I actually prefer this MV over Pink Venom because this is much more clean and polished. You can focus on the girls, the sets and the song without being distracted by crazy visuals
Some people are really disappointed bc they reused sets, bc it didn't feel new, it felt "lazy", or "YG is lacking imagination", etc. But NO. They're missing the point. This is genius to me. They are not really reusing sets per say. They are shifting to a different era by saying goodbye to their past songs and continuing world domination. And everyone's rapping ! That's new ! It slapped, IDC. It freaking slapped and it's art. And the fact that they used a classical sample and nailed it ! Gosh, I just loved it. It felt new, it hit hard, but it also felt nostalgic too in a way.
I don't think they're necessarily saying 'bye' to those eras. I see it as them using those eras as examples of when haters tried to tear them down, but showing that they only kept getting better each time. Lisa bringing back her sword and literally slashing records with it is just showing that they are still breaking records now. Rosie sitting on a global that is now black and pink shows that they now dominate the World.
Right as you can see, they were shutting down their past sets and goes to another level when they went in the elevator and rosé clicked "UP." That means new level and just getting up from now on.
i have a theory that they referenced their old MVs to symbolize the way they say your life flashes before your eyes before it ends because this could be meant to be their disbandment MV/song
ISTG everytime they change it up it's so good. I loved Lovesick Girls so much because it was different, and I love Shut Down because it's different. I needed this to be more like this and I'm glad!
They’re in a storage facility and all their old videos are in each locker. They are shutting the doors on their older videos and haters and going up a level to a new floor. I love it!
When I heard they sampled a violin version of LIszt's 'La Campanella' (one of the hardest classical pieces of all time to play), my jaw dropped. This is absolutely a huge middle finger and almost evolution of the group from the simple formula they used to always have commercial success with. Their new experimental sounds with Pink Venom, Shut Down and the entire album are so good and well organized that I feel like they've gotten over the old ways and really exploring new niches in kpop!
The La Campanella sample is genius and so new for BP. Classical music really brings the elegance/excellence to one of the heaviest hip hop groups in the biz 10/10. Also allll the references to the past MVs was fire
i love shrek and it's not the his fault at all but you gotta admit most of his title tracks after 2017 are very repetitive and only a few songs actually stand out, this one included. The reason why so many people love old shrek 1 is because their title music used to be versatile eg. Whistle, As if its your last, Playing with Fire, Stay. I believe the producers saw the success of Boombayah and just tunnel visioned on that formula. (Not to say i hate any of bps music in the past 4 years cause i do love a few, however, they should have made some of their bsides title tracks to break up the repetition, Lovesick girls would have been such a good title track imo) I'm enjoying Shut Down a lot though and I'm keen to see what the next era bring!
Okay so I preferred this song to Pink Venom by a LOT. It's just such easy listening and I kid you not, I DIED when Jisoo started to sing the chorus. Her deeper vocals just hit the eardrum so beautifully.
The old sets and props have been "upgraded", the pier Lisa dances at, is no longer on fire, the LED screens are doubled from the Boombaya video and now they're in a bad ass car instead of Vespas, Jennie's tank is even more blinged out, Jisoo's umbrella is no longer on fire and it's raining money, Rose's sitting on a world (Whistle) that's now Black and Pink, Lisa's dump truck no longer has trash , but designed luggage and shoes, Lisa's using her Blackpink sword to slash/break "records"......I"m sure three' more throwbacks' but the message is clear, it's a Blackpink world and we're all just living in it.

@@johnbignold960 This! BP songs have felt really similar these past few comebacks. Same formula, same catchy pop. Shut Down has easily become one of favs just cos of how different it sounds.
This song is a slap to haters and "fans" who can't move on from old BP music and saying they are repetitive. Yet whenever they give something new they get criticized for sounding different than their old style. They're shutting it down cause this is a new era. 🔥 "Keep talkin', we shut you down."
shut down is a straight up banger! didn't need to listen to it more than once, it was so good on the first listen! pink venom got replaced by shut down quickly as my favorite blackpink track. and them recreating some of their previous mv scene but making it grander because they're the only one that can outdo themselves is such a strong reference

