He did commit many crimes like burglary and terrorizing the family.
This is actually a really good movie, if you haven’t seen it yet, do watch it (even if you’ve now seen the spoiler) it was a complete twist ending and “you think it’s about this but it’s actually about this” it got me and I’m usually good at predicting ending and plot twists
I'm surprised by how well the plot was structured. The synopsis alone is like half Memento feeling.
The writers did a great job on this one
this movie gave me such a moral dilemma 😭 right when i was rooting for one person i got immense whiplash. makes what jackie did seem like absolutely nothing lmao.

These sorts of movies always have people act in such ridiculous ways. There's no way anyone would hear that a repairman was let into your home by another woman when you know that you, your spouse, and your son are the only three who live there. You would ask the repariman more about it, since it would initially indicate that someone had broken in while you were out. Like, why would you just leave it at that and think it's fine? It's silly.
This is just a really big peeve of mine. They intentionally write these sorts of characters to be morons, and it honestly makes it more unbelievable with their behavior(s).
It sounds like this movie didn’t make up its mind of what it wanted to be. Alec joined with Mindy specifically at this house to torment his abuser? Why didn’t Alec tell Mindy about it? Why didn’t he kill Greg sooner?
The purpose of them phrogging that house in particular was clumsy from the sounds of the recap.
well mindy had experience phrogging and it was alec’s first time doing it. mindy let alec choose the house ,, giving him the opportunity to torment his abuser with an “excuse”. mindy made a point to be cautious since she didn’t want to get into any legal trouble, but alec was adamant about “having fun” (getting revenge). there was one point where he drugged her so she would fall asleep and he could go about the house without her interrupting him. there are also points that project the sense of shame he feels for his violent and uncontrollable behavior. mindy found alec on top of connor trying to kill him and when mindy gave him a disgusted look he asked her not to look at him that way. this led to him pushing her down the stairs and knocking her out,, and his facial expression turned from fright to vile determination (thats when he drags connor to the bathroom). if alec told mindy about his plan, chances are she would find him disturbed and try to call the police on the whole situation (including turning in greg). at one point she talks about how she trusted him,, meaning they have enough history to understand each other in the sense of what they actually display in their outward personality. this is why im comfortable assuming he avoided telling her in order to go through with his plan. she was already hounding him for being too risky, let alone when he was on top of connor. i truly believe the phrogging situation was the best idea to hide the ugly truth before its revealed. whiplash at its finest.
to shorten it
alec chose the house since he was able to take advantage of her phrogging habits to harm his abuser,, but knew she wouldn’t allow him to go thru with his plan.
he most likely didnt tell mindy due to the shame and disgust he feels towards himself and greg.
and there are many potential psychological reasons why he didn’t kill greg sooner.
my theory (which is an opinion, there are no points in the movie to actually prove this) is that he chose to go after greg during this specific period of time since the kidnappings had just started up again. if this IS the case, then hearing the details of the crime likely triggered an episode of psychosis (or a similar impairment) and gave him the motivation to choose gregs house to phrog so he could get revenge.

This movie was so good. I checked out after seeing the movie summer of 84 and I saw one actor from summer of 84 is in this movie. The twist was dope. I totally misjudged Alec

The plot twist tho
This movie is all over the place:
At first it was the house intruders who are da bad guys
Then it turns out it was the dad the whole time justifying all the “pranks”

Because it's a recap and not the actual movie with all the details
It's also like a supernatural horror movie in the first scenes before introducing the phroggers.
the phrogging plot was used to mislead watchers from plot twist at the end. one aspect of the movie that really supports this idea was when:
a pot was dropped on todds head giving him a head injury. when jacki was trying to help todd,, she had to leave to take connor to school. after she leaves you see todd getting his head bashed and he’s killed.
when they start showing the phroggers pov, they include the scene where the pot was dropped on todd’s head, reassuring the expected suspicion it was alec who had done it. when it cuts to the scene where todd gets killed, the writers intended for you to believe alec was the one who had done it. seconds later greg walks out. this was done to introduce the manipulative and vile behavior of greg before exposing the fact that he was the kidnapper/killer.
(i forgot to add that the writers included scenes between todds injury and death where mindy and alec were planning to leave. mindy went to the basement to retrieve their belongings and noticed todd and hid. when todd is hit,, the intention was to make you believe alec came down to help her get their stuff and noticed him there as well. movies that are more predictable tend to use this last minute savior technique so they followed the typical plot used in those situations only to then reveal the plot twist. towards the end after alec killed greg,, they included this technique as well when officer spitzky came in but instead followed through with the predicted outcome)
