1965 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S 273 One of a Kind

  • One of 2,994 Formula S optioned Barracudas built in 1965 and one of 117 with factory disc brakes (not dealer installed). In 1965 vinyl tops were installed on just 294 cars. The yellow color is a 999 code (special order) finish which is one of a kind on this car. The window sticker includes a listing of all options including AC, automatic transmission, radio with antenna, disc brakes, and vinyl top.
    Factory built and delivered to a Chrysler Regional Office and then sold to the first private owner in 1965 with 880 miles. This CA owner kept it for 25+ years until his wife/widow sold it. Complete disassembly and restoration by a former 1960s-70s Chrysler dealer to show winning condition retaining the original vinyl top, original door (interior) panels, dash, rear panels, using NOS or original restored parts carefully selected to make it the best it could be.

    You can tell Plymouth was not serious about performance with this car as they omitted basic dual exhaust. Wasn't even an option.

      Well maybe, but they were just warming up to the performance segment here which offered the 340 in 68, 340 6 pack in 70, the 440 in 69 for the Barracuda, and 440 6pack and 426 Hemi in the E body by 1970. Not a bad list of motors for the performance sector.

    273 couldn't nowhere match the Ford 289 or Chevy 283.

      Sure, but it was just Chrysler's warm up to some of the most potent V8 engines ever built.
