Anyone who has flown Southwest Airlines knows this ordeal. 'Where am I supposed to be? What number are you? I'm 54. Oh, I'm 52.' You are now hated by a random stranger.
I only fly once a year and during the same holiday period every year so I usually can get first class especially when ordering early in Jan for a Dec trip and this skit is for real how it feels over the years. Usually there are at least 3 boarding groups ahead of me at this point. Usually it goes disabled/special assistance, then passengers with children under 2, then military service men, and then any elite members of the airline present before they get to first class which is group 1. They have also since combined first class with business class and mid elite levels for boarding group 1 on most airlines too so its just as long and crowded to get on and sit down as any other group as opposed to say 20 years ago. Airlines are getting crazy. I generally wait for everyone else to board anyways to make it easier on myself nowadays given my seat is at the front. If you want an exclusive experience with an airline nowadays without being in the military or disabled then you are better off just grouponing a private flight instead of wasting money on elite status or buying first class.
