  • Leaving Ulaanbaatar, I travel off-grid to the Mongolian Steppe. Beginning my journey around the wilderness, I start by visiting the White Stupa and Yol Valley, finishing the video in the southern Gobi Desert (Монгол).

    I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and UA-camr who's been to 61 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017.
    I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This marked the start of my efforts to turn vlogging into a full-time job.
    After that European trip I explored much of Asia: visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan.
    I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.
    I've travelled to North America just once as a UA-camr, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.
    In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting Kenya and Tanzania, before heading to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai and Lebanon. Europe followed, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, and afterwards going back to Italy for the second time to cover Milan and Sicily. I then visited the Caribbean for the first time, covering the Dominican Republic, before heading to both Brussels and Amsterdam, then covering Taiwan and the Philippines in Asia. I finished off the year with a trip around Morocco.
    I started my travels in 2023 by finally visiting Paris, taking the Eurostar from London. I then headed over to Qatar for a few days, before heading to Asia, with videos following from India, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan and Mongolia.

      Totally ignorant about Mongolia up to now so thanks for that. We were amazed at how much the landscape resembles outback Australia only quite a bit colder. The really, really, flat bits are our specially.

    What a beautiful experience. I appreciate you respecting their space and home. The scenery is so vast and deceptively empty until you know what to look for. The camels make you think of Marco Polo exploring.
    Being spoiled by the richness and bounty of North America, you ignorantly don’t realize how blessed we are to have ample water, indoor plumbing. We also do not have the resiliency to live as these people do, nor have we adhered to customs which so enrich cultures. Wind swept beauty leaves one in awe of this place. Thank you for reminding me to count my blessings while respecting that they also count their own.

    The beautiful thing about gurs/yurts is they are free standing bc of the round design with the roof rafters meeting at a center roof ring. That rock was probably holding the roof ring down for some other reasons. I have one (that I made myself from scratch) that I've had the joy of living in for two weeks out of every year for the last 18 years. It's never wobbled or failed me in winds or rain. It's one of my most favorite experiences ever, every year.

    Good stuff Jason, looks like pretty simple living conditions as to be expected but love those wide open, unpopulated landscapes. Definitely a unique place, I'm even more intrigued to visit. Water looks ridiculously scarce. Did you get the chance to take a single shower on the trip? Maybe I'll find out in the other videos.

    Well done Jason. So, i picked up Marco Polo's Travels after watching your last video. Only just working through the introduction at the moment - stunned at the history. How our world is so small compared to those long off times. To think that when Marco Polo's father returned from his adventures his wife had died! Unthinkable in these days... I love it. Great series, and quite mesmerising to see the wide open space of Gobi, looking forward to the next ones! Silly question: how dark does it get inside the ger at night? I mean, does some of the light of the starry sky filter through at all? I have a bit of a phobia of sleeping in the pitch black, so that kinda puts me off, much more than other inconveniences... oh well, I guess I'll just have to get over it anyway coz I REALLY want to go!!!😅

    • @JasonBillamTravel
      @JasonBillamTravel  11 місяців тому +2

      Honestly, it gets pretty dark. Though I don’t think it was ever absolutely pitch black. Some moonlight tends to filter through the top of the Ger. If you head outside for the toilet you’ll need to use a torch. Some of the camps we stayed at had a plug, so if you’re charging something overnight like a powerbank, that can offer you a bit of light.

    • @JasonBillamTravel
      @JasonBillamTravel  11 місяців тому

      That’s tough. It’s very meat heavy (mutton and beef) and there’s no shortage of milk drinking each day (horse, yak, you name it). It might be doable if you stock up on your own food from the hypermarket in Ulaanbaatar before the trip starts. You can also contact Sunpath directly and they might be able to accommodate you.

    • @iinarrab19
      @iinarrab19 11 місяців тому

      As Jason said, you can communicate to Sunpath about your dietary needs. I think they can accommodate that. It is going to be tough, you might feel out of place, and will not be able to fully have the Mongolian nomadic experience but if you're cool with that, then you are good to go.

    • @hoolidii
      @hoolidii 11 місяців тому

      yeah as the iinarrab19 says I think you can accommodate that. I have watched another person's video. And she went with her family (including a toddler and an infant). They were all vegan. And their reserved tour guide ppl (idk what to call) actually got some food for the whole travel. But they went to the north part of Mongolia, so it would have more veggies.
      They had a portable shower and toilet. But if u want to feel the real nomad experience just go to the river. (But don't go into it) And u can actually ask for more water if there is this sinkish thing but out of water. It's actually just for not to waste the water. They will totally refill it if u ask.
      Plus i don't recommend the Purgon car (The russian van) and it will make ur butt soar. Rent a car or just go with modern car. As a mongolian i guarantee that ur butt will get hurt.
