UPDATE ‼On 10th January I got the email to say that I have beeb added to the Foreign Births Register and so can apply for my passport! The process took just under 10 months!!
I sent mine off last November and got my confirmation of receipt on 12th Dec. They are now quoting 9 months on the site so I’m hoping for either late August or early September for my notification. I cannot wait. My late Nana would have been so proud.

I had no idea. This is stunning. I’ve been following our Disney British Clairy from my (American) home and coincidentally I have been collecting my documents for my Irish citizenship, my grandfather having been born there. Looks like a fun party! I had no idea the process was so long. I hope it all goes quickly! I am 50% Irish ☘️ but unfortunately my family has been in the US for a long time so I wouldn’t qualify. We are hoping to visit Ireland soon though!
Thank you Tracy! I actually got an email yesterday saying they have received my application! Aw amazing wow 50%! I hope you do get to go soon! You're already back in Europe??
If you were 50% Irish it would mean one of your biological parents was an Irish citizen when you were born. So you would qualify. If your first grandparent was Irish you'd be less than a quarter Irish and STILL qualify through foreign births registry. After that, you do not qualify and you only have Irish heritage/DNA, certainly not "half Irish".
Can I ask: do you have to provide all your lineage ? My grandad was born in Tullylish/Gilford in the north so was born on the island of Ireland. I’m aware you require birth, marriage and death certificates and I’m aware there is genealogical firms who can trace your history. What I’m asking therefore is there a format to follow anywhere ? I haven’t watched the whole video yet, but my grandfather was born in Waterford, Ireland. I am seriously considering pursuing getting Irish citizenship by descent. My daughter wants to do this as well, and I’m thinking it’s a great way to pass on a part of our family heritage.
Our daughter has lived just outside Dublin for 15 years married and had two of our four grandchildren there. She is looking into getting an Irish passport but it’s not a cheap process applying there. Tayto cheese & onion crisps are the best. Your mum puts on a a great spread. I enjoyed two pints of Guinness at Raglan Road’s Hole in the Wall when we arrived in Orlando a week ago. Not quite celebrating St Patrick’s Day. Lol Is the passport application for easier travel around Europe as in our daughter’s case?
Very useful information! .. I have all the documents but didnt realise I'd need my grandads Death certificate since he would be 108 years old if he was still alive!! Im guessing this is needed?
Hello Claire, I have just received my foreign birth certificate and am beginning the process of applying for my first Irish passport. When it says "Applicant's passport from country of origin/previous nationality" as one of the required documents can I send them one of my older expired US passports or does it have to be one in date? It would be much more convenient for me to be able to keep my current passport as I have to travel soon and I will need my passport for that.
What a neat thing that you can do in the UK. It was so interesting in learning about this process. So did your dad’s mom eventually move to England and your dad was born in England? Can your brother do this for himself and his kids as well? We have a store here that is called the British Emporium where we get British foods. They have foods from all over the UK but after seeing some of the foods in the Irish store you went to I see we have Irish options as well at our store. Hey I've applied for mine a month ago. Just wondering did they contact you with receipt of receiving the documents? And when do they return them? Thanks!
Hi, no I didn't but I sent them recorded delivery so I was alerted by Royal Mail that they had received my documents. There is somewhere on the website that you can put your application number in and see where they are up to in processing it
Me too, sent recorded delivery but had no confirmation they received their end. Really? I cant find anything on the website to search application process status??? @@aclaireytale
Ah great news! You can track when you’ve sent off for the passport but not where they are up to on the foreign birth registration unfortunately! We just have to wait haha
Did you have someone look over the documents before you sent them off? Is it more helpful to send both Irish grandparent's documents or will that make it more problematic?
Do check the irish gov website it tells you everything you need to know but yes I got someone in the profession list they give you to sign and check over it all.
I was born in sligo Ireland but now live in uk what do I need to get Irish passport I received my brp permit in last year im not had my nationalisation because it like £1.500

Problem is that they are actually working and not taking calls from the passport office. Am going to have to give up trying, very sadly
I am also applying through my Grandmother. I have all her certificates but my father passed away many years ago so I don't have any current documents for him ie Passport. I do however, have his
birth certificate and marriage certificate. Do I need his death certificate?
Please do check with official guidance but I believe you will need the death certificate yes just as we needed it for my Nana.
I'm surprised you just stamped it and posted it, I'd have sent it international tracked and/or signed for
No I got it tracked and signed for! I just posted it myself
@@aclaireytale you paid for Royal Mail Tracked and Signed For, and they let you take it to the post box? I used to be a PO Clerk, and I know that's against protocol.
I definitely got it tracked I actually still have the receipt somewhere if you want me to show you!
Oh I just checked that picture it’s not stamped haha I just posed in front of the post box with it before we went to the post office!!! Haha thanks for checking up though :)
So do you have to send off the original birth, marriage and death certificates or can it be copies verified by your witness?
They have to be certified copies of everything :)
hey , if my grandparent is irish , but my parent was born outside ireland, do i need to register my parent on FBR before i can apply for FBR myself... many thanks 🍀
No. Your mother or father is already an Irish citizen
That's right you will need to apply like I did
oh god 2 years for the foreign birth registration????!!! what do i do in the meantime when i need my documents?
I know, it is a long wait!! Well they're all certified copies that you send or photocopies like I say in the video - you don't send the original anything.
The time is down to nine months now, according to the fda’s website
Did you apply for forgain birth certificate online ?
Yes you do, I've put the link in the description
I definitely heard you say it took 18 months for your mum. Why? Currently it's 9 months and 1 year ago it was 7. Why so long for your mum?
Covid :)
My mother was irish, how does that work? Will i be registered as foreign birth?
Only you can answer this unfortunately! I only showed what I had to do as my Nana who is Irish
There not proper tayto though!! You need to come get one. I’m Irish. Born and living in dublin. Literally sitting here having a Fanta Lemon!!
Haha how come? I got them from an Irish import shop so I was hoping they were the same? Thank you so much for watching!
Now It could be just the packaging!! But I always thought these ones that pop up in different countries arent the proper tayto!! I’m going to send you a picture on Instagram!!
Oh ok!! We don't get them in England so I was hoping they were the same especially when I got them from the Irish import shop. They definitely tasted the same! I'm going to Dublin this year so will try them again then haha

Vlog is pre record its April why this happened
They are all pre-recorded :) the cruise currently going up is Sept 2022 and this was March 2023. Thank you for watching!
Why did you have to go through grandparents your dad is an Irish citizen?
You have to be born in Ireland, my grandmother was but my dad wasn’t. My dad’s not a resident of Ireland either. You have to be living there for 2 years to sponsor if you’re not born there.
