@@crisssyyy_this had happened to him AT LEAST 3X and she was a mother already. It's safe to say they were in the HABIT of not using protection. Our community has the highest STD rates and abortions. It's obvious basic precautions aren't being used because of some faulty belief systems about sex, relationships and responsibility.

That's not really a RED FLAG. The red flag that you ignored is that she had sex and got pregnant only a few days of knowing a guy. The boyfriend said he wanted her to have an abortion so he told her he wasn't ready to be a father again. She didn't listen. She was more the red flag, not him.

Listening to Derek Smyer's sister interview on Dateline, you can tell that his family most likely took up for him and minimized any wrong doing his whole life. He was arrogant af and thought he could outsmart everyone.

I just watched this on Dateline and had to research more. I was also 5 months pregnant in September of 2001 and lived in Southern California at the time but I was 5 years older than Chrystal . I remember the prior month Aaliyah had died and then 9/11 happened. My husband and I were having so much trouble at the time. We already had 2 kids. That was such a hard year and a hard pregnancy for me so I can only imagine how stressed out Crystal was. I feel so bad for her, her son, her sisters, her unborn baby. So tragic. Sending then all love & peace 🙏🏻
I hate these situations & most definitely praying for all these families but I must say this, your voice is by far 1 of the best to do it!!! It brings a calmness like never before despite the stories. I don't want to take the spotlight away from the missing ppl or ppl losing their lives, I had to give you your props though.

I have to be honest: I was born in and grew up in Chicago. I was pregnant with my first child during the time that Ms. Crystal and her baby were murdered. I don't understand how, being in a large city at the time, and this podcast coming out two months ago, how I am JUST NOW hearing their story over 22 years later (I was brought here by hearing their episode of Dateline from another room) 😔💞💐💞🕊️💞🙏🏾.

@@dyamondcrawford2162 I didn't even think that I would have children. In 1999, I would have been 15. I "gave it up" the following year and in 2001 around Mother's Day ironically, I made my first child.
This is the first time that I heard of this case. And even though I watch Dateline, I still didn’t see it there.

One thing I've said all my life as a woman is, there needs to be a change regarding pregnancy, birth, custody and support. If certain changes were made so many women would escape the clutches of men like this.

. 1. Within the same amount of time that you have to abort a woman should have to lay her claim to who dad is.
2. Once proclamation is made it can go over of ways: a) she wants it and dad doesn't, he signs all rights and it's all on her. b) he wants it and she doesn't. She should have to have it... Dad assumes all cost doctors, care, etc and at birth she signs away rights and it's all on dad. c) they both want it and all care and custody is split. d) neither wants it they split the fees to abort.
2) Custody for dads/mom's should ALWAYS be at least 50/50 unless otherwise agreed.
I lost my niece a few several years ago she was trying to leave her bf. He committed a murder suicide, she was eight months pregnant. Her mom buried her with her baby in her arms. 💔

My life was threatened repeatedly. Had to get several temp restraining orders since he’d never show up for the hearings. He finally showed up after more than two one year and finally got a permanent rto just for one year smh . Order was to stop threatening me , but still have access to our baby. All over keeping my baby and filling child support after 7 years.

Wow, 2001 and I'm just learning about this story in 2024? She would have been 50 years old this year, 50! Why is that important to blk women? Because that is the level of maturity you need to think with, this is a blk man giving you this advice. She was 27, almost 30, making She should have had an abortion, here is why:
1) She got pregnant by a guy so only known for one month, then they broke up. That means they had sex within a few days.
2) You were scared of a man you gave your body to. Sadly, blk women give it to those that deserve it the least, this story was proof.
3) You needed a coworker to send an email to your ex telling him you were pregnant, that is the first sign she wasn't ready to be a mother again.
Sorry to say this but he actually gave her the best advice and she didn't listen. If you barely know the guy, had sex with him after a few days, got pregnant by a guy you didn't know and was scared of his reaction, he told you he had two kids and didn't want this to happen again and asked you to have an abortion, she should have respectfully got it.
