I find it interesting that Mario and party will turn around and attack behind themselves. It’s almost as if the developers thought they might put in some sort of mechanic where enemies do a “sneak attack” or something.
Doubt it. Mario and partners are always left on the stage and attack enemies on the left. Notice that when Yoshi uses gulp, he always walks to Grodus’ left for the attack, even when Grodus is right behind him. It’s most likely that attacks are always scripted that way since that’s how battles flow in normal conditions.
I think they just have a generalized system for "walk to this point, then use the attack," so that they don't have to create a custom animation for every possible enemy position and width.

Both I and my partner died at the same time from breaking out of ice at 1 HP, and the life shroom revived both of us. Opened my inventory, it's still there. Disappeared the following turn, don't know if it would've allowed me to use it
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but if you use the Power Jump and one-shot a Parabuzzy or a spiked Parabuzzy, they'll drop to the ground and die, but they'll stay in their idle animation. Plus if you kill any of the Spindia family while they're mini, their body will get stretched when they spin around.
I know this is super late and kind of unrelated but I came across something interesting (and dumb) earlier when I was doing a pit run. I had a Shell Shield on Mario and Koops was in Peril in the front of the line. I missed a Superguard because the fog messed with me a little. He moved to the back and Mario went to the front and the Shell Shield lifted itself. It didn't cover Mario again and he got hit. I didn't die but that would've been a really dumb way to go out.
What happens if you finish off Grodus while he's offscreen? Does he teleport back to give his dialogue or does the screen zoom in on where he "should" be but the text bubble points far to the left?
Once you get Ms Mowz in your party (an optional partner) you can steal items from enemies. So it'll be a grind feast of harvesting free Life Shrooms and making extra money to sell them.
Since TTYD is being edited, is anyone working on a Master Quest equivalent for it? I've always felt the bosses in TTYD after Hooktail were disappointments, difficulty-wise, and a lot of the chapters are drawn out with backtracking over actual exploration.
