How well does this work for a large and heavier gift? Like a long dragon alcohol bottle?
Depending on the strength of the paper. But i would still carry it from the bottom

yeah don't work so great with dollar store paper lol
ya, def have to put lighter items in the light weight papers, i grabbed heavy weight paper at costco one time and its great for heavier items

You can try doubling the paper
I double the paper every time unless it's a seriously good quality paper to begin with, I also keep my old cardboard packaging from like Amazon small wraps cover it in paper too and use in the base it gives that little extra support. If the gift is particularly heavy I will also glue a strip about an inch wide at top, making sure pattern covers it before I cut out holes for where handles are going.
I now make sure everything I'm giving to say oldest daughter is gift wrapped and bagged in an individual paper so instantly no mix ups with gifts happen.
I've been teaching craft at my church recently and I took a gift in for a friend's 50 anniversary in a band made bag about 5 weeks before Christmas, so many asked where I got it I eventually confessed if actually made it from gift wrapping paper, needless to say we had an impromptu class and several others have requested a repeat class or ten in the new session which I'm looking forward to no end
this why i love christmas.. its a gift hehehe belated merry christmas