I didn't know it's possible for Lisa to have even more confidence and charisma. Her vocals??? Shookt! Especially on the Happiest Girl and her rap in Typa Girl??? Girl is mad! LISA PROVES SHE'S AN ALL-ROUNDER, AN ACE JUST LIKE WHEN THEY'RE TRAINEES! I'M SO PROUD OF HER
I just noticed it now. The ending scene where the girls entered a whole new "storage/warehouse" area? It might mean new songs are in there, waiting to be unfold.!! Genius!!
It's like they're at the zenith of their powers. All their iconic moments are now visually black and/or pink; Jenni in black for the match scene, in a black bathtub, with a black match and pink flame, the black/pink earth from Whistle, Lisa's truck scene all black and pink, Jisoo's umbrella now pink with black lines instead of black and it's raining money instead of sparks, Rose's black car from Kill This Love is now a pink Lamborghini and the chandelier is now black, Lisa's samurai sword is now black and pink and she doesn't even have to swing it to be a record-breaker (notice that the colour of the 'record' is black and pink, and it has their signature backwards C, suggesting the only records they need to break are ones set by themselves). They're stronger now so they can shut the door on that past era. They have also put up their black pink tape and posters all over 'Your Area' in the street scene. The only way for them to go is 'Up', which is what they do at the end of the video. They enter the elevator into the fresh white space which will have new iconic moments waiting to be unleashed and 'shut down' next. My favourite song and music video from BlackPink!
Just found out the scene of the dock at night with the lit up rain was Lisa’s idea! They credited the girls as creative directors for this come back. Lisa’s creative vision is immaculate 🤯
I think pink venom was literally the ending song of their musical style, that's why there was so much fuss that Pink Venom was the same old thing, they were literally saying goodbye to their musical past to make way for a new era with Shout Down , and that can be seen in the video where literally in that white corridor we see the doors that they closed from their previous MVs, implying a goodbye to their previous musical structure, they literally created a whole drama with pink venom to shut their mouths with Shout Down 🤭 I was pleasantly surprised with his comeback 💕

Honestly, I think this is their best content yet. Jisoo and Rosé as sorta rappers sets a new bar. And the fact that it was so different from their usual go-to, made this iconic in its own way.
The whole album is a complete package with every song has clear direction and idea. We get the usual BP formula in Pink Venom, the BP anthem in Shut Down, Black vibe in Typa Girl and Tally, Pink vibe in The Happiest Girl, Yeah Yeah Yeah, Ready for Love, and also rock pop Rose in Hard to Love
Definitely one of the best comeback track they come up with in a while. It shows the original color that Blackpink have, and redefined the girl crush concept. Hard hitting beat that defines "Black" and classical string that defines "Pink" is mixed really well.
YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT THE B-SIDES! Shut Down was a festival, but some of the B-Sides are even better, such as Yeah Yeah Yeah, Hard To Love and The Happiest Girl! Such an incredible album :)

