I’m so happy for watching this. As a Brazilian person I think Susie does need to receive more recognition. Although I didn’t like her as a child, nowadays I admire Susie cause she’s a diva 💅
Brazilian living in Canada here. Brooke you did so well, we love seeing people trying to speak Portuguese. I understood everything you said it, so don’t worry we got the message! Just wanna let you know that I’ve been here since you used to make videos in your basement years ago. Keep up with the great work you do. Lots of love from up north.
love how you can tell she's genuinely happy/ grateful for the dolls other than other doll youtubers where they fake reaction's. that's why I loveeeeeee herrrr
Love Susi! She’s actually a doll that started being sold by Estrela right after Tammy had been retired by ideal in the 60s. Because of that, Susi had lots of cute late 60s/mod outfits to start out with. They had used the same mold as Tammy during the first few years of production & eventually switched to the inset eyes soon and an “faz pose” or possible body soon after. Since, at the time, Estrela also had a lisence with Mattel to make Barbie’s a few of their releases shared the same fabrics as Brazilian exclusive Barbie’s in the 70s.
Also, Coisa de Moriá has a video that has a rundown of the history of Susi. It’s in Brazilian Portuguese but the auto translation is pretty good! The video is called Boneca SUSI: Anos 90 vs Atual!
Susi used to be the licensed version of Tammy released in Brazil by the toy company Estrela. The first versions in the 60s looked just like Tammy, but later on they would change her eyes to glass, inset eyes. Susi was the main doll sold in Brazil until Barbie was licenced to be produced by Estrela in the 80s. They stoped the production of Susi for a while until they decided to bring it back in late 90s. The versions you have I believe are from the 2000s when they changed the head sculpt again. I think it's safe to say they stoped producing Susi altogether, but Estrela has produced some reproductions from the 70s - and I have to say: they don't look as good as the vintage ones. I have a Susi from the 70s and she looks so different and unique, but, unfortunately, they're very hard to find.
Brazil mentioned!! Your pronunciation was really good!! It's so crazy to hear about guarana caçulinha in english because it recontextualizes it for me. It's such a classic thing in Brazil I never thought about it but it's crazy that we were getting surprise pokemons with our soda

the way you pronounced the words is sooo cute, as a brazilian, i've never been able to appreciate brazilian dolls that much, most of them are ways to capitalize on the celebrities image in brazil, so the options for original fashion dolls seemed kind of scarce. but i think you'll LOVE a line called driks, they're also made to capitalize on a celebrity, but they're a brazilian attempt to compete with bratz that ended up generating a lawsuit for plagiarizing the design lol. And I also think you'll love a line called cupcake surpesa, they have the same gimmick as that disney princess line that are cups of tea, but with the obvious difference that they are cupcakes lol, and they resemble more a strawberry shortcake, in size and also and in the guimmick of specific smells, and they even have some disney princess dolls too, try looking for them cuz I know you'll love them. loved watching your video
Wow I had no idea Driks was Brazilian? I know of them and have been wanting to find them for a while now! I’ve seen the cupcake dolls too - I wonder if those were licensed or if they originally came from Brazil? I don’t know anything about the ones that were available here! It’s just really difficult to find shopping sites or ways to purchase from Central and South American sites! I have a huge wishlist of dolls from Mexico with active sales listings but I can’t figure out how to actually order them to the US 😭 Brazil I haven’t ever tried unless I’ve found things on eBay because I just don’t even know where to start
@@xCanadensis I can't say for sure, but there's a website called shopee, it's very similar to aliexpress or taobao, so maybe it's a good starting point, and about the cupcakes, I can't say either lol, I was about 8 or 9 at the time so I didn't really delve into the licensing part, but it wouldn't be that surprising since the toy companies here work quite a lot with imports and licensing, but generally more popular releases in the US or EU, and I hadn't seen anything very similar until your haul video with the cute cups and everything, but they still have a very considerable difference apart from the gimmick

at 27:55 u mentioned the fabrics, the one on the doll with the short dress is the same fabric they used for the basic SSC doll here in the US. The longer dress uses the fabric from the berrykin strawberry shortcake
for museum clothing that needs to be stabilized they'll back it with a thin neutral fabric or fine mesh, i believe with small stitches if the original fabric will hold up to it. aim of the game there is to stop any further deterioration but also to be removable if needed. also the mcdonald's transformer's toys lived in my dad's office even though my older brothers would've been the ones to get them in meals. i'll roll back into my crypt now. XD
