  • M/S of Leonard Ponsford of Southampton at home sitting working at a table with various pieces of woodwork equipment used in his hobby of carving coats of arms spread out before him.
C/Us of him carving a wooden coat of arms; a shield with a lion either side and a scroll at the bottom. He picks up the carving and compares it with the design he has been copying from. C/Us and M/Ss of him carving again, working on the shield. M/S of Mr P comparing it with another, larger design on paper that he is working from.
Then he puts these down and picks up a polished wooden shield and fixes a large, painted badge to the front of it reading 'The Cachaots'. He places it on the desk to admire it, then carries it to a wall in his hallway where many other shields are hanging. He fixes this new shield to the wall then stands back to look at them all. The commentator tells us that Mr P mostly makes shields for contemporary subjects, such as pigeon clubs and schools. C/Us of the colourful shields on his wall read 'Terra Marique Floremus'; 'Dieu et mon droit'; 'God is my help'. M/S of more shields.
C/U of a painted model tiger on a desk, panning to a replica coat of arms on a shield that Mr P made of the Southampton Harbour Board, where he works as a clerk. C/U of a magnificent painted crest of Southampton that he recently completed.
Note: There is some interesting documentation on file including newspaper cutting and cameraman's notes.
