- There's only one group of racists in the RPG hobby, & it's not the regular gamers.

So I’m assuming in the paper they left out the fact that a group of people mainly friends can sit around and play together. You know social interaction. And it can be a diverse group of people all uniting to fight a common evil. Wow that’s so racist to me lol
Just occurred to me and listening to your video, that when I took up d&d in 1975, you could play a HUMAN, gender unspecified, race unspecified or an elf or a dwarf. It literally didn't matter whether you were black or white male or female, Asian Latino or whatever, your stats were the same. I'd say we were 50 years ahead of our time.
"Sanitized"
Forgotten Realms has been sanitized from its original version
These videos is something I strongly believe that the D&D hobby needs to have. There are a lot of mono-ideas which are just parroted across the board and there isn't anything from an opposing view. I whole heartedly agree with you, and would absolutely like to see more. Thank you for taking the time to do this, it is really appreciated.
You got my like at "privileged white women and their beta males"
Gotta tell those beta males: "Soylent Soy is like estrogen. It's ESTROGEN!"
It’s so refreshing to hear someone from the logical real world talk. So tired of the leftists. They are all over Texas now not just Austin lol. Gonna buy all your books. Been smoking some 9 year old capstan in my Charatan tonight
Thank you! Glad to meet a fellow pipe smoker!
Grim Jim did an in-depth criticism of this study, while reading the actual paper, and that thing is full of verbose academic jargon that never seems to reach an actual point. The guy just walks backward from all his academic preconceptions about "systems"'and such and completely fails to grasp the point of the game. He just judges the rules as if players treat them as holy writ (as opposed to house ruling the shit out of them, as most actual gaming groups do) and assumes that just because a rule is written a certain way or using a certain terminology (such as "He" pronouns) it necessarily excludes that which isn't explicitly mentioned ("OMG! The Players Handbook doesn't explicitly state that I can make my character demisexual gender queer! This is systemic exclusion, NOOO!!!" 😭).
The guy even went as far as to judge (in typical SJW fashion) earlier iterations of the game, which were written at a different time, with editorial standards COMPLETELY different from today, by contemporary (SJW) standards. So that the D&D of today is somehow guilty of perpetuating the (IMO very real) "gender-binary" cuz books from DECADES ago used "He", exclusively, as the gender pronoun used to refer to players, GMs, etc. The whole thing read (predictively) like the guy hadn't join as table top session in his life, and wouldn't get what the game was about even if he tried.
PS: Love this type of content. Often see table top RPG related stuff, both dealing with the actual hobby, books reviews, etc. as well as videos dealing with SJW intrusion into the hobby.
VisionStorm1 Grim Jim did a good job. I just took a different approach.
Yeah, its a good approach as well. Just bringing up Jim, cuz so far his video has been the only one were I've gotten to hear what the study actually says directly, given that the study is behind a pay wall.
It's just like the trick that SJWs used a few decades ago to say IQ tests were racist, because one test included a picture of a tennis-net, a sport played "only" by Whites. It was a test from 60-70 years ago.
But that's nonsense now. There are tons of boring White sports aired on Sunday afternoons: tennis, golf, curling. Even the inner-city might have a passing familiarity with what a tennis-net is! :-)
Link to Grim Jim video?
Your comments in the video had me rolling. As they say, you look for something and you'll probably find it. Thank you for this video and exposing what we are seeing today in the hobby-sphere.
Thank you!
I just discovered your channel and I'm trying to devour the backlog of videos. I absolutely love this content and I wish I'd found you earlier. As to D&Dgate, I have been feeling it playing on the horizon as I've been reacclimating myself to the hobby - and yes I'd like to see it had out so it can be over and done with and things can heal.
8:41 [Story gamers] "The story they want to tell is: There is a Black woman who is a mighty hero -- The End! Right? There can't be any challenge, there can't be any growth, there can't be any development, because any of that implies that the character is less than perfect. So it has to be super-simple to triumph, and basically the only thing that really matters is the IDENTITY itself. This is an example of the kind of racism I'm talking about. [one-dimensional characters]"
@NoBoringChars Too many pronouns so I'm not clear. Whose writing? And which community doesn't like new things?
@NoBoringChars Oh, we like worthwhile change in a game, but there hasn't really been worthwhile change, not in decades. Our decades of perspective and experience allows us to compare and judge. RPGs were worked out well enough when gamers wanted the spice of risk, risk of character death, and were good at numbers, but in the age of helicopter parenting and over-sensitive, spoiled children, something went wrong with RPGs. They became less deadly, death was more and more avoidable, to the point where a Long Sleep fixes all your Hit Points? What IS that shit?
