Hey man I know that learning about keeping fish is best by actually keeping them, and I don't want to go off on you about how the tank is, but doing research would have helped a lot in this setup. One, you need to let everything settle, like the sand, etc. Two, you would probably want a bigger filter for that kind of fish, and you need to let the tank cycle (which is letting everything settle, and adding bacteria to the tank, you can look it up online for the right stuff to put it in and the methods people use, and it will take a week for a 10g, maybe longer for bigger. Three, you need a wayyy bigger tank, like a 55g, preferably a 120g. Four, logs, driftwood, and caves are really good for these kinds of fish because its' like the lake they actually live in. Hopefully the fish will do ok. Just letting you know what I think you needed to do and I don't want to complain about you not knowing because it does help going through problems to learn about keeping fish. Best of luck in keeping the fish and fishing! - Jake
For real. My son has a 20 gallon tank and it's just for three goldfish and has plenty of caves and logs to hide in with a more heavy-duty aerator and filter. I was worried if even that was enough space for them to be comfortable but seeing the fish they got being put into such a small tank kinda' gave me a wtf moment. I figured they'd keep the smaller ones for such a tank but was surprised when they went with the bigger fish.
Great bonding activity with your son :) love to see this kinda stuff. also really cool that he got to participate in getting his birthday present. I'm sure it will be a really fond childhood memory for him.
I keep 30 plus creek chubs alive in 3 gallon "Glo Fish" I got 5 crappie (less than an inch) in another 3 gallon. A lot of maintenance but always have bait for my 5 acre lake / pond
REEF REACHER 2 Steve Miller nice man! I have a creek near me and t has many creek chub when It rains I have 2 in my pond and 3 in my tank there was 12 but some jumped out
One time I had 4 baby bass about 2-3 inches in my tank. It was legit the coolest thing ever. Caught minnows for them to eat and got to watch them blow up on em. Even had a baby crappie in it at one point. Would definitely think about getting a 50+ gallon tank and doing something like that in the future. Bet your son would have a blast having that in the house. But it does depend if it's legal in your state.
The aquarium you bought is about 3x too small for that fish. He WILL die if he doesn't have a bigger tank. Also, you need a quarantine tank to clear him of disease from the lake, a cooler or heater to regulate temperature (I don't know a lot about sunfish), a filter with proper media, proper hides in the tank for the fish (Or they may kill eachother) Also, wild caught fish most likely will not eat regular store bought fishfood, so you need to make sure they get proper nutrition. Also, wait until the aquarium is clear and has been cycling with proper water levels for at LEAST 24 hours before you add your fish. I am also not an expert, but I have done my research because I love fish. I also have had and have several pet fish. Just giving you some basic guidelines so this fish can survive.
They keep bluegills as pets in Europe. They require a very large tank (at least 40 gallons, preferably 100), and are considered fairly hard to keep because they are aggressive toward other fish.
Dude nice video but this tank is so small I would think that you can put the little ones in this tank but not those big ones sorry for my english I'm from Germany
The final of the video touched me! I wished I invested more hours trying to get in the fishing hobby, then in the streets! Take care of your son, blood 🙏
When transporting fish, try a couple of drops of clove oil in the bucket. It’s an anaesthetic for fish. Just run clean water over their gills until they get their strength back to revive them.
Doesn't have a big enough fish tank for Goldfish* "Ok, atleast he is semi responsible....." *Buys a 10gallon tank* 😑 Well I'm just glad you had fun with your son....
Hey if you guys are in or close by the Sacramento area, a great place to go drop casting (or casting for tiny fish) you should go to southside pond. There got lots of catfish crappy and bluegill.
Look I don’t know what’s with u haters I mean common this guys just trying to take this kid out for a good time and teach him fishing I know he did throw it a bit hard but there’s plenty of fish in the sea😃 he will learn
To all those people saying "teach your son some respect in creatures" or "get a bigger fish tank" well maybe he didn't have enough money! And he is only a kid! He doesn't know this stuff' I mean yeah, he should of been more careful but as I said he's only a kid.
When I was a teenager I had a 55 gallon aquarium and I had a couple bass and bluegill in it along with a small catfish. I just put some gravel and some plants in it and they loved it. I had a couple biowheel filters on it and it kept the water crystal clear.

Pack a cooler and camp out in your bathroom for a month. No breaks, have someone bring you food. That's about how it will be for that bluegill in a 10-gallon tank. Fkng unpleasant. Please get a larger tank, at least a 50 gallon.
The 29.99 10 gallon tank he seen first I actually just bought one yesterday and put a 2 inch long bluegill from my stock pond into it plan to raise it big then eat it and replace it lol
Mary Pollitt, dude I would recommend at least a 700-1000 gallon tank, yes they may have enough room to breath in a 55 but there quality of life is horrible
If you know emery park you should go there and bring a small net bc the fish there are super small and theres salamanders water spiders and cray fish you can swim there two

You will need a MUCH bigger tank like 40 gallons for 1 at least. Maybe some minnows or tropical fish might suit that size tank better.
