I'm gonna start with the stat even though my uncle said start with the sensor😂 Yea, I ask for advice then don't take it🤦♀️ Thanks for this video, it's gonna get me through it.
Thanks for sharing this. I'm about to change the thermostat on my 2006 impala LT. Has 178,000 miles on it and never changed. Still running great after all these years though. Thanks again 👍
I have done a couple of thermostats but i learn 3 new things watching this video. The bleeder valve being up, the arrow towards the radiator n the papertowel trick... 😊 thanks!
FIXED..........I flushed the system thoroughly, and refilled with proper amt of water/Coolant and heater works great now...........btw, my system was low on coolant/water initially!
1st)really good video. Easy to follow with you and liked the little extra tid bits. Stuff always ends up being what stalls my jobs. Figuring out best way to get something off, lol stuff like that. Question-I'm having to do my stat, no heat and such. My temp gauge isn't moving up or down at all. Weather has been fairly mild lately but would think I would see some changing even if it locks open or whatever, right? Also am getting an odd noise as I speed up, 99% positive its not going with the rpms though because I can hear the engine separately from it revving up. Sounds like a vacuum maybe or like a plane motor winding up(not that loud tho). only other thing I really noticed is that my upper radiator hose(pretty sure that's the name, the one right on top above where the stat is) is getting collapsed(sucking together like ya just grab it and squeeze it flat ya know?). I'm wondering if you'd be able to tell me if that's going along with my stat issue or, my Dad thinks maybe could be a bearing in a pulley there to. If you(or anyone lol) is familiar with that or thinks they may know whats up at all, would really appreciate if you could let me know what you think. Obviously a tough thing to diagnose like this but even some ideas to narrow my search would be helpful. On a wicked tight budget at the moment lol. Thanks again
NEtwinkiesfan77 icheck fluid levels first! gauge is at cold and not moving thermostat is stuck open!! Check temp sensor pigtail for any frayed wires if it’s ok change water pump!! Also if you are having to add fluid but can’t find the leak it’s because it’s leaking at the wheep hole while driving! Roaring noise sounds like a bad water pump with the collapse hose makes sense,, also check wheel hubs put on jack turn by hand give it a shake if catching change them
Thanks a million for this video! I’m pretty mechanically savvy but I’m doing this job today and wanted to know what I’m in for, I’m working on a 3900 but it should be pretty similar
Just did this for my 09 Impala. Thanks for the video. I went and practiced at the upull and pay first. But did mine with no problems or complications not bad for a non mechanically inclined dude.
This fixed my car right up. Only difficulty I had was getting the hoses off at first cause they'd settled for so long. Tried changing the coolant temperature sensor but that didn't work. Which is a shame cause that was much faster
If this car was running hot saying reduced engine and AC off you would need to fix the water pump that allows the coolant to flow through the car it flows thru the AC as well
Great video, my engine goes to normal and when I am driving I have good heat as soon as I idle at say a red light the heater blows cool again.. Do you think its thermostat, I changed actuator in glove box area last year. Thank You
I think you have an air pocket in the cooling system or you’re a bit low on coolant. Check it in the morning before starting the car. Top it off and I’ll bet you’ll notice a difference.
i was doing the water pump on my 3.5l and i was dreading doing the thermostat because the 3.1 and 3.4L you had to remove the throttle body. i am so glade its not there LOL after all that now i get to do the AC compressor
Is it the thermostat in my 2010 Chevy Malibu ,Vin (B), that's causing the temp to rise to 3/4 on on gauge almost over heat then Fans kick on and or i turn on AC and it drops rite away ?

Thanks for the video, helped me when I changed it two days ago. I really liked the close ups.
Excellent phone/camera work. Very informative
That stud/Bolt is normally made like that for affixing a wiring harness adaptor or affixing a tab to stablize medal lines ! > Good Job !

Thanks for this, my air started blowing cool on both sides and kept ending up on actuator videos, and I know that's not the issue.
Did you fix the issue?
Could be heater core

take the hose off the housing first. will be much easier to get the old one out and the new one in and gasket.
Do you know anything about the hot engine AC off
If this car was running hot saying reduced engine and AC off you would need to fix the water pump that allows the coolant to flow through the car it flows thru the AC as well

Mines doing the same. Did you figure it out?
I bled my cooling system and coolant is topped up... If I Rev it up at idle, it blows extremely hot air
@@splash5974 It's your thermostat. It's not closing. Change it.

Unfortunately I changed thermostat and water pump, it was neither...
It's a message that comes across the dash when you start it up or when you turn the key forward
Does the air need to be bled out of the system once this is done ?
So immune doesn’t blow hot air, but also my coolant fans don’t turn on unless ac is on or disconnected. Will this be the cause problem or no

Mine was doing that as well and my fan kept coming on, but now the problem is fixed... you should be fine afterwards
Hard to tell sometimes, are you going under the car at all or doing everything from up top?
Everything is done from the top.
Thank you!!
Thermostat housing on the Lower/ Upper radiator hose?
I wonder do they have a 160 degrees thermostat for the 3.5L impala?
Hey my car is overheating what can be the problem I put antifreeze in an I look under my car an I can see it’s just coming out any help
It’s possible your water pump is leaking.
How much coolant should you put back in?
Until it's full under fill cap
Approximately 12.3 qts (a little more than 3 gallons) for complete fill.
Would this work for an 2006-07 Chevy Monte Carlo?
If it also has the 3.5 or 3.9 V6, then yes.
Did anybody have a problem removing the two bolts did any break off for anybody?
Have message, Engine Hot / AC Off.
I replaced the coolant temp sensor.
2 days later the message came back. Both fans work.
Think it could be the stat?
Yes. Replace the thermostat and see if that clears it up.
@B_rad did that fix your problem? Having same issue now

No gasket or rtv is needed for the thermostat housing?
Nope. That black rubber O ring IS the gasket.
Santer Auto Repair LLC Thank you for the reply! Going to tackle that and the coolant temp sensor 👍🏻
Love it!
My car is doing the same thing but it says engine hot ac off and to let idle
Don’t know how this fixed it but it did
How long does a normal thermostat last for? Also is there anything different for the 3900 series engine? Mine is a 2008
Same setup
The original thermostat failed in mine at 190K. I'd say it had a good run. The seal failed open on mine, so the engine couldnt get up to temperature.
What if it leaks after installed?

if you have no heat, its the actuator motors.
Not necessarily. Engine coolant below 150 degrees won’t generate heat out the vents.