jisoo blows me away every comeback but i have been WAITING for her to have a song that she fully dominates and when i tell u i was NOT expecting it to be Shut Down???? omfg.
Glad to see them changing up their structure a bit! edit: perhaps my wording was a little off, my b basically the song is different from their usual and that's cool
i love the replay value of this song, ive listened to it so many times on repeat and because it is a bit simple it makes it easier to re listen to and it easy to get stuck in your head. This is my new fave BP song hands down
The shot where they're in a circle and the camera is going around them is a call back to As If It's Your Last. I love all the references to their past video's.
the camera idea in Jisoo's part... what I understood is, before people were controlling her narrative, waiting for her fall, now she's the one in control, telling her truth and not giving a single f* for what people think. There's this other track on the album Tally that pretty much confirms it 😊
I just wanna say thank you to Form of Therapy for being so steadfast in uploading!!! Like fr, how are y'all so fast yet so thorough?? Seriously, thank you Form of Therapy crew and PD for NEVER MISSING on these quality videos!❤☁️
7:00 I love that it's the opposite of the original shot in "Playing with fire", where this set is from. Lisa is dancing in the reain, whereas in "Playing with fire" she stands there pretty calm and the fire surrounds her.
I love how every set in the MV referenced to scenes in their past MVs (even the way they transitioned were mimicked) This one is on my top 5 tracks on the album. *La Campanella* is always
I loved this more than I had expected. I only saw the teaser once but I expected ur typical Spanish influenced song, but it wasn't!!! Its great!!! I love the vibe & the style.
at first i didn't really like this song but you explaining it and listening to it again, you opened my eye PD!! ty. can't wait to see them live in Hamilton, ON WOOOOOO
Throughout the music video we see their old sets in garages and the members shutting down the garages. Towards the end they leave that whole garage entirely and go in the elevator, a level up, signaling leveling up to a new era of blackpink.
I agree with you PD. Definitely my favorite Blackpink title track and music video! I love how the music video was relatively simple, gave enough room for the girls to take over the frames and enough stillness in some frames without extreme fast cuts that don't allow us to see them clearly. Plus, the choreo shots were also very well incorporated with the girls' individual and group shots - LOVE IT!
I am so excited to see them perform the new album in concert. I got a VIP ticket for the Paris concert. Every one is going crazy about Blackpink in France today
This song Shut Down and Pink Venom will always be remembered by fans! When they hear the songs they will definitely sing and dance to it! Those two song will never get old and will keep popping constantly in your area. Even when I heard both song I immediately dance and sing along.
This song made me check out the album, otherwise I would've skipped it entirely because I really disliked Pink Venom. I'm glad I did, I felt the entire album outside PV was more accessible to non-BP fans who disliked their general title tracks and style of music. I'll probably go pick up and album when I get the chance to head to a brick & mortar store. While the instrumental hook wasn't as extensive as Feel My Rhythm from Red Velvet, it at least made me stick around instead of leaving, so there's that. This is easily the swaggiest title track from them for me and easily my favorite.
yg (their management) tends to select the flashy, controversial songs as pre-release songs to attract attention, the (majority of) b-side songs are usually much more accessible and less polarising so i see where you're coming from. glad to hear that you liked some of their new songs!
@@mochiyeosang1908 perhaps i should've worded bit a bit differently, it's not only the pre-releases that are the 'loudest', but songs that yg pushes each comback. for born pink its pink venom, the album it was how you like that, for square up ddu-du-ddu-du is by far the most flashy one (forever young and the other 2 songs on the album are more accessible for non-kpop fans) & the same goes for kill this love; the leading song was really a standout one, don't know what to do, kick it and hope not are less striking
That violin sound is from Paganini's La Campanella. Kinda gives a orchestral vibe to it. Reminds me of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody with its "Operatic" vibe. Love it!
Bringing their previous MV concepts back is like saying "The only one who can copy them, BLACKPINK is BLACKPINK themselves." People are just merely missing this point. This is a Diss Track. If you're mad then it's for you. Hahahahaha
I also love this song so much, it's pretty lay back, and just so chill.. It's so simple, screaming "this is YG, this is Teddy, this is Blackpink" reminding me to their debut with Whistle. Love it
i kid u not this was my fav bp cb since D4. THIS was the different yet bp sound i was wanting from them. this had everything i've wanted from them for a while. ALSO i love the simplistic vibe the mv has while being EXTRAVAGANT. like this mv does justice to the song by not overpowering the song itself. THIS MIGHT BECOME ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAV BP SONGS.
Yas the mv is my favorite from them. And it's my favorite title track too. I love how the mv sets are less stuffed. With their past sets it was too overwhelming like there was not space to breathe. This was simple yet efficient. And the song is just chef's kisses. No word. The perfect blend between their black and pink side. Full choruses are my favorite so this was a serve. And of course the outro. Their best one. I'm a sucker or instrumental having their moment to shine. This was perfect
If this doesn't have a performance/dance video I am going to be so sad!! I'd love to see each girl dance their own 'section' and Lisa NEEDS to dance this dance on the boardwalk. She's just so hip-hop at her core.
Oh that shot on the intro which is truly cinematically badass is Lisa's idea! She confirm from the MV making that she said she wants to do it with water instead of fire, her mind. Creativr director Lalisa has a cb 🤗
From a corporate standpoint, I wonder if they referenced all of their previous videos here to garner more views (revenue) on those videos as people go to revisit them to look at the comparisons.
Now i want to hear those people saying they want something different from BlackPink. But of course if they're a hater they will still have something to complain about it.
This is the comeback we needed in a long time, it has a different yet nostalgic feel to it. If only yg put more focus onto the development musical aspect of their career more frequently, the things we could have had.
I love that you mentioned that the four of them sing in the chorus! That's one of my favorites parts of this song too. Kinda wish they keep doing that/they did that before.
The reaction to this MV and Song divides true fans and fake fans lol. This was such a love letter to the patient fans who just support them and stay regardless of circumstance or activity.
The fact that they sampled Paganini for this song means that it will actually never leave my brain because I get it stuck in my head and then I hear Lisa rapping in the background 😅
It is a farewell. A farewell to their haters, their previous styles that people labeled them with, the rest of the K-Pop groups, and other artists as a whole. Those things shall remain on the floor below BLACKPINK as they are no longer relevant or can match their superiority as the biggest girl group in the world. Done that, been there. They're shutting it all down and going up to the next level. As we can see, it's another big empty floor with new shutters that will house their new signature sounds in the coming future. It's a whole new revolution again, so brace yourself, ya'll!
I was not expecting this type Of come back from the girls. It’s definitely really different. I love how they incorporated some classical music I really like classical music so that was different in general. This whole music was different. This was not what I was expecting from the girls but I think they handled it very well. The album itself is very beautiful. Well packaged well made it has a lot of emotions to all the songs, but right now my favorite song is still pink venom just because I still found love with it right from the beginning. I love all the other songs by Pink Venom is still my song. But the girls did an excellent job as they always do and I cannot wait until all the albums that I pre-ordered come to me
I love the outfits because if you think about it bright colors is kind of a warning that an animal can be poisonous which kind of plays into the fact that they're trying to be intimidating.
I am loving this comeback. Even though HYLT and Lovesick Girls are some of my favourites from them, this song blew me away, and reignited my love for BP's boundless talent.
Im kinda low on pink venom and makes me think i might just have a really high expectation but now i get it was more like a advertisement virus/plague or preparation for this bomb. And that center Jisoo dance break near the end is a icing on the cake.
When it first leaked people on Twitter were saying it was bad so my expectations were low but once i heard it i was in shock ! This took the spot of my favorite Blackpink song. Love it so much
I'm really saying they just hate everything that is BP. And most of them were kpop fans during BP's 2 years hiatus. do whatever it takes to upgrade their favorite band. I just sat there laughing, no matter how hard they tried, the world always approached BP.
'some' fans are disappointed because for THEM it's not catchy or like a boom beat but they missed the meaning of the song! I felt goosebumps! This song is said that now they are on top of the world dominating the industry. Here's an example have you seen the globe of Rosé? It's just a globe before in 'whistle' but now Rosé is with BLACKPINK globe! Means world domination 😝🤯
Those some fans just cant be fully satisfied. I stumbled one blink that complained about "blackpink in your area" is being overused😅 omg it was so dumb arguing with them. Its blackpink's catchphrase and they want blackpink to stop saying that in their song??🤨 Thats when i realized those kind of "fans" can never be satisfied no matter what BP release.
Your reaction from the first, when the strings begin and the bass hits... Thev reaction and face you made says it all. They came for the throat on this one. Gotta remind others why they StayOnTop
Using past references as character build up just like Jisoo on ddd era where she wore pink wig . She had overcome her struggle on the pressure of society and Became much stronger now.
I guess those who doesn't like this MV and said it's too simple and look cheap is not a real fan that know BP well. IMO I like this MV the most, they are genius when you incorporate the set, the lyric with and the ref from their previous MV altogether. WOW..... just amazing... Love it.