We recognize very bad developments that are taking the edge off RPGs: risk of death mollified, catering to greater illiteracy and innumeracy by letting in dumber players, over-concern with back-story rather than character traits emerging in play, and players trying to be co-GMs and dictating plot-points with the RPG Consent Form? What IS that piece of shit? They are foisting dumbed-down, inferior story-games on the fans, removing GM primacy, and trying to spare over-sensitive feelings. They should be building up player resiliency rather than dumbing down play, and also recognizing that there are winners and losers, victors and vanquished, the normal hierarchies of a fantasy setting.
Just stumbled across your channel digging around for OSR stuff, and while I don't agree with everything you state, I definitely agree that the criticism of your game is unfounded. Yes it's racist and sexist. Medieval Europe was racist and sexist! It reminds me of people getting offended by all the racial slurs used in Blazing Saddles, while being completely oblivious to the fact it was depicting how stupid racism is.
I'm all for treating people of different ethnicity, and gender with dignity and respect. But trying to retroactively alter history does more harm than good. We need the ugly examples of the past so we don't fuck up again.
"Racism" is a new term invented by Trotsky as a weapon vs his enemies. People in the Dark ages were not racist, no more "racist" than an African man is racist vs an Asian today..
@@Br1cht … you do understand that things can fit a definition, even if they existed prior to the definition being made? Also what possible point do you think you are making by saying an African man cannot commit an act of racism against an Asian man because why? Because you don’t think they would ever meet, or because they don’t know what racism is?
And there's yet one more reason why you have active shooters in school. Call someone a dog often enough, and they'll end up fearing their fangs.
Me alegro de que mencionases Aquelarre, es uno de mis juegos favoritos.
Un juego magnifico!
You´re an very brave #LatinX rpg pundit! Your #diversity is beyond the scale in your #multicultural sessions.
preach it brother
One only has to watch any of the D&D live plays on UA-cam to see that you are correct. So much blue & pink hair and PC-speak. D&D's own channel is unwatchable.
I would love to see live plays of your systems.
@NoBoringChars You make a fair point based on my original statement , which I think needs some clarification.
I also believe everyone should be welcome to play. The SJW takeover of D&D, however, discourages that. They have taken classic D&D away from an existing player base of marginalized people and made it so 'woke' as to be almost unrecognizable. It's not they who aren't welcome; it's that they play the victim role while excluding others.
@NoBoringChars Take over? Why take something from someone else and then marginalize them? Even worse, call the community you took from racists, sexist, etc.
Why did they have to 'take over' anything? Why not start their own SJW candy land RPG?
These people are crybullies. By claiming victimhood, they can hide their own hate and intolerance under a shroud of false virtue.
@NoBoringChars Thank you for your civility and understanding. Ironically, I really like your Candy Land idea. :)
I agree that there should be room for everyone at the table...literally.
I also really like your Classic vs Next Gen idea. It gives players options (agency) and could actually increase sales. It would also provide ample fertile ground for homebrews, crossovers, etc. In that way, the harmony we seek could happen organically instead of being forced and mishandled via the 'top-down' approach.
Do you, by chance, work in the industry?
RACE refers to a group of intelligent beings related by common descent or heredity. In D&D, Gary Gygax made a semantic error by using the term race when species would have been more precise. Prior to Gygax, JRR Tolkien made the same error. Tolkien was a professor of Medieval History, he was not a biologist. Different races may mate and have fertile offspring, while different species cannot successfully breed or if they do have progeny, these offspring will usually be sterile; i.e., horse + donkey = mule
It is not appropriate to compare hostility between coyotes and deer OR dwarves and elves as racist. Coyotes, deer, dwarves and elves are different species; therefore competition is a result of the natural forces of ecologies and economies.
If wood elf hates high elf that is racist. If wood elf hates mountain dwarf, that is natural effect of economics and ecology. Resources are scarce in a Medieval or pseudoMedieval society; therefore, species compete either violently or nonviolently for survival. Managing and role playing this tension is part of the charm of DMing and role playing.
When people talk about race I like to point out the fact that, if an alien species ever were to visit the Earth, they would likely see us as one group: Humans. They probably wouldn't much notice the differences that we point to and call, "race." No more would they see a lot of difference between one nation and another. They're all groups of people who are obedient (to some degree) to a much smaller group of people who have decided that they have the right to determine how other people are permitted to live their lives. Which, incidentally, is what the SJWs are trying to do: Determine how you should be permitted to live your life.
How much difference do you see between one fly and another? That's because you're not a fly.
