Good video. There’s no way I’m waiting 18,000 miles to change the oil on a dual turbo car. Especially on an N54 that makes the kind of heat those engines make.
No doubt. Doubt many of these are still on the road that actually went 18,000 miles between oil changes. I’ve argued these absurdly long “factory recommended” oil intervals with people for years. Keep in mind the manufacturers aren’t interested in keeping cars on the road. They just want the car to make it out of warranty and then sell you another one shortly after. Recommending this should surely guarantee another sale for them if the consumer actually follows it.
You need to change the filter first and then drain the oil. That way the oil that is in the filter goes back in to the crankcase and you drain it with the rest of the oil.
wronggg!! you need to drain it first before removing the filter, there is still pressure being held at the filter and the oil sitting in the filter housing will be coming out.
I have the 2008 335XI N54 and I just watched an N54 oil change video (4 min oil change) and I saw that on his car the oil drain plug and pan was on it's side/ Meaning it was sideways instead of facing down. I would guess this is the difference between the XI and Non XI. The oil pans are not the same as the front wheel s that are driven go through the engine or at least the oil pan and into the front differential which is on the side of the engine/oil pan area. Just a small informational bit to clear it up if anyone wants to know. But then again I'm NOT an expert like this man on this video is so perhaps I've gotten something incorrect.

@@CR-xv8wm Yes. Instead of planned obsolescence it’s more like forced obsolescence.

@@G30Dozawhy not take the filter out, drain the oil, then install the new filter?
Take the filter out while the drain plug is out. That’s what I do anyway.
How is no one talking about the sloshing sounds they added in with editing when they put the old oil on the o rings 😭😭😭
18k is a bit much I try to do it every 5k miles.
Best video I’ve seen, but agree with oil filter drain first. Safety glasses with that caustic spray!