The reason why so many people love old shrek 1 is because their title music used to be versatile eg. Whistle, As if its your last, Playing with Fire, Stay.

@@persephonevids yup exactly my point~

I was fascinated by the scene where Lisa moves in the rain. with the sound of the violin It made me very immersed. even for a short time
Honestly, I think this is their best content yet.

The shot where they're in a circle and the camera is going around them is a call back to As If It's Your Last. I love all the references to their past video's.
For sure, also Dudu dudu at the starting screen :D
the camera idea in Jisoo's part... what I understood is, before people were controlling her narrative, waiting for her fall, now she's the one in control, telling her truth and not giving a single f* for what people think. There's this other track on the album Tally that pretty much confirms it 😊
The La Campanella main melody sample is sick. Simple, yet screams just how big they are, kinda ironic as La Campanella means "The Little Bell".

Throughout the music video we see their old sets in garages and the members shutting down the garages. Towards the end they leave that whole garage entirely and go in the elevator, a level up, signaling leveling up to a new era of blackpink.
I had quite the same reaction when I first heard the kick in the beginning. I even had to pause for a sec before listening back to it.. What a track.
This sound is more mature it shows their growth so much. I really am proud of them.
@@HelloWorld-kt7jk other than hylt and pink venom what other prereleases have there been?

Hahahahaha
“If you’re mad, stay mad, we are not alike, SAVAGE, keep it pretty pretty savage” they put their money where their mouth is 😊
I also love this song so much, it's pretty lay back, and just so chill..
Laughing from hysteria from how good this is, is the correct response
The rain was actually LISA'S IDEA 😍
She requested rain instead of fire.
Creative director Lisa's mind is fire 🔥
I had the same reaction as you! This song SLAPS, and it quickly became one of my all-time favs. Jisoo in this comeback is just something else🔥
On initial I listen I thought it lacked something but honestly. Coming back to it now I absolutely love this track
my first thought when i listened to this song was "oh my god pd is going to ADORE this"
I'm likin how they recreate a whole new song from a classical piece "la campanella"
This is the comeback we needed in a long time, it has a different yet nostalgic feel to it. If only yg put more focus onto the development musical aspect of their career more frequently, the things we could have had.
Yes, that's amazing song. I love the song, love the violin mix with the beats. It's so beautiful.
we’ll see how it holds up but right now it’s up alongside playing with fire as my favorite BP title track. it just sounds so damn good.

The song SLAPS. They never have flops. LITERAL QUEENS 💗🖤
One of the best reactions of this mv. You understood and explained a lot of the nuances very well.

I love how they incorporated some classical music I really like classical music so that was different in general. This whole music was different. This was not what I was expecting from the girls but I think they handled it very well. The album itself is very beautiful.
But still, it feels like the majority prefer shut down over pink venom so those "some" are just nitpicking.
