This is the best video you have made for the NSX. At 2:40 lap time and 140mph the car is right at home and in fact they are the same numbers I have at Suzuka where the car is stretched and the driver too. Those large run off areas could make you feel a little safer. You gotta go back again.
I just drove Road Atlanta with Chin a few weekends ago, and was blown away by the number of big bore track specials and full-on race cars in the Intermediate run groups. I mean I know you gotta start somewhere, but some of those closing speeds can be a bit alarming, haha. Hope to catch you out there one of these days!
On the main straight your tach reads almost 6000rpm at say 140mph in 4th gear. I'm at just over 7,000 in 4th at about the same speed so I wonder if the USA cars and Japan NSX has different gearing.
Actual speed was ~135. The speedometer reads a little fast with tire sizes (and tire wear). U.S. and Japanese market cars are geared differently though. 1st and 5th are the same, but 2-4 are each a shorter ratio for Japanese market cars.
@@LapoftheWorld Many thanks for the extra information. Think I'm doing 140mph or a touch more going by the tach as the speedometer is in no mans land. You gotta go back.
This is awesome to see COTA from your perspective while running the track! Glad I could help with the aerial aspect and will keep an eye out for all your future clips! I'll share and tag you on my pages as well! Great work Richard! #lapoftheworld #killinIt!
That would be an experience! Great job on the video! I've heard great things about Chintrackdays, I just missed out on a ride along opportunity with them at NCM when I was in Bowling Green.
Top notch events! Admitted bias because they started as just a group of NSX owners down at Sebring, but I wouldn't be planning more events on their calendar if I didn't have a good time.
Interesting to hear that in person it's a good track. In sims it's one of my least favorites and doesn't seem like it flows very well. I know last time MotoGP was there they were complaining about washbord like sections but it looks like they did some shaving of some of those areas based on your vid. Did you feel any bumpy sections?
The surface felt pretty immaculate to my posterior. Granted someone on a bike or in a single seater might be getting more/different feedback though so ymmv.
RaceChrono Pro phone app to log with and then RaceRender to make the overlay. RCP has been super reliable over the years. IMO easier to use than Harry's and more reliable than TrackAddict (though track addict is still really good and is free).
I really dislike this track. T1 is great, but the esses are just Tilkefied Suzuka esses with less flow. Then you have a long straight in the middle of the track which splits the track into 2 sections and just kinda stop-starts the enjoyment of driving. The rest is just a series of wonky hairpins, apart from the wonderful Istanbul t8.
'Strokes for folks I guess. I haven't driven Suzuka yet to compare and there's no power steering in the old girl so the long straight was a chance to stretch a little 😅
Another awesome video Richard!
Thanks Derek!
We did COTA with Chin last year and had a blast! It’s a beautiful track. Great video!
Thanks for another great video. I went there for the F1 race in 2014 and we had a great time.
I'm hoping our schedule will align with getting to a USGP at some point! It sounds like a great show.
Looks like fun! I was there that weekend with chin and your NSX looked really nice and fast.
Thanks! Fast is relative I guess, but she at least gets out of her own way pretty well still 😅
Well at least you had a good time! Considering you drove from Tennessee even though I came from Michigan😅

Yeah, their top run group at Road Atlanta is just this side of qualifying for Petit LeMans, lol.
Great video! Love all the different angles you throw in. Must challenging with the size COTA
Definitely not a small track. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! I'm jealous it will be a couple of years before I can get that far west.
Something to look forward to. Definitely worth the trip!
Great video. I hope to sample that track, myself, at some point.
I keep expecting that Texas XPO....😁

Thanks guys! Awesome work on your part that made telling the story easy! (apologies this didn't show up earlier, TY flagged it for some reason...)

Which track app are you using there? Looks pretty reliable and consistent. No big issues with signal/GPS loss etc?