@@MyName-tb9oz But we see and categorise differences among animal subspecies, often when it's not immediately obvious like human subspecies (races) are

Do you want to see what RPGs are going to become? Check out the game "Bubblegumshoe" from Evil Hat games, which is targeted at children (it's targeting a PG13 audience according to the intro), with a character with a "pansexual" mother (Why do her kids know what she puts in her mouth at night?) and a scenario called "Let's talk about sex" which " touches on current topics such as teen pregnancy, sexting, abstinence promotion, queer youth, and sex education debates".
For thirteen year olds? Fuck no. It all seems so forced and cringeworthy.
Evil Hat, I love you guys, but man you drank the koolaid. This is cancer of the highest order. Sort yourselves out.
CMDR Elton Poole I doubt anything by Evil Hat is going to be the future of the hobby. Sure, it's what they WANT the future to be, but the market will say otherwise.
I truly hope it isn't the future, but this is where the Marxist infection is heading.
We can all nip it in the bud by choosing where we spend our cash though.
I don't like your tone of voice...
-SJWs 🤣
Incredibly cold take. You're complaining about beta males and low test on a channel exclusively about fantasy role playing. There's nothing wrong with rpg but you give no critical analysis. There's a discussion to be had here, but this ain't it chief.
Why the fuck every time you say "LGBT" UA-cam captions is as "LGBTQ"? Shouldn't they go full speed and use something like "LGBTQXYZ+" then? And of course replace all your pronouns, criticism and swearing with... I don't know, text advertisements for Starbucks.
Sorry, sometimes I do need to see captions and UA-cam screwed it again.
Okay, RPG, we get it. You are upset about this one minor academic paper, which likely would not even be on anyone's radar if people like you and the perpetual victims at Brietbart did make a big deal about it. Fine, disagree with the paper, and if you feel you must, then state your reasons why. But, then MOVE on. Why are you letting this get under your skin so much? I go back to two main points: (1) Is there any law preventing you from playing D&D or any other RPG the way you and your friends prefer to play it? NO. (2) Will any of these so-called "SJW's" come to your house and force you to stop playing D&D or any other RPG the way you wish to play it? NO. So, WHAT are you really upset about?
Do you know what mature people do about silly people who have no impact on their lives? They IGNORE them. Try it. Stop reading the blogs, posts, tweets, and academic papers that get you worked up. Just ignore them. Instead of wasting hours, which turn into days, weeks, months, and years of your life complaining and stressing out about "SJW's" just ignore them.
By the way, my understanding is you are a white, middle-class, and college-educated person. So, unless you are buying into the "SJW's" argument that being those three things makes you very "privileged" why are you calling "SJW's" so "very privileged" just because most of them are white, college-educated and middle-class? In other words, you can't have your cake and eat it, too. Either you must think the whole "white privilege" argument is nonsense, or if you think it is true, then you cannot criticize "SJW's" for pointing out privilege and advocating on behalf of the oppressed. So, let it go. Stop worrying about "SJW's" and just play games with your friends and enjoy life.
"Will any of these so-called "SJW's" come to your house and force you to stop playing D&D or any other RPG the way you wish to play it?"
Yes, they will. Not literally, but they will prevent you from playing RPGs the way you want to by preventing RPGs they disagree with from being published. They already tried this with computer games by attempting to force Steam to remove games they didn't like from being sold. They did this in radio by trying to get right wing radio hosts banned from broadcasting.
Obviously you do not understand how leftist operate. They DEMAND you to think their way, believe what they believe, and do what they insist you do or they go after everything about you.
This libertarian attitude of non-confrontation is how we got here.
The next version of the D&D is meant to be played online. You bet they will monitor how you play the game.
You are really over reacting to what is nothing. An academic paper is one of the lowest levels of academic thought. It is just one step above an essay. It is not a study (peer reviewed or not) it is not a text book. It is just one person gathering what they think are thoughts and putting it out there. 99.9% of these papers are filed away on an archive only to be seen when the person tries to get tenure or tries to get grants (and that is not often and in this case it would have likely never been seen again.)
And what if they are right..what would change for you - Nothing.
And if they are wrong what does it change for you - Nothing.
When the people that publish D&D and Pathfinder speak even they say what you choose to do at your table is cool and just have fun. So what those this paper mean in the face of that - Nothing.
This is not the Satanic panic v2.0. All this hate for what amounts to a single persons POV is unamerican and a waste of time.
Woah. Chill out. Just play how you wanna play.
I can't believe I wasted 5 minutes listening to this crap
Woo! #D&DGate! make them regret forcefully forcing us into corners!...in all seriousness though thanks for talking about this stuff!
