      It is a good tool but has it's limitations - when you get close to an obstacle, it does become warped slightly the closer it gets to the camera so it's difficult to position it close accurately. Not knocking it though, it's definitely useful.

      You should check out thunderf00ts latest video about the tesla truck. Turns out if you want an all-electric truck, they will be so heavy because of the batteries that they won't be able to carry almost any cargo. This is probably a good compromise though as you point out, stop and start traffic and driving in city centers is a good place to have semi-electric trucks.

    • @wolfhunter1232
      @wolfhunter1232 3 роки тому +22

      @@MrStocksw I am not a fan of this semi-electric stuff. It tries to combine to Pros but it also combines both Contras.
      So far as I read in a study, they estimated an increase of 1 ton weight for an full-electric battery driven truck compared to an diesel truck (Germany). The battery was estimated with 2.6 tons but since no engine and "no" transmission is needed, the total weight is only increased by 1 ton. To compensate the loss of weight, (some) truck (configurations) are allowed to have an additional ton of weight compared to their diesel counterparts here in Germany (probably also in the rest of the EU, don't know).
      But if you have an semi-electric truck you just add that weight. Yeah, you don't need a very big battery but you also can't go without an engine. In the long run, your engine needs to pull that extra weight, consuming more fuel. Trucks driving long distances are probably better suited with an only diesel power train, while trucks that only drive short distances are better suited with a full electric drive.

    • @vator_rs
      @vator_rs 3 роки тому +74

      @@neilnelson7603 Truck has one or few cameras on each side (front, rear, left, right sides) , computer takes the video feed from all cameras, projects them on a flat plane while making them seamless.
      The developers of the camera system then put a top view image of truck while making sure it lines up with camera systems and it's up to scale.
      Since the footage is recorded by wide angle cams, and then projected to a flat plane, the objects often look distorted and very big, which is one of the downsides since it could make a human look like it's the same size as a Semi Truck.
      That's how you get a seamless 360 view of your surroundings, in cars, it's usually just used for parking, but in trucks it comes really useful for having an overview if there is anyone around you or in a blind spot, which is my guess why this guy runs it all the time.
      If you want more info, just type 360 surround cam on youtube and you will get bunch of videos that explain it a bit better than I do.

    Blue bars mean recuperating i assume. At which point it starts to use the disc brakes as well ?, when the bars turn orange, or it stays electric only until whole bar is filled ?
    Probably needs some getting used to, since you can use the brake pedal much more to recharge battery instead of going for engine/airbrake right away like in classic truck.
    Double clutch transmission would be cool for this, the frequent and long shift interruptions probably feel a bit awkward in combination with electric motor.

    I would have thought you don't need to use the retarder because the brakes should be regenerative. It's having to start the diesel just to provide exhaust braking.... Most hybrids use gentle application of the brake pedal to engage regenerative braking up until a certain point which further pressure on the brake pedal actually applies the brakes.

    diesel engine takes over when speed exceeds 45 km/h or batt power drops , great concept but were long way from traveling just 5-8 km at a time , so diesel is still needed , is that engine fitted with cam brake instead of exhaust retarder

    Just as info for the interested. This truck has around 50kW/67HP and 250NM of electric power.
    Blue arrows on the dashboard mean good regenerative breaking, yellow means the the driver is braking too sharp and it cant regenerate all the energy.

    In my opinion you waste energy with the constant brake on the right of the steering wheel when you use it too strong. The engine kicks in to aid braking which could be stored in the battery instead of being wasted in the engine.
