- With bells and whistles: To mark the 250th anniversary of the death of George Frideric Handel, Howard Arman conducts a bombastic performance of the "Dettingen Te Deum" at the Marktkirche in Halle in the year 2009. Three choirs join forces accompanied by The English Concert and the Händelfestspielorchester - around 200 musicians perform in the chancel of this magnificent church. The "Dettingen Te Deum" (HWV 283) is a Christian song of praise to celebrate the victory of the English over the French at Dettingen in the year 1743.
00:15 We praise Thee, oh God
04:00 All the earth doth worship Thee
06:25 To Thee all angels cry aloud
08:38 To Thee Cherubim and Seraphim
11:45 The glorious company of the Apostles
14:00 Thou art the King of Glory
16:37 When Thou tookest upon Thee to deliver man
20:00 When Thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death
21:50 Thou sittest at the right hand of God
24:53 Sinfonia
25:23 We therefore pray Thee
26:26 Make them to be number'd with Thy Saints
27:42 Day by day we magnify Thee
30:45 Vouchsafe, oh Lord, to keep us this day without sin
32:22 Oh Lord, in Thee have I trusted
The Dettingen Te Deum is a sacred choral work in the tradition of English choral music. Handel wrote a total of five "Te Deum" compositions - this is the last. It was written to give thanks for the victory of King George II's troops at the Battle of Dettingen. The world premiere took place at St James's Palace in London following the King's glorious return in November 1743. The text - a Christian hymn of praise - is derived from the "Book of Common Prayer" from 1662.
George Frideric Handel was born in 1685 in Halle an der Saale and baptized in the Marktkirche or Market Church. After many successful musical years in Germany and Italy, after 1710 he was a regular visitor to London, where he composed many pieces for the royal court. Awarded citizenship in 1727, he's regarded today as Britain's most important and influential composer of the Baroque period. Until his death in the year 1759, he wrote a total of 42 operas and 25 oratorios.
This performance of the "Dettingen Te Deum" in the Marktkirche in Halle took place as part of celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of the death of the famous Baroque composer George Frideric Handel. The event brought together the MDR Rundfunkchor, the Hallenser Madrigalisten, the Händelfestspielchor and the Halle Opera Chorus. They were accompanied by The English Concert and the Händelfestspielorchester. As well as the "Dettingen Te Deum", the ensembles also repeated the entire program of the "Handel Commemoration Concert", performed in 1784 at London's Westminster Abbey in honor of the great musician, who had died 25 years previously.

Praise GOD! Please ask HIM to get you though this time in the name of HIS son Jesus! HE will! Prayers for your wife in Jesus name!
@@goscott444 thanks Scott
I know that he will
Perhaps praise Handel.
@HomoErectusSum Handel used his talent to glorify Inevitable and endless wars between Theocracies! This "bombastic" performance does the same. MadDogPutin is a Religionist monster WarCriminal, justifying his greed & fear with religion!
Absolutely beautiful. Great choir and orchestra.
Great performance.
I felt lifted up to the high heavens.
God Almighty bless you all.
Thanksgiving 2022. We thank God for having given to us such a great musician. Beautiful.
One of my favourite works of Handel, and a very under-rated piece. This is the one that for centuries was stated to be lifted from a Te Deum by Urio, but now that a recording of the latter is available the resemblance can be seen to be rather slight.
Herzlichen Dank.
Perfect performance
God's name be praise
Love Anything With A CHORUS, GREAT.
Brilliant! I’m certain this is exactly how Handel, the great showman, would have loved to hear his music performed. Not some piss weak 10 voice chorus with a minuscule orchestra.
I love this..we praise thee oh God
Wie immer, deutsche Komponisten die besten.. Dankeschön für dies Stück
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Simply superb. A moving performance.
We Humans lives are short, fleeting , less than 100years.
However,
popularity
and attraction and solemnity of Handel‘s music have and eternal life, and will transcend time and space and ages and gender and races of people and other religions and various wars and give us comfortable, peaceful and tranquil feelings and immeasurable joys and Pleasurable feelings

A Most Wonderful and Thrilling Performance ❤❤❤.
I Am Listening 🎶 At 1:00 a.m. On A Sunday Morning 🌄.
Thank You 😊 🫂 😊 So Much.
I come from this landmark nearby Hörstein
I love the size of the ensemble. Original instrument performances often eschew the overwhelming effect large forces can produce. Keeping the proportions between winds and strings as the ensemble is enlarged is also notable here.
❤
It's hard to get enough musicians together for something like this, let alone enough musicians on the right period instruments, with the right proportions between different groups of instruments... I suspect the difficulty finding enough musicians who play baroque oboe, viola da gamba, and period horns etc., is a large part of why period instrumental groups are usually fairly small.
It's not easy to find four oboists at once. I'd love to know how they managed to find four who play baroque oboes!
@@lizziesmusicmaking The Händelfestspielorchester is a standing orchestra in Halle. Many years ago musicians of the opera started to train on period instruments and 30 years ago the Händelfestspielorchester was founded. So in Halle it is easy to find enough musicians for baroque music.
Electric ⚡ performance!❤
So perfect 🥰
Thank you for sharing ❤️🤍
I hear this music well as well 🎶
With pleasure! 😊
Investing in the art of praises to God in strings, horns, and beautiful voices is ten thousand times ten thousand better than the wicked investments in azov battalions. May God save us from the inept politicians.
Slava Ukraine !
Wonderful piece brilliantly exectuted! Thank you, DW!
We're glad you enjoyed it! 😊

To God be the Glory. And to all the musicians, may your name be written in the book of life.
We always appreciate some quality once in a while.
Beautiful, thank you so much.
Thank you!!!!
If my recollection serves me, this battle was the last time the King of England (actually a German imported to keep the Roman Catholics controlled by Spain off the throne) in person led the English army in battle.
Yes, 1743 !
Apart from the simplistic nonsense in parentheses, you’re quite right about George II.
Nevertheless, if it weren’t for The Catholic Church, there wouldn’t even be a text of a Te Deum Laudamus to set into any language!
Herrliche Musik! Herrliche Darbietung und wunderbares Ambiente von Architektur und Malerei ! ❤️ 🙏❤️

Does anyone remember why this piece is called " Dettingen Tedeum? I do! Greetings from Helsinki!
참 좋습니다(very good)!
Grand, glorious, and divine!!
I’m first heard this piece in a VOX label recording from the early 1950s. Different interpretations have their own merit.

Eindrucksvoll!

An awful lot of D Major.
Not sure it’s fair to judge 18th century music by the norms of later periods - it’s like criticising a steam engine for not being like a high-speed train of today; in both cases, they have their own particular charms.
My favourite composer
Ziemlich langweilige Interpretation.
?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Magistral.
