARE 2 Nations Brothers in Arms!!! :Salut:
It wouldnt last a second with the enemies air defence😂😂😂
We had these at Davis Monthan air base in Tucson Arizona back in 1983.
Do what it does best?
You mean… Friendly fire..?
The sound is crazy when it shoots
The A-10 can undo that 30 minutes of work in about 18 seconds. BRRRRRRT! 😎
I see a lot of proud USians here. But remember folks A-10 didn’t save you from the cave dwellers of afghan
..? Just because it didnt do something doesnt mean its cool
@@yourlocalboatymade with tax payer's money, not to be cool but to serve its purpose when necessary. It utterly failed against the army wearing flip-flops. Lol
@@cursedlycan9925 Tell me the reason why the A10 has armor piercing shells. I dont think soldiers wearing flip flops need that.
@@yourlocalboaty honestly good question given it cant penetrate the m47 pattons, a tank built from 1951 - 1960
@@bachibak ..? It can penetrate that tank, maybe not on the strongest of front armor, but at that angle its rather uncommon. usually in realistic scenarios the A10 would probably either come from behind or from the sides and there it can penetrate the tank. even late cold war tanks it can penetrate at certain spots, or atleast cause an M-kill. that not even counting in the uranium insert armor piercing rounds. Im not saying that the A10 is effective now and should be used, it had its time and now its over, or atleast just use modern AGM's or bombs.
Massive?
Lowwww taper fade
Man In my next life I'm coming back as a Warthog. Freaking Awesome machine.
"remember, calling another support plane is faster than reloading your A10"
Hey Sam i just want to say i love your videos and we are learning about jets at school and your facts helped me so thank you
Hearing the a10 dragon deez nuts around is what makes it special
“One spins to make something clean, the other spins to make something disappear”
This is one plane I have always wanted to fly. They probably shouldn’t put any ammo missiles or bombs on it for me.
That plugs in and goes to 100% capacity faster than my phone battery 💀
Bro sneaked into the military by jumping the side of the freeway to record bts for us 💯😭
I can't hear a-10warthog without thinking of that darn advertisement
That thing wiped me clean in warthunder as a naval unit 😂
The tank busting cross of death will forever be my all time favorite jet!
Reminds me of the time my boss sent a load of conveyor chain back out, because he said it was loaded backwards. The people outside turned the car around the other way, and sent it right back down to him.
Every time I hear "30mm amunition" all I can think is thousands of axle sockets for my car flying out of the front of the plane towards the ground 🤣👌
Rare footage of an a-10 being fed bullets for breakfast:
I only heard about A-10 Mohanlal. 🔥 മോഹൻലാൽ
And 12 seconds later, it has to go reload 😂
"Allowing the A-10 warthog to do what it does best… friendly fire and war crime"
Crazy how the A10 has become so capable that the gun is its secondary weapon
Ah yes loading the gun up takes 30 minutes, shooting the bullets takes a whopping 16 seconds
“Enemy Camp on the mountain!”
“Roger that. Removing the mountain.”
Ironically, it takes much longer to load the gun than it takes to empty it!😂
"allowing the A-10 to do what it dose best"
You mean miss identifying friendly forces and strafing them
This incomparable ground-attack aircraft was built around that gun. Long Live the A-10!!!
Anyone else see the structural vice grip pliers 😂 that military spec right there
“What it does best “
Little kid : “what does it do “
Dad:”rain hell child “😂
This dragon does not breath fire, but it does feed the fuel for fire to a fire breathing hog.
Hearing the A-10 fire it's rounds will scare the heck outta you if you are near...IT'S A DRAGON! Sounds like a big burp....
Every other airplane on earth: “Here’s a plane, let’s slap some guns on it”
The A-10: “Here’s a gun. Let’s slap some wings on it.”
When I was a vulcan gunner we could up 500 20 mm rounds in under 2 minutes ,the dragon is way too slow
The A10 will also keep all the spent shells instead of dropping them in order to keep them from interfering with any external engine parts and keep the weight distribution balanced.
You can tell the amount of explosive and the insane rate of fire by the gigantic puffs of smoke it emits!
Awesome tech, glad I found this video.
Thật tuyệt vời ❤❤ cảm ơn bạn đã chia sẻ❤❤
Well, now we all know that, in order to take out an A-10, you just target the Dragon, rendering the A-10 a flying vasectomy
That's not a airplane. That's a flying cannon. Impressive isn't it.
I used to work at an aerosol filling plant… this is the new most explosive conveyor belt I’ve ever seen.
