Yep excellent - left earbud stopped charging and this video fixed it. What a terrible design flaw, the internal battery goes below 1V and the charging circuit stops working. Sennheiser should be ashamed.

It's to protect you from exploding LiPo batteries. LiPos that have been discharged below 3 Volts should be discarded and replaced.

@@artursk2899So..... If you are correct, and I doubt that very much, you forget to charge them for a few months and they become bin fodder. If this is the case, there should be a warning in the paperwork or a notification in the software. They are much too expensive for this fault to be deliberate.

@@markjordan4593 actually this can happen with li-ion batteries. I had restored two batteries by using an external charger, granted, it was a long time ago, but the general idea is that even if they report they are empty, there is still some charge left, to protect the battery, once that charge is lost, you need to "jump start it", this might degrade it. I do not know about LiPo batteries, but it would not be unheard of. Sennheiser already claimed that there was an issue with their battery supplier, that is why they are exchanging defective ones with MTW4, if yours is dead and you still under warranty.

I fixed my MTW 3. My problem was finding a power source. I had one staring at me right in the face. An old battery for a UPS backup case. It had 8 volts on it. I used it to charge my right earbud which stopped working a few days ago. I jump charged it for about 2 minutes. Reassembled it, and put it back in the case.
Started charging immediately. After 5 minutes I wanted to check to see if any lights were blinking. The red light was blinking. That was the 1st sign of life. Put it back in the charger and charged it some more. Decided to pair both buds up and test for sound. Paired up with no problem. Connected it to the Smart Control app. Smart Control app showed only 20% charge for the bud I fixed. Before I had only 10% charge, so Im making progress. BTW on the sound test, the buds sounded great, like they were new.
Thanks so much for this video. Too bad I didnt try this sooner. Yesterday I ordered a pair of MTW 4 on Amazon.

I came across this and thought there was no way it would work... then I read all the comments and decided to give it a shot. Took a bit to disassemble the earbud, but heat gun on low setting definitely helped loosen the glue. I didn't have the standalone holder for 3 AA batteries, so I just used something I had with 2 AAs, loosely connected two copper wires I had to the ends of the batteries and to the connector ends of my multimeter (black to negative, red to positive), then held the leads where they are shown in the video for 3 minutes. Put it back together and problem solved! Thank you so much for this!

I was in the same position as many people here and this also worked for me! I'm not at all handy when it comes to electrical/DIY things, but I picked up a multimeter at the local hardware store and was able to work through the easy steps from this video. In case helpful for others, I did not have a heat gun and so simply used a hairdryer on low heat. I also didn't have a tray for batteries and so simply used the remote control for my TV to charge the earbud up from ~ 0.9V to just over 3.0V. It took a few minutes of charging in the case (with the case plugged in) for it to regain charge, but it's now working great. Thanks! Excellent video.

@@diplodocus3 I had the hairdryer on the lowest heat setting and holding it 2-3 cm away from the earbud. I applied heat for 15-20 seconds. You don't want to heat the earbud too much, so try after this much time. If it doesn't start to open up, give it another 20 seconds or so.

Did your procedure exactly in the same way you explained it in the video and it works great, perfectly !!!! Thank you kindly !!!! 🍺🍾
Would also like tò add a foot note:
My left earbud was measured at a pitiful 0.91 volts prior tò beginning the charging process and after the one minute mark was still only 2.8 so i decided tò let It rest for 5 minutes and then give It another one minute. That did the truck !
One minute charge, rest (only because the battery was effectively dead !), then a second one minute charge, put it in the charging case for several hours and now it's breathing again !!!! 💪👏👍

Carried out this fix on my left MTW3 which wasn't showing any signs of life. I didn't have any sort of AA, AAA battery options to hand, so used my portable USB charge pack (which was showing as outputting 5V) for 1 minute. Thank you for sharing this. I just tried it on a pair of white TW3s and it worked :-) I did use a small amount of heat from a heat gun to help open the case. The left bud was at 1.2V. RC helicopter controller had 4 AAs so I tapped +ve and -ve from 3 of them to give 4.5V. Waiting for the left bud to complete charge in the case (it's gone from 30% to 40% which sounds promising...). Quick tip for anyone attempting this themselves: If you don't have a "fancy" battery case like in the video or another 4.5V - 5V power source, you can just put the batteries in series (positive pole on negative) and tape them together. This should additively up the voltage.

Just fixed following the exact method. I purposely bought one multimeter from Mr DIY yesterday to fix the problem. When I refer back to your video, only I realised it is exactly the same which makes it much easier as I am not really an electrical person. My left earbud was about 0.8 V and I charged using A23 12V battery.

It works , thanx, left was all dead and ad 10% but made no connection , no lights , but now it turns on again and make connection and play sounds , for now it only charge to 80% but I let it on the power for a while to see if it goes up till 100

This was the fix I needed. Thanks! Worked like a charm, though I had to charge it for about 3-5min before I got high enough volts for it to turn back on when put together. 0.7/0.9vDC on my buds though. Were in storage for about 8 months.

This worked for me. I used a 9v and juiced my earbud for a minute which got me just over 3v on the earbud. That was enough to get it to charge in the case. I got the earbud housing open just by gently prying with my thumbnail. Awesome video. Thank you.

Thanks a lot @alex V . Sorry I don't know you name. The steps worked wonders. It fixed my headset. Right one had gone dead and this was a replacement set that Sennheiser had sent me against the flawed momentum 1 that I had bought
BIG BIG THANKS! Keep making such helpful videos.

This fix worked successfully for me.
However, three weeks after I asked for help from Sennheiser they came back with this:
    • Leave the earbuds in the charging case for at least 30 minutes.
    • If the battery is deeply discharged/the LEDs do not respond after half an hour, put the earbud in the case for 10 seconds, take it out for 5 seconds and repeat the process 10 times to reach the low charge threshold to overcome.
It's too late for me to try the approach of repeatedly putting the earbud in the case for 10 seconds but it might save someone else from the hassle of dismantling their earbud.

After 2 years, my left earbud was "dead", no LED light, no connection. I tried unpairing and factory reset (see the TW3 manual for the method). I had put on a larger rubber ring, and maybe didn't get it set into the charging case correctly? I pushed down on the two power contacts in the case, wiped the bud power connections and the case connections with a paper towel, and set the earbuds back in the case, plugged in USB overnight. They both work now!

Great video, thank you! I had the same issues and fixed the problem exactly as instructed. However, I think I might have put too much "heat" when dissembling, because now the upper part of the casing is going out very easy. Any suggestions how to fix it - should I use instant glue or is there another way?!

man, you made my day. I tried it with my Momentum TW 3 and it is working like a charm. I didn't have a setup to connect 3*1.5V batteries serial way. I used my power bank to do it which I was sure about it produces 5V and 4A.
After applying the fix, I also want to say something for Sennheiser. It is totally a bullshit! I've heard few things more ridiculous! So far, I was calling myself as an engineer. it is my profession. but I'm not anymore from today on if the system designer of that product have been hired with a fuck'n engineer title!
