He's not wrong. Technically, the Big Boy is TWO engines in one. The front engine swings freely with the rest of the frame following shortly after. That's basically articulation in a simplified form.
Until now I never knew such engines existed. After I saw this video I went nuts trying to figure it out and then I found out about articulated engines. Great work!
Part of me wants a follow up to this of the big boy pulling a short freight train. Like a train that would be made by people in a post apocalypse. Just a semi random collection of freight and passenger cars and cabooses all stuck together semi hap-hazardly.
As a former worker on the RailRoad a big boy would be derailing on tracks like this especially at the broken rail. They were so heavy that they could only run on heavy rated well maintained tracks. They must have seen the center siding in east Debuque Illinois.
Too bad you didn't show the rails AFTER Big Boy passes. Big Boy is so massive and powerful that he straightened all the curves, flattened all the hills, fusion-welded all the broken rails, and reset the gauge to a proper 4' 8 1/2"
Unbelievable. I can not imagine somebody, somewhere, would be responsible for the condition of the track and safety of the locomotive and crew. Are there really lines in the US in that deplorable state?
It's unbelievable that the big boy could stay on the rails. I never would have believed how much side-to-side movement the boiler area has if I hadn't seen it myself !
Man, if this was my HO model, that engine would have derailed at the first bump! I've seen real tracks that look like this, and seen diesels driving over them without derailing, but they've got much shorter individual wheel-bases than the two engines underneath the Big Boy, and I feel like this wouldn't have been able to negotiate any of those wrinkles without popping at least one wheel lose...
This video has the "feel" of manipulation in as much as the loco & tender looks like a animation in some of the shots. I can't believe that anyone would be this reckless with such a valuable loco.
Can you upload this map to the workshop? Or can you please make a stock (No Paid for content) map? The map editor is too confusing and when I make bumps they are to severe.
