  • With his career on the line, Alex returned to the helm after almost two full years as the PhD crew chief, behind the wheel of this Lava Orange 2018 Porsche 911 GT3. The 9000-rpm redline was intoxicating, but the weekend wasn't without struggles.

    There were a couple pucker moments on that hot lap! I found myself going “hunnnnhhhhh” a couple times. As a former MR2 driver, that lift off oversteer can be kind of sketchy, but Alex handle it quite gracefully.

    Alex has been such a boss as a supporting role on the Supra, it's nice to see some time to focus on him in the videos. Actually I love the focus on the whole team as well. Well done everyone.

      It’s part of the transition this year. 2020 was very much the Year of TA90 Supra where we threw everything we had at it, and now the car is working well, we can divert some attention elsewhere, take on more projects, and all drive a little more. The Supra is still a big part of PhD, but it won’t be the ONLY part of PhD from here on!

    oh and when you buy tires, get the Porsche spec ones if you get r-comps. like on the vettes, they're cheater tires and quite a bit wider than the vanilla tires. (cup 2's for example). my friend's carrera had same tire size as my r8, and I swapped tires early and gave him my old tires. (literally same sizes in all aspects). we put them on the car and they looked a lot more skinny. compare them side-to-side off of the car and there was a HUGE difference in width

    Look the fact is NOT all the off track car distractions as the Porsche driver said.
    Nope the fact is he pushed up his courage level and drive tge car hard out of his comfort zone THATS what got him a 1:38.9 Lapse time. Driving race cars is not about settling down into a comfort Zone. It's about upping your skills and reducing previous lapse time. Racing cars motorcycles anything with an engine is ALWAYS done outside of comfort zone in order to keep advancing. This Porsche owner finally figured it out. Now Get better tires for that sweet 911 GT3.

    Good progress throughout the weekend!
    I think you have to play a little more with the suspension setup to give it a little oversteer and you can "dance" through the corners (like a slight drift). This works well for the Porsche, 'cause it has enough grip @ the rear axle unlike any other car, so it's more controllable.

    I found the gt3 to be alot like the s2000, they really like to be driven hard into the corner, get rotated then put the power down to set the rear.

  • @ame7165
    @ame7165 3 роки тому

    the mid and rear engine cars will feel different under hard braking. you can feel some side to side motion that is not confidence inspiring. the front engine cars just squat the front suspension and give you a nice consistent feel. I can say though, that the gt3's that I drove all felt fine, so maybe it's only a mid-engine problem. that or Porsche just knows how to tune their dampers better for it

    Sooo, what's wrong with Orange and red calipers? I'd think the color of the wheels with the orange and calipers would be more of a complaint if anything. I'm not a color fashion fanatic so I wouldn't know, but I could careless. As long as you like it or in this case spec'd...

      Just for this comment, I went to go check the NASA Spec Miata Records. Yes, the record for SM at GIng is 1:39.1, but that's doing the short course (cut out Turn 10b). Running the same Gingerman Long layout, SM's record is a 1:46.8.
