Musically excellent - singers and orchestra. For those that don't like the staging - regard it as a concert presentation. Thanks for the sybtitles.

My favourite Handel opera. There are many versions you can watch on UA-cam with top stars and full staging. Most lack something and some are plain poor. A blind person could easily distinguish between them. As you would expect Marcon has his team under full control and lets the music do the work. The young singers (at the time 'new' to me) are uniformly good - Kirchner excellent. The acting is also nuanced and shows real psychological appreciation and understanding of the text. In short - loved every minute of it. Definitely want to see and hear more of these young talents.

+1 on Alcina being my favorite Handel opera. Difficult to be satisfied by all the leads in most productions. But this one is rather clever and enjoyable throughout.

This is enjoyable. But Alcina always brings up memories of a young Joan Sutherland Venice, 1960...

Постановка больше похожа на концертную, но, главное голоса хорошие и оркестр прекрасный, потрясающая акустика. Еще приятно смотреть на ммолодые симпатичные лица.

Written in England in 1735, Alcina is one of the greatest of the Italian operas of Handel (si dovrebbe usare l’ortografia inglese).

Take a group of talented singers, add some of the most beautiful music in the world and put it in Palladio's stunning theatre. What could possibly go wrong?!
I'm not against modern productions per se, but they have to be done intelligently and with respect for the original opera. This looked like a school 'lets have a go' production.

Glorious music and beautiful singing. Staging this in modern street clothes was the wrong way to stage it. The only expense here were singers and musicians fees and possibly the rent of the theater. No costumes, sets or scenery. These operas need to be staged in their time frame. Anything other than that is a distraction.

The staging, music, and singing is a total experience of opera.

For some reason directors think that staging a baroque opera in modern clothes is a novelty while it is a cliché for several decennia now. It makes the visual experience even les appealing than usual. Best is to forget the staging and just listen to the music.

Music's Ok, but the theater is empty not because of covid or because they wanted it quiet for filming, but because no one would pay to see that production. The set designer doesn't even know what a book looks like.

Singing is very nice but the staging is not to my liking. The Church is beautiful. I do prefer the usual costuming. Of course if it where faithful to the time Ariosto wrote. Of in "Orlando Furioso", they would be dressed as in time of Charlemagne.

This is not the way Handel would have staged Alcina. What a way to ruin a beautiful opera. Handal would been appalled at this production. Why operas have to be modernized, I just don't get it. Sorry to say, but this production puts Handel to shame.

totally agree with you. I'm going to see this in Seattle in Oct and when I bought the tickets I asked the guy if this was going to be modernized and he said he didn't think so. God I hope not. It's so sad because the music is so divine, but to have women in suits and tennis shoes? really? it's ridiculous. It's all part of the woke culture today.

Haendel i jego muzyka nie potrzebują obrony. Po prostu geniusz. I dlatego współczesne interpretacje są takie interesujące. Pytanie: czym takie coś sprzed kilkuset lat może poruszyć, wzruszyć moją 11 letnią wnuczkę? I chwała że oprócz muzyki coś próbują przekazać współczesnego. Pozdr.

Taking Opera out of their context with modern stagings is a total distraction to what’s going on the stage. They loose their beauty.

@@miko9974 But why can't a new generation, your 11 year old just be ok with the original? Do they need tennis shoes and women wearing male suites to appreciate it better? I went to see Mendelssohn's ballet a midsummer nights dream with everything original, it was fantastic and there were plenty of little children there who just loved it. why have the ballet dancers in man suits and modern day shiny shoes and substitute the colorful costumes with boring ones? (By the way I have been to Warsaw and loved it, very hard to believe it has all been rebuilt since the war) I am not opposed to modernizing certain things but you can't improve on the classics, so why do it? You are right in one sense that if it spreads the art to more people, then that's a good thing and maybe after watching the inferior version, they will go back to the original and then really appreciate it.
