The question I have had since I was a child is, with access to information and libraries, how are Israelis led to believe that Palestine is their homeland?
These days one can move along the information highway. It is far easier to educate oneself.
I think Israeli society is an indictment on all of humanity, as we are eager to feel a sense of superiority in a world so large.
Still, if one was asked to prove the legitimacy of land ownership, the Bible would not suffice as the deed to the land.
@@twistyloxif you ask me, then I’m not sure what you mean by “homeland.” I have a home here based on a purchase agreement, but I don’t believe this is my homeland. I am against the idea of nation states or that nations own lands. For me it’s a nonsense to claim that Italy belongs to Italians or Russia belongs to Russians. So of course Palestine doesn’t belong to any nation too. Anyone has the right to live here. I agree with you that most of Israelis believe in nation state etc, but I don’t share this belief. I think beliefs are inculcated at a very young age and only the brightest of humans come to challenge them later in life. This is almost unrelated to the availability of sources. My sources are Ilan Pappe or Noam Chomsky, but only few people around have heard these names.

Many Israelis believe in the biblical exodus of Jews from Palestine, despite the lack of archaeological evidence. Those same people believe God promised them the land. I won't continue, as I'm sure from your choices of authors and intellectuals, you're well informed.

Excellent interview! As an American Christian, I am horrified by what Israel is doing. I’m equally aghast at the the vast numbers of Americans (mainly the Christians) who unquestioningly support the Israeli actions. I’m speechless with horror. I pray for justice and freedom and truth! The problems of 1948 were not on the part of the Jewish diaspora who moved to what became modern Israel. It was on the part of the major powers (mainly the UK) who simply didn't care about the people of Palestine when they were looking for a homeland for the persecuted Jewish people. They could have made rules about power and land-sharing, but they didn't.
I suspect they thought of the Jewish diaspora as 'white' and the Palestinians as 'non-white', and simple racism did the rest.
Unfortunately this colonial entity will not end. The western world powers are all invested in it. It is not a one state colonialism. This state is the colonial extension of the USA, Canada, Austarlia and most of the european states into the middle east.

How could such medieval practices be used today with such advanced weapons? Why are the US and other western countries supporting Israel to perform these practices? Has the human race learned nothing from history? Has mankind evolved, so little or worse devolved so much? Where has the humanity gone?

What a great speaker and conversation. Any human society can behave like this when its worse elements go unchecked by the majority and world community.
Alon identifies many deep issues, many which deal with the pysche of Jewish-Israeli society. Certainly this is a very interesting albeit dark subject.
The much more important question is "What's next for Palestine?"

I watched the youtube documentary on breaking the silence in Hebron. One of the idf vets walks a young german man around Hebron explaining iof tactics in occupation. Some of the settlers children came out and pestered them mercilessly and were extremely obnoxious to the 2 men.
I thought who raised these children? How could they be that bad? They had to have been taught to act that way.
In this he says each generation is worse and that seems true.
