Highly Motivated checks all the boxes. Of course, he still has uncertainties. It's not like he's the chalk and even chalks have uncertainties. Any horse with odds that high will have question marks. Was his last race a fluke? Did he use too much from it? Did he peak? Does he want 10F?
He's probably going to go off to 10-1. Perhaps lower now after you all read my posts and my comments on UA-cam telling everyone to bet on Highly Motivated. ;-) The numbers are right in front of you. He's one of the fastest horses and a son to the hottest sire of the last 2 years.
Fast for his crop? Check.
Fast closing times? Check.
Gutsy? Check.
Nice odds? Check.
Javier Castellano? Check.
Not Godolphin? Check.
Not Luis Saez again? Check.
Good name for a Derby winner? Check.
Big and handsome? Check.
Son to a sire who produced a Derby winner? Check.
If he barely lost to Essential Quality, his odds shouldn't be three times larger. EQ isn't three times better than him no matter if EQ is undefeated. Highly Motivated is "The One". At least for me. I'm just praying he doesn't get the #1 post. I'm ok with any other post position. Even #17 and #19. My preference is from #4 through #16. If he gets a bad one, then I'll throw either $70 to win on EQ or $30 to win on KA. A lot can happen those final minutes before post time.
Known Agenda was a horse I initially liked the most but he got whipped way too many times in the Florida Derby. And the closing time was still slower than the Blue Grass. Add the fact he already lost to Highly Motivated as a maiden, lost by 9 lengths in the Remsen, and finished behind Hidden Stash in the Sam Davis. The same Hidden Stash who recently lost by 10 lengths in the Blue Grass. I don't trust Tampa Bay results which is why I'm not sold on Helium either.
Hot Rod Charlie is this year's sucker's horse. We had an Indian Charlie in 1998 who was the favorite but who couldn't beat a more proper Derby winner's name in Real Quiet. It's like Tiz The Law not beating Authentic twice at 10F last year. I love my dog, Charlie. Love the name Charlie but not Hot Rod Charlie for a Derby winner. HRC is this year's My Boy Jack.
